I just read an interview with Adler where he confirmed it's a box set, but no details as far as what exactly it'll be, though.
-
Here's another question: why does it seem like they're advertising/promoting whatever this is in every country except America? Lol
-
So, the general consensus is that this is just going to be a box set or something, right?
I mean...is there a need to be so cryptic and do a countdown if that's all this is?

Hey guys, I'm going Monday and have a couple questions. What time did they hit the stage and when did they get off? Any opener? Thanks
Came on at 7:45, fished a little after 11

I was at the show last night. What a great night! Guns was tight. All was really good. I'm starting to wonder if the current political climate is the reason why Madagascar was brought back since it does have the "I Have a Dream" speech.
I do think the Witcha cover tune needs to go. For me, it kinda brought the atmosphere down a notch. I would like to see Free Ballin or a GNR tune instead.
Patience was good. I really liked how Pink came out and did the outdo. It seemed as spur of the moment and it was something different.
The only thing negative was as usual NJ Transit. It's the second largest transportation system and they don't have an hourly or half hour schedule from NJ to NYC and vice versa.
Agreed completely. I totally forgot about the Lineman cover. THAT brought the crowd down way more than TIL or any other CD song. And yes, fuck NJ Transit. What a total disaster that they didn't have more trains going out of the City knowing there was a huge concert going on.

It's interesting with the CD stuff. I'll take your word that they really kill the mood across the whole place and you're certainly not the first to say it.
It shows you what a different audience this is from especially the 2006-10 shows because I went to a whole bunch and whilst obviously the CD stuff didn't get the pop e.g. Sweet Child would they were only piss breaks for a relatively small chunk of the audience and you can hear on the 2010 bootlegs from everywhere the pop TIL would get after the first chorus and at the end. The super raspy, mega impressive vocals helped but still. That era's audience were people who'd bought Chinese and were seeing their 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc New Guns show.
I'm guessing there are a vast majority of people at the current shows who haven't even heard the record or maybe gave up after a few goes.
That's definitely the case. And to be fair, this IS marketed as a reunion tour, which is going to bring in a larger group of older fans who haven't listened to the band since '92. So, when you have a reunion tour and the band is playing songs that two-thirds of them had nothing to do with, it's hard for people to find a reason to care who haven't followed the band since the split.

The show was absolutely phenomenal, blew last year at Met Life completely out of the water. I was skeptical given how on and off Axl's voice is lately, but holy shit was he on last night. They all were. Axl, in particular, seemed to be way more interactive with the crowd and looked like he was genuinely having fun. He even came out during the encore and said Duff just told a funny joke backstage he wanted to share with us in the spirit of Halloween: every time you yawn, a ghost sticks his dick in your mouth. LOL
My only complaint is the CD songs. The fans just are not feeling them. TIL noticeably brought the vibe down big time and, despite me being psyched for Madagascar, few people really got into it.
I had to leave halfway through Patience because I had work in the morning and after the 11:06 train, there was no train back to Jersey until 1:22 a.m. NJ Transit is the worst. Overall, this was by far the best and most fun GNR show I've ever been to. If you have any doubts about seeing them on this tour because of what you're seeing and hearing in YouTube videos, don't. It was an awesome show in an awesome environment. I'd go back again to see them tonight if I didn't have to work late.

Fuck...so they're really gonna go on at 7:30 sharp??

Still no official word on who's opening? Trying to decide what time to get there.

Steven burned his bridges after airing all the dirty laundry after his last appearance on the tour, unfortunately, otherwise I'm almost positive he would've been there last night. Izzy, I never expected. The fact that Axl didn't even once reference the 30th anniversary of Appetite last night was very disappointing, but also very telling as far as where he sees the band is right now. I, of course, held out hope that at midnight they would have done something special, but it was just the same old business as usual.

Blackhole Sun was a really cool surprise. I'd love it if they kept it as a regular and got rid of one of the other tribute songs in the regular setlist instead. Axl killed it. I actually didn't expect them to cover any of Chris's stuff and only thought Axl would just make a brief mention of him at some point throughout the show and that would be it. But, again, that was a really cool surprise. It'd also be really cool if they ever did a cover of "Promise" from Slash's album with Axl on vocals.

