  1. Duff is gonna come back to gnr...

No. Tommy is cool. I liked him from the moment that Axl

introduced him in RIR 2001, told his story, as devoted himself to learn

the songs in a short time, it seems that he had never been presented with a big

band, etc.. was a great moment, after seven years of Guns stopped.

This is just a job parallel, like the other guys do.

Nothing against Duff, but it seems now it does not fit in the Guns,

It was nice that show, your presentation, but not come back definitive,

    he has other projects.

As a guest sometimes everything well.

I´d not like to see Tommy out.

Tommy Stinsonn is an important component of Guns, if it's working so far,

he should not go out like, "don´t abandon a winning team!"

Tommy is funny, in the good sense is a great musician.

duff doesn't fit in the guns? Are you for real??

  2. Enjoyable read, but there was far too much of an Axl focus. Had this been an article on Chinese Democracy, I would have understood, but Appetite was a deeply collaborative effort. In that respect, Slash deserves a lot more praise. He influenced a great deal of the songwriting on that album. Look up Axl's 2006 interview with Eddie Trunk. He talks about It's So Easy, in particular, and how it started out as a light folk ballad, until he and Slash transformed it into the rocker it became. Despite the McKagan/Arkeen credit, Slash took the music in a completely different direction..

Also, most of the music on Appetite was written by Slash and Izzy. Check out the credits: Slash wrote 9 of 12 songs, Izzy wrote 9 of 12 songs, and Axl wrote the lyrics to 9 of 12 songs..

    -Kickingthehabit

Did Axl really just write the lyrics?

And are these just educated guesses of the credits or have they been released at some point?

    Nice article!

I really like this part and I think it sems things up nicely...

That’s what made this band so great, after all: its chemistry. Each member contributed something integral and unique to the recording process, and that one-in-a-million combination resulted in a masterpiece. When the lineup became fragmented, and when the egos began to run out of control, the balance was upset and that all began to change. But for a moment in time, Guns N’ Roses was that rarity: a near-perfect union of musicians whose talents created a near-perfect work of art.

Its hard to say for sure who wrote this part of that part? For example Slash wrote the intro to SCOM but was ready to bin it before Izzy and Axl intervened. Also the lyrics to Night Train were written by the whole band as they walked down the street (according to slash's book) with the band literally taking it in turns to try and out do each other with new and improved lines as they walked.

But untilmately for me it was the synergenistic combination of all involved that set this record apart, and once you understand that talk of relative contrabutions seems kinds redundant?

  3. Fellow GNR fans,

It is with regret to inform you that mygnrforum.com GNR Fan Forumwill be closing as of Friday April 15th.

Running mygnrforum.com since December 31st 2001 has been fun for a long time. It’s made me discuss and meet a whole lots of great GNR fans from all over the world (you know who you are), it’s also gave me the opportunity assist many GNR concerts for free, meet the band and Axl Rose.

In recent years, some aspects have grown to be whole lot less fun: leaks, lack of communication from management, even lawyer letters from the band. Those I lived with and became accustomed to.

Running internet Forum for a large website such as mygnrforum.com (38,452 members) and ten times more fans visiting (guests) requires expensive servers for which the monthly costs are significant.

Absence of promotion of Chinese Democracy, still no US tour, waiting for new material, the recession, are all factors which affect how much money can be made to offset the hosting fees which have been significantly higher than what ads and donations bring in.

I do thank the few supporters who have made donations. Unfortunately, it’s something that never really took off as only few people were able to donate (190$ in the last year). Supporters who have made donations in the last year have been informed how they can get a pro-rata refund if they wish.

So for many years now, I’ve been putting up my own money to help keep alive the Forum. This is a situation which I have discussed with GNR many times. Aside from expressing they want mygnrforum.com closed in the past, even after being offered, GNR has not shown any concrete interest in supporting and/or taking over the mygnrforum.com.

