That's a pretty honest and to the point answer. Can't fault him for that.

Be interesting to know whether "have no idea and don't care" has altered at all in the last 10 years..........

Read Towlie's sig from 2010. Watch China Exchange 2016. The Axl chats. The 2014 interview. It's constantly changed from the start.

Axl isn’t getting younger. Assuming GNR retires when Axl is 66-67, the band has less than 10 years left, and I can realistically see this band trying to do this cycle until the retirement.

I know i'm a broken record here but, fuck, we first heard Madagascar etc when Axl was 39. It's still something of a novelty to hear this 'new' song played live on NITL. And we're wondering if we'll hear any more new songs by the time he's fucking 69.

I don't see him getting away with whatever his voice will be like by then. It's now or never.

To be fair to Axl, he never promised anything. His last statement on the subject was last year in Iceland, where all he said was "you never know".

Axl's most honest interview was with Del James in 2009. It was very telling in regards to how he feels about releasing music:

    When's the next album?

Have no idea and don't care. Hopefully, we'll be working 'Chinese' for a good bit. Of course there's the same idiots that have been around forever already demanding release dates.

    How much material is there?

Not as much as Baz [Sebastian Bach] thinks he heard! Really, it doesn't matter. If things go well enough, we'd like to get another out at some point in our lifetimes.

He certainly never promised anything but he's also said massively different things at different points. I very recently re-read all the 2008 Axl chats from shortly before this and he sounded extremely positive about unreleased songs being heard and 'same bat time, same bat channel' etc. The London 2002 '18 songs, ten extra tracks, 3 albums' deal.

I have no doubt that by idiots he means us. From the chats it was clear he'd been taking notes on forum members probably since first engaging with fans online.

The 'we'd like to get another out at some point in our lifetimes' sounds like him at his most defeated and this was after what he called the worst year of his life. In 2010, 2012, 2013 there were plenty of rumors and powerpoints suggesting something was coming.

    Thats really insane...

What's insane is i'm still on here every day checking to see if there's a 0.00001% chance there might be another one in the next 29 years. Or just an EP with some shit covers and re-recordings of 20-year old songs.

    Axl's not insane. He's rich.

Russ is right: if nothing after 31/01 and Miami is NITL fuck 'em.

Tbh I still just wanna hear everything in the vault with Bucket/Robin/Brain and Axl vocals.

I thought Jon bon jovi's voice is shot and even he's gonna release a new album. 2020 is a great year for us classic rock fans, even without any mythical gnr album.

Johnny has already discovered that he can release utter shite records then fill arenas without Richie whilst barely straining through a set with no range or power so he's already planned out his next decade of albums and mini-tours.

Sounds to much like an Aerosmith album title to me.

I couldn't give a bollocks about Aerosmith. Do you get the point of the title in relation to Axl and the fans', public's, journalist's etc perceptions and opinions of him in general. Originally it was probably meant to be for CD2 and worked more specifically in the context with regard to Chinese and the new band but can still work now.

I loathe this band sometimes. And it's all Axl and/or management.

Duff puts out new music and promotes. Slash puts out new music and promotes.

GNR? Nothing. And never talk about what's going on with the band. OK, cool.

But yesterday is a perfect example of GNR triggering me. It was MLK day. I had a short 8-second video of my dog on my Instagram, and I wanted to use eight seconds of "Madagascar" part with MLK for my video. But GNR, unlike almost every other band that exists right now, removed their songs from Instagram, TikTok, etc. So people can't use a few second clips to play over their photos or videos. How shortsighted is this? I mean, literally memes are created these days on TikTok and IG with short clips of new or old music. Songs have gotten popular because of this. Yet GNR is like, "Nah, let's remove all our music from social media platforms." Same shit they do with the youtube live video takedowns.

For what it's worth. Duff and Slash have their new music on social media.

It's a weird one. Prince blocked all his music and eventually pictures from fansites which meant that basically after The Most Beautiful Girl In The World in 1993 he barely made any new fans and to a couple generations he barely exists. This was all for the principle that e.g. Youtube makes millions off of my work and pay me an insulting amount. But now he's dead, he left no provisions and his estate and vault are in a mess and his stuff's now uploaded all over the place.

