If you'd seen the band when I seen them you'd understand

Man, this argument is getting old. Perhaps there should be a 87-93 subforum where you could comment on those performances only. Everyone has seen what they're capable of during that period of time. I'd go further and say most of us are here, because of that. It's 2018, people change, drives change, voices change and attitudes change.

Thanks for the review.  That's really interesting what you say about Greta Van Fleet and it got me thinking (sorry, veering slightly off topic here).  I've only just discovered this band (thanks @MillionsOfSpiders). As talented as these guys are, I kinda hope it's not a 'passing of the torch' as I don't think GVF are worthy of taking up Guns' mantle.

Guns were original.  There was no other band that sounded, or looked like them, and there hasn't been another band since.  Obviously, they were influenced by other bands, as we know, but they incorporated those influences seamlessly into their own sound.  Originality was a big part of Guns' appeal.

This Greta Van Fleet?  They aren't original.  The singer sounds exactly like Robert Plant.  They sound exactly like Led Zeppelin (who I'm a big fan of).  They look exactly like they just stepped out of a 70s magazine.  Even their album cover is straight out of the 70s.  I would hope that if Guns was going to 'pass the torch' it would be to another unique, pioneering band like themselves when they were young.

It's so sad that Guns isn't what it used to be.  I get that people age and change - it's not that.  It's not even their merch flogging greed.  It's just that the passion for their own music doesn't seem to be there anymore.  Certainly not the passion to create anything new.  If only they'd show the slightest inclination to flog new music to us, maybe people would be a bit more forgiving of Axl's voice, or at least there'd be less disappointment and frustration in a thread like this. :shrugs:

I understand what you're saying regarding their sound, even though I strongly disagree.

To me, there's so much more than Led Zeppelin in their sound; some parts are even Guns reminiscent. It's cool that you have discovered them as they are going to release their first album by the end of the summer, so the expectation is high in regards to what they can do with their abilities. Give them a chance!

  3. No one mentioned Greta Van Fleet's performance but they put on a tremendous show!

For real, you could see a lot of people dancing to their set. I stroke a conversation with some people that were around me (Golden Circle) and they were all amazed at how talented these guys are. Surely one of the most exciting new bands, at the moment. There's a 15min video of their performance on Youtube - definitely worth checking out.

In a way, it felt like GN'R was passing the torch and kinda reminded me of what happened in the '88 tour with Aerosmith.

I've said it before, but now that I got home, I can elaborate a bit more. The show was a blast. I had read here that Guns were supposed to start at 7pm, so by 7:15 no sight of the band, which led me to think that old habits were coming back to life. Thankfully, that wasn't the case and shortly after, ISE kicked in. From where I was standing, I couldn't really notice any sound difficulties; Axl mentioned them but amidst all the fun, they were almost imperceptible. I felt the band was, at times, a bit disconnected between themselves, which may be completely normal as the touring routines are just restarting and everyone is slightly more rusty after coming back from holidays, right?

Slither was obviously an excellent surprise although I'm sure very few people recognized it, however, the same could be said for almost every song except SCOM, WTTJ and NR

Only when the last notes of Paradise City were played did I notice that we had no YCBM or Coma. Funnily enough, once I thought about it, I didn't really mind not having them on the set. It was a breath of fresh air.

All in all, this review doesn't focus itself on every member of the band, because that's not really my focus when I'm at the show (nor am I a sports journalist, giving individual ratings); it's the experience that matters and that is something Guns N' Roses are still perfectly capable of delivering, in high standards. Looking forward to spend an evening with the fellas again, in Madrid.

    Go see 'em!

  4. I was there, the show rocked and had a blast!

Slither was such a pleasant surprise. Didn't even notice these technical difficulties. Wichita Lineman should have gotten the same treatment as the boring Black Hole Sun and be left in 2017.

The set length is perfect, if only they can give it some rotation (GN'R songs preferably).

  5. Yesterdays is a great clip, but incredibly sad at the same time.

It has always felt weird to me that they used relatively recent footage (AFD had only been out for 5 years), to illustrate this idea of long gone memories from a long established band - when, incredibly enough, it was just the opposite; their evolution in so little time made yesterday really seem like a distant memory, compared to the bright future ahead...

That, along with the desire, hunger and talent they had at the time, makes you wonder what could've been.

I know it's a contentious opinion, but I think Duff and Slash got him to play the song like that, why!!? He played it far groovier in that 2012 Philadelphia clip... I doubt he just decided to throw out how he was playing the song for the past 10 years out of nowhere by himself.

Not an opinion. Indeed, you gotta thank Slash for the extended RQ version we have now.

agreed. appetite era was in desperate need to receive more love, and this is it. the 180 dollar boxset is everything I could have asked. of course there's haters, there's always haters, but I don't care. It's my most anticipated box set of my favorite band. I'm going to enjoy every second of it. even the album remaster has my interest, if the quality is the same of the stunning SOYL reworking.

I was prepared to spend 650, will end up spending 180 and have most of the contents of the 1000 box anyway. all you gotta do, is pretend the 1000$ set does not exist, and you're good.

Without a doubt! Can't wait to put my hands on it.

As far as the LN'L goes, when I was a teen, missing on such memorabilia would be total sacrilege. Nowadays not so much, so I can live well with its existence.