Aside from not making any business sense to run the Forum, it’s grown to expose me as the owner of the site to lawyer letters threatening lawsuits. So it’s making sense to throw the towel now and just close the mygnrforum.com. I guess GNR will finally have what it has wanted for a very long time!

I do believe that this was the best GNR fan Forum of all, with the best infrastructure, best moderating team and best forum members (GNR fans). It’s a shame that could not grow into something more. I often browse other band’s websites and fan forums and truly envy how those other bands have embraced the internet, fan forums, and fans! But not GNR unfortunately. I often think that the Forum could have been so much more for GNR. But then again GNR could also be so much more. But it’s currently not, and has not been for some time now. Great band, great music, great signer, but not so great marketing.

Thank you all for your continued interest during the last 10 years, I truly hope all the GNR fans will be able to find a place to continue to exchange. Thank you to all the forum members who made mygnrforum such a great place over the years, and a special thank you to all the members of the moderating team (past and present) who have put so much of their time into this. Special thanks to Highvoltage, Montrealer and Madison for their implication over the years of running this place.

I also wish all the best to GNR and to Axl Rose for the future.

    Eric Romano, admin

    Hi Eric,

Forgot to say thinks for everything!

  4. We're still up?

FUCK YEAH WE ARE INVINCIBLE! rock3

    FUCK YEAH!! rock3

    This is really sad news!

There is no where else you can go to chat freely with your fellow Gunners.

Really don't see any point in going to HTGTH? That place is so tightly regulated and completly un rock n roll.

Another shot in the foot for GnR

  5. Rose countersued last May 17, claiming the manager tried to force him to reunite with the original Guns N' Roses band members and failed to properly promote the band's Chinese Democracy CD.

How do you define 'properly promote' ?

While under Azoff management, the album was released. Azoff succeeded where other's had failed.

Azoff (for all we know) got Axl the Best Buy deal. For such an ill received album lacking in hits, Azoff did Axl good.

Since then an now, Axl has appeared on stage with Duff.

Considering Axl did zero promotion of ChiDem I think he has a pretty week argument blaming the lack of promotion on Azoff..If he thought Azoff was not getting it done why didn't he switch Managers then and why not do some interviews and quick videos to promote the release?

I don't think Axl is going to win this one. He may settle with Azoff but I can see him paying the guy something....Since Azoff has an inhouse staff of lawyers he is paying anyway to fight this suit for him he can bleed Axl if the case drags on..Axl should settle and move on............In the end he is going to pay more than the suit was for IMHO just to be the last man standing......

You should read the specific complaints cited in the countersuit before dismissing its validity. There are specifics that are interesting to read to say the least.

    Ali

I read the complete countersuit Ali and the accusations are going to be difficult to prove on Axl's lawyers part. Axl complaining that Azoff did not promote him is pretty laughable since he did not lift a finger to promote the album himself even after Azoff was out of the picture and has done nothing to promote it other than tour to this day. We have no idea what plans Azoff might have proposed to Axl only to be rejected same with the record label. Pretty weak defense on his part...Also think he will have a hard time proving Azoff sabotaged ChiDem in an effort to force a reunion.....

Personally I think Axl's lawyers filed the countersuit as a defensive measure..Throw as much shit against the wall and see what sticks and try to muddy the water of Azoffs suit as much as possible...Why did Axl wait for Azoffs suit to file if Azoff fucked him over so badly? if they really had a case it would have made sense for them to file first as we know how much Axl loves to sue people......

When all is said and done I think Azoff either wins a settlement or the suit gets thrown out of court as I doubt Axl gets any money from Azoff...Either way Axl loses in the end as his lawyer fees will most likely exceed the pocket change Azoff is sueing for......

No offense CR, but I think your disdain for Axl is allowing you to dismiss the claims in the countersuit far too easily. Like I said, the fact is that it is the manager's job to arrange promotional and marketing opportunities and the artists' job to execute on those plans. What Axl himself has done on his own as far as promotion isn't relevant to Azoff not honoring his fiduciary duties, and doesn't absolve Azoff of his duties.

