  1. Probably false but the whole "lawyers working for two years" thing...could this by why Axl signed off on calling a residency "No Trickery", because it was supposed to have original members, but then it got all lawyer'd up and he just shrugged his shoulders and decided to keep the name anyway?

  2. Never really thought about it, but yeah maybe. Knowing Axl's deep seeded hatred for Slash and how he obsessively kept an eye on VR while they were making their debut, maybe he felt he had to one up them and add more layers to the songs?

I say that because how many songs on Chinese Democracy did they actually write between 04 and 08? In those years they were still tweaking as far as I know.

Shackler's Revenge, or at least the lyrics, were written between 2007-08 because they're about an event that happened in 2007. If The World was also different on record than the version on the Body of Lies soundtrack, I think some of the lyrics were changed.

  3. 14 Years and Pretty Tied Up are the best to me. Great synopses (intentionally or otherwise) of the relationship between Axl and Izzy, and the entire band. Most of the songs on Chinese Democracy just seem incomplete to me, I think IRS is the worst. They all have great potential for badass lyrical displays and just never make it there.

  4. I don't agree with that sentiment. The general public (in America at least) doesn't really care anymore, the cat's out of the bag, any extra material will sink or swim on its own merits, not "this is mysterious and secretive". That was the case with Chinese Democracy, they don't care about the follow-ups the same way so it's a different situation.

  5. You need to read Chinese Whispers:

Yes, record companies are the ones who fund recording albums. Guns N' Roses is under contract. Axl used record company money to record Chinese Democracy. Funding was cut sometime in 2004.

The record company owns the recordings - they aren't just a 'publisher' or 'distributor' of music. And that money must be paid back before really the band/Axl can come ahead and 'make money' off of it. Supposedly Best Buy wiped the slate clean with their exclusivity deal.

But we know that the 2006 tour was to help make sure there was money to finish the album.

So the lastest tour should allow for some profit to make after all these years.

Well, no, the 2009/2010 tours also. But I read that they may have lost money (or had to dip into what they were being paid) to make the tour work because of $hitty routing and not having a manager. So whether they LOST money or didn't make as much...

    ...is open for interpretation.

But yeah, proceeds from this tour go to the GNR organization....and Azoff.

..and Azoff. I didn't know he was still in the mix ?

Part of the lawsuit settlement. They agreed to pay Azoff money based on the tour.

  6. Did I listen to every leak I could get my ears on for years? Yes. It was more exciting than the actual album release, because as has been mentioned, none of us really thought it was ever coming. Did it spoil my first listen? Partially, I managed to resist downloading Scraped when it leaked three weeks prior to the release and it blew me away upon first listen. Considering how overproduced the final versions were, I'd embrace new leaks. The first Catcher In The Rye leak pisses all over the album version.