Was never a big fan of DJ, but I didn't hate the guy. I can't hate him because he was into pushing his solo projects because, let's face it, it's not like Axl was actually going to ever release anything with the previous lineup or have them be anything more than a cover band playing material they had nothing to do with. The main thing I took from this is just how checked out Axl really is from the band. How the fuck you schedule a rehearsal with a guitarist, don't show up to see him rehearse, yet somehow he gets hired speaks volumes about this band.

Axl doesn't want the band to take credit? just because he's not "all over" it doesn't mean he doesn't think it has a chance to be critically acclaimed or at least that this line up can deliver.
You guys are way off imo. I assume Axl is busy right now making money with Slash and Duff and doesn't need Izzy and Steven to tour. He might also believe that he can do a Guns album without them.
But who said Axl only cares about one thing? Guns are clearly the main priority, but there are other things to consider and you can't do it all at once. Can't tour and make another Guns album if you're Axl, can't say no to Angus, so it seems the time is now to tour while there is still crazy demand, then go do something else, it could be Guns, taking a break, or doing other projects and only then working on a new album.
They're on touring mode cause it makes sense financially and also is a good thing for the band itself as they go through this long tour together. Doesn't mean Axl has lost interest or doesn't believe they can deliver another Guns album. It could just be Axl might feel it's not the right time right now to go into the studio. It's a money machine until this tour is over. Backwards for now, forward looking maybe when they're less busy making a killing.
This idea that they're just touring now and will go into the studio to record after the tour is over is a pipedream. How long have we been hanging onto this hope over the years as the band's lineup has undergone change after change because guys get sick of just playing old stuff over and over again? The touring isn't going to end. When they've gone on hiatus in the past, there's been absolutely zero movement on Axl's part to record anything new. I have no reason to believe anything has changed.

You had me till this part.
If Axl thought for one second he could release a critically acclaimed album with Slash and Duff he'd be all over it like a cheap suit
I disagree. Axl wants GNR to be his vision or nothing at all. He's proven time and time and time again that he would rather watch the band flame out under his own terms than see Guns succeed as a unit. He has absolutely no reason to release any new music; he's proven for the past decade that he would rather tour and collect millions, and now he's making even more money off this reunion tour than he was with the previous lineup. He has no reason to release anything new at this point.
-
I say this with all sincerity: I would be absolutely fine with ANY direction at this point, simply because it would mean new music.

None of this really surprises me. We already knew that these guys aren't a real band anymore. Axl doesn't hang out with any of them, doesn't rehearse, has his own dressing room and wants nothing to do with anyone in the band aside from the 2 1/2 hours they're on stage together. This is all 100% about money and always was, and it has been clear from the very beginning that this reunion was being done entirely on Axl's terms. That's not to say Duff and Slash aren't in this strictly for the cash, either, because they are. Why else would they have come back and agreed to do a bunch of CD songs every night that they had nothing to do with? I never believed Axl for a second when he said Duff and Slash approached him about wanting to play tracks from CD. It seems obvious that the setlist they play every show was agreed to beforehand and Axl decided he'd bring back Coma and Jive as a half-assed way to make it look like a compromise in exchange for playing songs off CD every night.
It is what it is at this point, and I accepted this reunion for what it was a long time ago. There isn't going to ever be a new album because Axl has zero interest in releasing anything new with anybody. If he releases CD 2 and it bombs (and it would), he looks like a fool. If he releases a straight new album of new material with Duff and Slash and it kills (and it would), everyone will want to give credit to the entire band, which Axl doesn't want. So, the easiest solution is to do nothing except tour and continue to rake in tons of money.

I cannot fucking believe Adler appeared. I really thought it was just a pipe dream, but that was truly awesome. I'm glad for him. It had to be such an amazing feeling. It was really cool seeing Axl have a big smile on his face too after he introduced Steven and the crowd went nuts!

Really disappointed that they didn't make any real changes to the setlist for the second Chicago show. I'm hoping they add more UYI songs as the tour goes on, but it seems like this is going to be the standard setlist they roll with I guess.
-
Pretty standard setlist, but I never expected any big surprises in the first show of the tour. I'm interested to hear how Axl sounded on Coma since this was his first time singing it out of his chair. I'm really, really glad that it looks like Coma is going to be a permanent inclusion in the setlist going forward.