We do have an idea that a Van Halen tour was proposed and rumored that never happened. That has never been denied and even back in 2009 there were rumors of that tour going around.

As far as the forcing of a reunion, it will be difficult to prove, but Azoff's history certainly makes it plausible.

Who filed first or second is immaterial to the validity of the claims themselves. Axl was on tour in March of 2010, so who knows, it could be that he was going to deal with the issue after the South American leg of the tour.

There are many more specifics, including tour planning, budget calculations, the 2nd Tokyo date cancellation, the abrupt pulling of the Canadian VIP packages, the draft booklet release, the streaming of the album on MySpace, etc. that Azoff still has to answer about. I'm curious to hear what his defense will be.

I think this will be settled out of court sooner or later. I don't think it will be easy for Azoff to claim he is owed commissions if he did make the mistakes that are claimed. If those allegations are true, then he half-assed his job at best, and is also trying to claim commission for shows that weren't even finalized until after he was out.

    Ali

I don't claim to know the ins and outs of the case, and I have no idea who is right and who is wrong, my guess it'll be shades of grey as per usual.

But what puzzles me is why did Axl not promote the album?

Being an established name and a man of no inconsiderable means he could of promoted the album as much or as little as he liked?

As it was there was some promotion neaspaper ads, radio and TV ads etc but nothing featuring fresh input from Axl.

Even if he had already fallen out with Azoff behind the scenes, it would still makes sense for him to promote the album? Indeed surely it would be incumbent on him if he believed Azoff was not going to do it?

The idea that Azoff could stop Axl promoting the album if he wanted to doesn't seem to add up?

SO you have to think Axl didn;t promote teh album because he didn't want to. This question then becomes why?

Did Axl not promote the album to get back at Azoff? In which case I think he prolly hurt himself alot more than he could ever have hurt Azoff.

Or was Axl consideirng the whole reunion thing? But either got cold feet or decided he didn't like the terms?

    Baz

  6. Axl could never approach being what Kurt was, he's just not that good, never has been. For a start Kurt actually wrote music and lyrics which, correct me if i'm wrong was never really Axls forte til a lot later on. Kurt music, for the mainstream at least, SOUNDED original and Axls music i think, took off because it was kind of taking cues from Aerosmith and The Stones and Led Zeppelin, established bands and an established sound that had been saturating the mainstream since fuck knows when ahead of time. Also Kurt was just naturally a better lyricist. Not that Axls lyrics suck but you can see post Appetite that he's taken his new role as voice of a generation VERY seriously and he's trying very hard to be profound. I think Kurt wanted to be profound too and often took stabs at it but just couldn't take himself seriously in that role and, quite honestly it saves his music whereas Axl got into his i'm standing at the edge of an era looking down upon the bloodshed and war we perpetrate and crying for my generation shit with songs like Civil War and all that stuff.

Kurt appeared an instinctive genius whereas Axl appeared/appears like he had to sit down and really give it a shot and kudos to him, he's hit and miss with it but the hits are worth it whereas Cobain, bless his dear heart, died 17 years ago yesterday the silly boy, was routinely brilliant.

I like Nirvana too and of course Kurt was central to that, but don't go deifying him just because he shot himself.

Kurt inmo was great because he wrote songs from the heart that played with performed with awesome intensity.

However, his music was pretty much a new-wave of punk and also what was going on in Seattle at the time indeed hw was pretty open about his influences? Moreover, their biggest hit smells like teen spirit was just a rip off of the riff from Bostons more than a feeling? So it wasn't that original?

As for his lyrics? They were more like a stream of consciousnes? I did like some of his lyrics but I have to say that lyrically I think Axl is the stronger of the two? I prefer his more literal style.

And please don't believe the effortlessly brilliant accidental star garbage. Kurt and Nirvana inmo conscientiously decided to place themselves as the anthises of the whole GnR excess thing. They (with no small thanks to the gret music they wrote) did that very successfully.