I agree with you. but on the other hand I think it's good that he takes antidepressants that calm him down and allow him to live normally, than to see him on stage -completly mad- when you could see the whole range of emotions that were throwing him ... and we all knew from what Axl was struggling with. this anger on the stage didn't come from anywhere. do you remember how Axl once mentioned in an interview that he would like to find his inner peace? - I wish him that. I hope he found it

Agreed, but I have zero knowledge that he's on anything, just saying it seems like he could be.

I can't predict, but my hope is-

New single on the morning of 01/31

News that morning that an album is soon to follow the single

The NITL line up plays a kick ass show that night which features a drastically changed setlist

Axl turns in an ACDC level performance for the Fox cameras

Some sort of sustainable, positive buzz is created

    The forum erupts in joy

    Dude.

  10. I really hate self-titled records under any circumstance. Pretentious, self-important bollocks. "Oh I just feel this album truly represents who I am and where i'm at and what I need to say to the world and it's such an important record for this time and for the world and i'm such an artist..."

"I really love the Under My Skin album by Avril Lavigne but it's not a patch on the Avril Lavigne record." "Ah?"

Can we do predictions for Miami? I reckon no announcements, nothing happens, no new songs, Axl is shit, they all look bored and the internet and lots of news sites all make fun of the pro shot footage.

Axl needs to have a chat with Bruce now, he’s fit as a fiddle and is like 15years older than Axl.

A couple years ago after Bruce finished some mammoth 2.5 year tour with a show at Rock In Rio he was on the beach running first thing next morning. Axl can't even be arsed to work off his plump BEFORE a tour. But he still has a friggin tent backstage full of gym equipment XD

It really is a testament to how great this band are/were that any of us still give a shit at this point.

For me it's more a testament to Chinese. If Axl hadn't released a thing or played anything new live after 1994 I wouldn't be on here checking everyday, no chance. But from first hearing the new stuff at Rio 3 in 2001 I was hooked for more.

This article is further support to my theory that, in the studio, Axl could sound almost like 1980's Axl with multiple takes and only recording one song in a day (or week).  He could also (with proper preparation) probably sound like the UYI tour Axl for one show after weeks or months of vocal rest.  The problem is that I don't think it is physically possible for him to sing like that at his age when doing shows every few days.  I just think his vocal chords can't recover and he'd barely be able to sing at all in the subsequent shows.

I was in the pit for a show in 2018 and he was standing very close to where I was during one of the long note/screams after the "when you're high..." line in Jungle.  Watching the movements of his neck muscles really shows how much physical strain there is to sing like he does.

I would imagine that there are times when it hurts to try and sing a high note with rasp.

Yeah but what's amazing about 2006-2007 and even moreso 2010 is that it looked effortless for him. He wasn't straining or thinking about singing, he was moving around and performing like he did in 1992, he knew he was in beast mode. Compare a video of TIL from Puerto or London or Bucharest and then look at those last few performances on NITL where he looks like he's having an aneurysm just trying to squeak it out in falsetto.

Well he likes Metallica, who were heavily inspired by Iron Maiden, so it wouldnt be far off to think that he likes them. Tey (GNR) opened for Iron Maiden back way back when. And Slash was a guest on Bruce's radio show in 2010 to promote his Slash solo album

Thanks. I adore Maiden and don't enjoy Metallica for a second so I see it as pretty far off. They might as well be entirely different genres to me.

Don't think you'll catch Axl in one any time soon.

Based on stuff he said in the 80s, no, but he went to see them more recently and i'm sure i've heard him be more complimentary of both the band and Bruce's voice since then. If you look at the subject matter of Maiden songs and the music compared to what Axl writes and his own major influences you can see why he wouldn't relate.

I don't remember the sources, but Slash said he liked Di'Anno Maiden before they became "ridiculous" with Dickinson or something like that. I remember people talking about it back in 2010 when he was going to be interviewed for Dickinson's radio show. I also remember a fan said they were wearing a Killers shirt and Slash said he would have to go listen to that album again.

I should have double checked but it definitely wan't a Di'Anno era shirt. Not that that necessarily means anything. Maybe he just liked the shirt and liked early Maiden.

He did mentoon maiden i n his book but i got the impression their music isnt his cup of tea. Goes for duff as well.

Yeah, musically and lyrically it's miles from the stuff they write or generally talk about as influences.