First of all, not everyone's been speculating this. Some have indeed been saying that Axl's prioritizing AC/DC over GN'R, and that's not surprising considering there're a lot of emotion invested in wanting the reunited lineup succeed. But, the only way in which could it could be validated that Axl priorities AC/DC over GN'R were if he were a full-time band member and then forced to choose between both bands for projects or tours or other band priorities. For now, he's only a guest vocalist. Everything else we indulge in is speculation.
As far as this interview is concerned, GN'R and Axl's influences still occupied the majority of airtime as well as questions. AC/DC came up of course, because he actually is in London to do an AC/DC show. He is working with them right now, on a daily basis. It's a no-brainer that his bandmates and performances on the tour that he is currently in, come up. Further, he made it very clear in this interview that his motivation to sing in AC/DC were from wanting to help the band. It was of course an opportunity for him too, but it as equally a great risk. If he fell flat trying to sing AC/DC he clearly would have had a lot of bad publicity to deal with. So, it's no wonder that he went back to a vocal coach that he trusted. There would have been some merit to saying that Axl took extra effort to sing better for AC/DC, while not trying to do so for GN'R if it was apparent that this is the first time that he used a vocal coach. But that's not the case. He's used vocal coaches before on GN'R tours too - with NuGuns. As some have already noted, it's clear that Axl has tried a different 'cleaner' approach with Gn'R that hasn't been very popular but that's not because he's out to sabotage his own singing. He's singing with rasp for AC/DC because his clean vocals just wouldn't cut it, at all.
As you did say though, the content of what Axl talks about is going to change once he's back on NITL. Don't be surprised if he still gets AC/DC questions though because AXL/DC is going to follow NITL in the US.
Axl has been doing this long enough that he should've been the first one to realize his vocal performances in recent years haven't been nearly up to par. So, knowing that, why wouldn't he have tried to improve his voice by working with another vocal coach two years ago? He just seems to have much more emotion and every on stage, too, that he hasn't shown in years. And the fact that he's already said he's willing to stay in AC/DC for as long as they'll have him proves that this isn't just a one-off for him.
-
Also, I wouldn't read too much into him playing some of his own stuff for Duff and Slash to listen to as Axl's way of telling them "if we're going to do any new music, it has to be my way." It honestly may just be a starting point where they were shooting the shit and he decided to play some stuff to get the ball rolling. I'm sure Slash and Duff are both walking on eggshells and weren't even going to broach the subject of recording new music unless Axl brought it up, so the fact that he took the initiative is a good sign.
And, yes, this interview basically confirmed what we've all been speculating for a while now: Axl's number one priority is AC/DC. The fact that he went back to his old vocal coach and went out of his way several times to bring up Angus' name in this interview makes it seem like he's putting all his efforts into the band right now. Then again, that'll probably change once the actual Guns tour starts this month.
-
Really cool to see Axl answering a whole variety of questions. The stuff he said about conversing with Slash for the first time in 19 years and how they're all getting along and collaborating on music were probably the most interesting tidbits.
PS - I really hope they don't stop playing Coma now that he's out of his chair. The answer he gave regarding bringing Coma back to the setlist makes me worried that he only did it because he wanted to throw the fans a bone for him being in a chair the whole show and not being able to be more energetic on stage.

I cannot fucking believe how good he sounds!! I don't know what the hell happened that enabled him to get his voice back, but he sounds just as good as ever. Did a year off from touring really impact him that much? Is it possible he truly was just mailing it in and not even trying to sing with any real rasp the last few years GNR was touring, and now that he actually cares, he's trying to sing again? I'm truly amazed, just blown away. It's like he found the fountain of youth or something.

I really, really, really wanna hear what TWAT would sound like with Slash playing guitar. If any Nu Guns song is a perfect fit for him, it's definitely TWAT.

I think it's cool they're doing something special for AFD, but the fact that there's not even an exclusive single by the new lineup greatly disappoints me, and pretty much confirms that we're never going to get any new music. I was really holding out hope that they'd put out a new single as a way to push sales, but alas.