  7. I am not a slash hater, I respect what he did to help the legacy of guns. But to say this is not guns n roses cause the orginal band left, is stupid. Gnr is a vision of axl that still carries on through his music. The newgnr have the right to be called guns n roses. Guns is much more than a name, its a legacy of its own. Some say Axl uses the name just for money, wrong! If it was about money he would just suck it up and play with his old bandmates. We all know they would be up for it. Its just like a sports team, just because they change players and lose players doesnt mean they have to change their name. I have been told that I have seen Axls band, not the real gnr. Of course they mean original band. And they agrue to try to prove their point. Their (haters) point will never get proven, never! And why? Because their point is an opinion. Simple fact, opinions cannot be proven. Even though in their warped little minds they beg the differ. The fact of the matter is that I as a true gnr fan have paid to see guns n roses play live. It says on the tix, venue, and the contract. Most importantly in my heart its guns n roses! And nobody will ever change my mind by their opinions.

Complements on your well worded post Batman, I don't hate slash, but I'm not intrigued with what he has done from leaving GNR to present, however I'm not a fan of the slash fanboys, who act like he invented GNR, I'm elated to see the spirit of GNR hasn't changed ie: Rebellious, and still doing things their own way, I like Chidem, and the live gigs are nothing short of mindblowing, yes this IS Guns N' Roses!

Sure all anybody has is opinion. Its fine to have different opinions too, surely the whole point of forum is to hold and discuss differing viewpoints? So long as its done in a reasonaed and measured manner I think discussion is a good thing?

Why does everyone who doesn't back Axl and nu-Gnr 100% labelled a hater?

I bought Chi Dem I have seen various incarnations of the new band 4 times, are these the actions of a hater? Yet I still much prefer the AFD line up and I would prefer to see a reunion.

I agree that nu-GnR is Axl's vision, but that is precisely why I find this incarnation lacking. The original band represented a synergy that I don't think any of them fully appreciated at the time. Also the new guys really don't get much chance to create their own chemisty because Axl has sole control of the artistic direction of the band. Even if the old band did reunite if Axl kept total control like he does now and i would not expect them to recapture the old magic either.

I really feel Axl's parnoid need for control lead to the break up of the original band, and I think it is stifling any chance of the nu-band ever being taken seriously by the public at large. Its catch 22 for them if they do write a great album its Axl who will get the credit and if they don't they get pelters for holding Axl back.

  8. its just a band some im not gonna keep arguing over it, but for me and a lot of other people. A band isn't just a name. Its about the music they create. im sorry, but CD is honestly one of the worst rock ablums ive ever heard. Theres no way I could ever associate just a pile of hogshit to Guns N' Roses. As far as Im concerned, GNR was stricken with cancer when izzy and steven left, and it died when slash left.

Funny how is this argument continues in virtually every thread, in every section, every day.

But, here's the thing I don't understand. You say Chinese Democracy is garbage. Why? The lyrics, the guitar, the vocal's? Nah, probably because you listened to it with a hard-headed thought process of "there's no Slash, this has got to suck." "This isn't Guns N' Roses!" Your comparing two different bands. It's like comparing The Beatles to AC/DC. Two completely different sound's. Sure, the name's the same. But, th bandmates have changed and moved on with their lives. Sure, it may not be the GN'R of 1985-1993, but it's damn good if given a chance. Which sadly alot of people are not because "THERES NO SLASH!!!"

What I did, is I listened to Chinese Deomcracy like any other Rock record. I loved it. Sure, Slash is gone, it's not the old band. But how can you say song's like Better, Madagascar, There Was a Time, and Chinese Demcracy are horrible?

The cancer of Guns N' Roses effected GN'R in June of 1985, and was cured and treated October of 1996.

