It's so great for Fortus ;)

His contribution is bigger than Izzy in Guns N' Roses History. Fortus is the one people will always remember.

At this point, his contribution in gnr’s history is probably what it is because of axl’s way of doing things. How in hell would fortus or ferrer or brain or else would get recognition if the boss doen’t want to release music?

Had gnr released albums in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2015 (a slower pace than a lot of bands), some new guys would have gained a lot of respect from a lot more people.

Now, 17 years later I don’t think fortus is to blame for lack of new music.

I like all the line-ups (except for Ashba because he’s not good enough - nothing against him personally - just I think he's a mediocre guitar player and I don't like his song writing efforts either).  The music matters to me, too.

I also love this album.  Hey, I’m the sole member of this forum who loves Riad.  Well, there might be 2 others…unless you do and that would make a grand total of 4.

    Yep, totally serious.

Wow, it's not often I come across 1. a CD fan 2. A CD fan who has high expectations of how TWAT should be played. LOL So this is a surprise. All TWAT versions pre-Louisville - now that was catastrophic. I remember complaining bitterly about how Slash's guitar always sounded ill or drunk, or both, and not in a good way. He struggled terribly with tone, right up until the last show where I think he finally managed to incorporate his own tone in the right way. Before then Robin's solo often sounded like a mule in pain.  So compared with that? Yeah, LA Forum was the best of Slash's versions for that leg. I still think he did a bloody awesome job.  Admittedly, Robin's solo was played a little safe but he crushed Buckethead’s.

Buckethead's were the best - Robin's were the worst, by a loooong shot. LOL

I had long since given up listening to Axl.  I was just ignoring him and focusing on the band (sorry Axl!).  Now that Slash has nailed both solos, Axl shouldn't roll TWAT out again.

I disagree - seems to be a pattern here.   Yes, Slash struggled for most of the tour on the CD songs for the reasons you say, but he got to grips with them in the second NA leg. Of course it was always going to be a challenge for him, but he rose to that challenge.  As a fan of both CD and Slash, I'm really proud of him for what he accomplished.  It was actually exciting watching him improve with every show.  I used to look forward to seeing what he’d do next and sometimes it would work and other times it wouldn’t, but you know, that was part of the joy of it - not knowing what to expect.

It was Slash playing the CD songs that brought some spontaneity to the setlist because they played all the other songs the same way each and every time.  It was Slash improving on CD songs that made me realise it wasn’t 'cash grab' because if it was all about money, he wouldn’t have been trying so hard.

The rest of what you say?  It’s just not practical to have half a dozen guitarists participating in the tour - though I do believe Axl would get off on that very idea.  He seems to like cluttering the stage with as many of them as possible.  It’s like his hobby, collecting guitarists. ^_^

Look, I love CD more than life itself, but the reality is it’s not that important for the tour that they play those song to perfection or like previous line-ups did, every night.  They must do justice to AFD and some of the Illusions songs because those matter.  CD songs don’t.  Not to the crowd who’ve paid a small fortune to hear NR and SCOM.

For what it’s worth I do think this line-up played them brilliantly in the end.  No, they didn’t play them how they were written to be played, but I’m OK with that.  I actually love the new interpretation particularly Duff’s driving bass which CD sorely lacks (Riad being the exception) and Slash’s dirtier, sexier approach - it works.

I guess it’s a matter of personal taste and how accepting you are of hearing a different line-up put a new spin on songs you love.  I particularly love what Slash brought to Sorry, Prostitute and Catcher.  TWAT was always going to be problematic, but I sure enjoyed listening to Slash strive to conquer those solos - and he did, in his own way.  That's why I love him.

Hi! I dont post really often but i want you to know that i absolutely love chinese and that i hate every single slash’s solo on this i love. I even liked ashbàs take better (closer to the original.) to me fink’s solo on this i love has the same feel to it than those of november rain and i was surprised slash couldnt write something similar.

I'm all for Fortus getting his time to shine but I think he drops the ball on this arrangement of Madagascar. Remember the old versions from RIR when Robin or buckethead (I forget which) was soloing during the boring quotes part? Even Axl was jamming out on a guitar. I want Slash to be doing that.