Thats it, two completely different bands. Thanks for making my point. Now if someone would tell Axl that...But you coudlnt be more wrong on the rest of it. I was in the BB parking lot the very day CD came out totally freaked out of my mind waiting for the next GNR CD. To me i know it wouldnt be the same, but god damn it Axl was on there and thats all I cared about for the time being. When I listened to it, I couldnt believe what I heard. Axl sounded like crap all throughout the cd. The songs were just boring, no good melodies or solos. The lyrics werent catchy or interesting in any way. It was a complete let down, cant even describe how much of a let down it was. Ive been a huge GNR fan since before middle school and have waited and waited for a new GNR cd, and just for this? seriously? Use Your Illusions takes a huge diarrhea shit all over this thing. I understand you like it, thats cool but I dont like a single song on that album. Catcher in the rye and better were so-so but the rest were just painful to listen to. I had to force myself to finish listening to those songs. Its been sitting in my dresser drawer for over 2 years now.

    Yep, two different bands.

Axl know's it' a different band. In the "Axl's homework" essay he posted on here 2 year's ago, he said "I look at this band as nuGNR, and the old one as OldGNR." It's a different band with totaly different musician's besides one. But, unfortunely for the oldGNR fan's, Slash and Duff willingly signed over the name (whether inotixcated or not, they did), so the name Guns N' Roses is his to use at his expense.

And, see as though he got a new band to play with him, who are great musician's and I hope can write andm ake a record with Axl in the future, why just all the sudden stop using the name? In respect to Slash? A guy he has a buring hatred for becuase of Slash's manipulative way's? Nope.

Have you noticed over the past few years, since CD has been released the "New GN'R" label has kind of drifted away. It seems more like the new band just wants to be known as "GN'R".

It is GNR,it is 2011,not 1990's, and if perchance you were to actually get the "alumni" onstage together, there is little or no chance that the "magic" would be there,I've been to numerous shows in 2010 and I see that chemistry and magic, better musicians, and what they will write together nobody can judge, only speculate,I'm still convinced CD is an excellent album, musically and lyrically, and am chomping at the proverbial bit to hear more from Guns N' Roses! slash quit of his own volation,as did duff, and the contract stipulated IF the band were to disband, the name would remain with axl,I've seen the AFD lineup, as well as the Chidem 2010 lineup, slash is not missed at all,get over it.

ur not seeing GNR ur seeing Axl tour with whoever hasnt quit ot been fired yet

its a band name, not a band, do u know the difference?

seeing every lineup since AFD doesn't make u some sort of expert

whats next, u going to brag that u saw Axl sing in the church choir too

saying Slash isnt missed is naive, there would be no GNR today if it wasnt for the music he helped Axl make

what exactly was Axl doing before Slash joined the band? he didnt get that record label contract all by himself, no one was tripping over themselves to sign him until Slash came along,

u give one person way too much credit

n for the record, u didnt see the Chinese Democracy lineup in 2010, nice try

I did see Guns N' Roses in 2010 multiple times, originally slash got the job because Tracii Guns refused to play some gigs, and YES,no matter how much you deny it,it is Guns N' Roses, and it's tragic you are so blinded you can't see the truth, your boy isn't the most prolific guitarist, and probably barely remembers his time in GNR because of his various addictions, you must still be embarassed over the superbowl fiasco  or bitter because you haven't gotten to see GNR lately :D

It's a good thing Slash got the job because GNR was going no where until the original 5 got together! And GNR has gone no where since he left.

Back on topic though Ritz is the best show I have seen from GnR maybe not note perfect but for sheer power and intensity its hard to beat.

I have seen the classic line up + the 02 line up, again in 06 (twice) and last year (with Duff!!).

I have to say the 06 Hammersmith show was easily the best I have seen from the new band but I still doesn't compare to the classic line up imo.

It just seemed to be more spontaeous and natural with the old band. The nu guys play great and all and its hard to put a finger on precisely what the difference is. I guess it would be hard for any band to match the chemistry the old band had, this is made all the harder because in the main they are stuck playing those amazing songs that the old band wrote.