I 'd be fine with that

There's a big difference between playing with a drummer like that and having a metronome going in your ear the entire show.

Generally the drummer have the metronome and other dont. That way, slash should not be bothered by it.

Ps: duff probably has an intro click for easy.

Yeah i do. I like how he uses the ride in soft spots and how he accentuate some punch at the end.

There's no click in Frank's in ears. If there was then he wouldn't speed up and slow down in the same song. Plus I can't imagine Slash agreeing to play to a click.

One would think there is since the entire show is synched with videos. Speed has been consistant the entire tour. Slow down at same spots and on same songs. Anyway, i dont really care. Steven has been mess8ng up with tempos since gnr’s very debut and it didnt bother me either. Internet has made us very picky and unrock n roll lol

What do you make of his drumming overall?  I didn't think much of his band, but I don't know enough about drumming to comment on Steven's performance.

The band was meh. His drumming was good on most songs. But he messes with the tempos during songs. Just like in the old days. Not bad overall anyway, but it certainly don’t convince me to fire frank. I mean, the guy just follows the click tempo playing in his in-ear monitor wich were previous’y chosen as a band or by the big 3. It wouldn’t have been a bad move to have Adler play the appetite stuff and frand the rest... even if i like frank’s playing. It doen’t bother me one bit. I like his additions in jungle, estranged etc. The band probably like them too, i guess.

How many GNR fans would answer with things like synths, programming, synth orchestras when asked what should be on a true guns record? Chances are: not a lot. So I don't see how his statement is not valid. It merely represents most of the fans perspective

Still, november rain is arguably their biggest hit. (But I know what you mean)

I love big production n all but i think it should remain a rarity on a gnr album. (Coming from a guy who's favorite album is c.d)

Dude, you can't deny the facts. Adler, Izzy, Matt and Gilby ain't satisfied as well. So it's obvious that a lot of fans ain't happy with that farce tour, too.

And yeah, I know... Pitman is bitter as well...but it's just Pitman.

If it wasn't going to be izzy, i'm glad fortus is there. He earned it a lot more than gilby. Damn he's been there since 2002 and played on chinese d. Gilby only did a tour and played on spag. He never wrote a song with axl.

  9. Finck. No question for me.

I like slash, but this solo totally did it for me and i can't stand any of his attempts. This is disappointing for me because it's one of my top 10 favorite gnr song. I get why some may not like it, but to me this is a desperate love song and i feel the honesty in it. Also.... Piano/orchestra instrumental version is just awesome.

Yes, but the kind of keyboardist that Izzy uses isn't the same as Axl/Dizzy playing. The organ is for "ambience". For example, the organ on Shuffle It All (and F.P Money for that matter) is completely different different to the piano on Dust N Bones, for example. The organ is unobtrusive, where as the piano is clearly making a point to be there.

And yeah, Dizzy's been playing over the songs over the years. Never liked it. However, thankfully (for me at least) its inaudible in person so thats great. Don't wanna go see guns to hear Dizzy play piano on Nightrain.

On rockers he generally plays some perc and he does a lot of back vocals. Nobody goes to see dizzy, but he brings a fuller sound in general. Ex: congos/bongos in jungle... Just like on appetite.

Anyway kinda bored. We are fucking picky over a fucking guy wgos been there forever lolll what about a new album. That. Is. Something to talk about... Oh wait it's gnr so we are supposed to listen to some fucken 30 years old song again n again n again.

Slash was there too. If it wasn't for Slash there would be no UYI or UYI2. If it wasn't for Slash there would be no Dizzy

What's the point? I just said that dizzy is a member of the band and has been on almost every gnr record. He has his place. Slash obviously has his.

Its not like his piano was important to the songs he played on (other than Locomotive). The songs (Civil War, Pretty Tied Up, Yesterdays) would have been better without him on it imo

Still i strongly prefer those songs with piano. Imo it fits the songs perfectly. Just like it does on 14 years or breakdown etc. I dont think it's a matter of what we prefer. I think it's what did the band on those records that matter. In the end he was there because they wanted that (except for slash lol)