  9. Just watched Alice Cooper on the 'Joy Behar ' show.....(I know...wife had JB on, not my thing). Anyways- Alice Cooper was the guest. Dude was awesome. He mentioned how he met Elvis once and that Elvis was so protected by his people. He couldn't think, breathe, pee, crap or do anything without his people being around. Alice even saw Elvis months later and Elvis tried to say hi or whatever and his people shuffled him away in a hurry. Is Axl too protected/insulated? Wonder what would happen if he could break those chains & get away from the hangers on and yes men (Beta etc....). The users & hangers on. I don't know, Alice was interesting though.

What makes you think Axl doesn't know exactly what he's doing? That's the problem around here, people misinterpret so much about GNR it's staggering.

Axl operates with intent. You should know this by now. He's not out for fortune and glory any more. What's so hard to understand about that? He's low key. Is that a crime? He does what he wants. He's not driven to ascend to the top of the pop charts. He's not driven to constantly be in the public's eye. What proof do you have that he can't "think, breathe, pee, crap, or do anything without his people being around"? I'll answer that for you: YOU HAVE NO PROOF.

I'm not sure how he can be surrounded with hangers-on and yes-men and at the same time be too "protected/insulated" when it's obvious he determines his own destiny, and has encountered plenty of dissenting opinions. Read the fuckin chats, hell.

As Axl said in one of his chats, he doesn't work for you. I guess what I don't understand is why people manufacture these grandiose ideas as to why he isn't out to be in the public spotlight any more. He's older, wiser, and from all indications, seems to be following his own path, with no help from yes-men and hangers-on.

Your perception is flawed, that's all I have to say. Axl's an artist. Why you and other people seem to hold him to some unattainable unrealistic standard that no human being can achieve is beyond me. GNR has released an album, done some touring, is booked for Rock in Rio, and there are indications another album may be on its way. WHAT THE FUCK MORE DO YOU WANT? He's low key and there's a bit of mystery surrounding GNR: BIG FUCKING DEAL.

Axl knows what he's doing. Once you grasp that, you'll be able to move on from your misconceptions.

What makes you think Axl does not what he is doing? Do you really think the last 15 years were part of some sort of grand plan?

Indeed pretty much any time Axl has talked about his plans: whether to record an industrial album , to record a solo album, to relase chi dem by such and such or at least update the fans if he didn't to realse the 2nd album in 2010 and the third in 2012 etc etc.

Its hard to see how the band isn't being run simply by Axl's capricous whims.

  10. The hilarious thing (well, more like the pathetic thing) about all this hatred of Axl by the Slash fan boys? In your world, Axl is the worst person that ever lived in the world and you blame him for ruining the old band. BUT your beloved Slash has put out 5 albums without Axl. He is in a performing band without Axl. He just put out a solo album without Axl. He just played in the super bowl. YET all you guys can do is hang out at a band's forum that Slash isn't part of.....and talk about Axl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slash hasn't been in GnR in over a decade......yet you people are so obssessed with Axl that you can't stay away from here!!!!!!!

Why don't you spend all your time in the VR section? Why don't you spend your time in a forum for a band that you love?

Bash Axl all you want. Bottom like is you are STILL HERE talking about him!!!!!! So keep bashing him, keep blaming Axl for everything, keep praising everything Slash does......but at the end of the day, you cannot stay away from your Axl obssession.

This always boggled my mind. Fact of the matter is Guns N' Roses are still the best and even better without $la$h . They are obsssed because $la$h will never EVER work with a talented artist like Axl EVER again.

They actually think it's cool to bash Axl.....

And Axl will never work with a talented artist like Slash again. How many guitarplayers did Axl have hired and fired since Slash's departure to replace him?

I really hope you are both wrong cause the are clearly both struggling without each other (and Izzy , Duf n Steve)

  11. boooring. the lack of Rock in that kid is evident.

Check this out, this is Rock!!!

Excellent man keep rocking you got some real skills there!

That don't damn me video is indeed badass...

    ive done that one too

yes this is also excellent....seesh guitarists so competitive!

  12. you're the one who is uneducated because all the conspiracy claims can be disproven scientifically.

and trust me I have looked in to it ;)

“Scientifically” explain what happened to “building 7” oh enlightened one.

Even if it was an inside job, I very much doubt Bush had any idea what was going on.

He'd be tucked up in bed by 9pm while others got on with running the country.

  13. I'm kinda disappointed in this. Sure, I do wanna hear the rest of the Chinese Democracy sessions but...

You've got Ron, DJ, Frank, Tommy, Dizzy, Chris, Fortus, and Axl.

Ron and DJ are excellent, excellent guitarists. Frank is a master of drumming. And you haven't sat down and recorded with them yet? That's a HUGE waste of both Axl's and their talents...

I'm really disappointed but right now I would prefer it if Axl released the Chinese Democracy sessions first...then focused on "what's next" after...if it's even a consideration...

Agreed. What i can't figure out though is why can't the rest of the band write music and have it ready to go for Axl when the CD session stuff gets released?

Exactly. Axl isn't their mother. Absolutely nothing is stopping them from getting in a room to write music. I don't understand why they don't just do it. They don't need axl's blessing to do that.

You don't think that would piss Axl off? If they all got together without him, and start writing music for HIS next album?

but its not HIS album its a GUNS N ROSES album get with the times man

Sweetness surely you are just getting into semantics?

Todays incarnation is Axl's sole vision? Therefore it is a (nu-)Guns n Roses record but equally it's an Axl record?

I mean just look at the recent comments from Ron, some members of the current line up don't even know if they will appear on the next release let alone have any say in its musical direction?

  14. [] Easy going? Check. But easy going to a fault? As in: Lackadaisical stereotyped SoCal attitude? Ok now I'm just being shitty. But his easygoing-ness perhaps contributed to him allowing other parties to represent him who had their own agendas. Axl has alluded to this in the chats.

This is probaly true. However it was Axl's idea to distance himself from slash and the rest of the band even to the point where he travelled seperately to concerts etc. Its not so surprising that chinese whispers ensued?

See? SEE?! THANK YOU LINES&NOSES!! Notice how others hurriedly hijack this thread, afraid of discussing difficult topics? But not you. After my last post notice how they all rushed in to derail the focus of the thread. But I must thank you Lines&Noses, for possessing formidable debate skills and keeping on target. The other Slash fanboys in this thread could learn a thing or two from you. Instead they cupcake, unable to come up with any counterpoints. So, to the topic...

Ha cool I enjoy some decent debate so kudos to you too.

You make a strong point about Axl being separate from the band. There are numerous interviews, from various credible parties, indicating as much. So, completely valid point. As Slash's frustration grew, he became less and less concerned with trying to make the band work. With Axl separating himself, bad vibes festered, and Slash understandably grew weary of the situation, as lack of communication and a lack of a bond among bandmates will doom any band. Not to mention the already insane, hectic, surreal, death-defying previous few years (93 and earlier), which certainly is another factor in all of this, for all parties involved.

[] Talented? Check. Although I've given Slash a lot of shit in this thread, there is no denying his feel for the instrument, and for rock n roll. However, his collaborations with the Black Eyed Peas are nothing short of abominations and bastardizations of the original material. HOW DARE he allow Paradise city to be mutated and degraded so badly.

OK PC at the super bowl was not his finest moment. But one bad performance hardly un does all the great work he did in GnR?

Oh I was being specific about the Paradise City thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyl-XCnkjB0. Yes yes, it's not completely horrid- I was being dramatic. I've liked Cypress Hill since way back. But it was still nonetheless unnecessary. See, here's the deal with the Super Bowl performance too: it's the principle of it. It violates a certain unspoken code. If Slash wants to go around and play with other musicians, hey that's great. But one must be careful who he associates with. I dunno, I just feel like the Black Eyed Peas were exposed for who they really were, and to have him there, partaking in that, it kinda was bittersweet (in that it was nice to see Slash, but not in THAT context, y'know?). If Slash wants to play the Super Bowl, then he should fuckin book Velvet Revolver!

Like I say the whole super bowl thing was not his finest hour. But fair play to slash he is not afraid to experiment and to be honest it seems his collaborations pay off more often than not?

Also when you speak of unwirtten codes you so start to wonder about Axl using the Gnr name but taking the band in such a different direction?

Its fine to try different things with differnt musicians but why use the GnR name? Surely this is much worse than Slash taking one GnR song and "reimagining" it with different musicians.

Having heard Chi Dem its clear Axl did want to take the band in a new direction and given the changes in personel it does seem questionable to keep the name? Like you say its great to see Axl out with there playig but its bitter-sweet because I can't help but wish for the AFD line up.

Again conjecture here but I think Axl tried to push the GnR sound in certain direction instread of letting it evolve natutally. You can see this in the artists he recruited and in interviews where he talks about how he loves industrial music and wants to do an industrial record. Thing is I love GnR and would love to do a GnR record but I can't play or sing a note and so I have to accept this will never happen. In Axl's case the guy has bags of talent and probably had great ideas that untimately he couldn't realise which must have been frustrating as hell.

I also remember when someone in the chats someone asked why there weren't more rockers on the record he said something like you can't force the music. Well I think thats true but I suspect he spent 10 years trying.

[] Work ethic? Mayyyybe. But that point is moot because I don't believe Axl ever questioned his work ethic per say, but as I've pointed out, and as the evidence shows, heroin-using alcoholics are not the most desirable bandmates to have. Axl was able to reign in his own substance issues more so than Slash, imo.

Slash had drug and alcohol problems its no secret, but it seems he was a functioning addict/alcoholic? Axl however does have seem to have mental problems that holds back his productivity?

You look at the amount of songs each has produced as a solo artist VR/or in nu GNR there is no comparison?

Functional addict? I'll give you that. But what was he like back in the day? That's part of the issue here. Some of his behavior and decision making were influenced by the drugs and alcohol. And Axl has openly stated that Slash was getting advice from persons with a negative agenda towards Axl.

As for Axl's mental issues, whatever they may be, I still believe they just amount to a unique case of OCD or something along those lines. Perfectionism with his songs, going on stage late, keeping detailed track of grudges- these are things that are quite possibly the result of some eccentricities he has, sure. But if those things are the result of a neurotransmitter imbalance, I have even more empathy and sympathy for his plight. As far as productivity, certainly questions remain I'll give you that. But there's another side to that. He certainly isn't out to be in the limelight, or rape his fans for money. He gives kick-ass shows, and can still sing. I give him a lot of credit for all that. As for why GNR's output has dipped dramatically, only he can answer that. But I must say that one reason Slash can put out more stuff is that Slash relies on tried and true blues/rock riffs. Now don't get me wrong, I quite liked "Fallen to Pieces" and some of the other songs VR has released. But I think it's harder to craft a record like CD than it is one of VR's records.

The drugs.alcohol may have been an issue but surely this is not specific to slash Izzy, Steve and to a lesser extent duff would all be in the same boat? As for people with negative agendas giving Slash advice again I really feel this was more a result of Axl's insistance of seperating himself from the rest of the band?

As for Axl's mental problems he claims to be bi-polar I believe. This no doubt accounts for some of his erratic behaviour but it catch 22 as it may well account for some of his genius too. Like I say above though I think the real cause of Axl's lack of productivity was that he was trying to force the GnR sound in a direction what just wasn't a natural fit for him.

They will both be haunted by their former glories no matter what they do (that includes reforming). But I honestly believe that the ols chemistry is still there (just listen tot Ghost on Slashes new album (it features Izzy). No one would expect them to produce another AFD, but I really believe they would eclipse anything they have done while apart.

For the record I a a slash fan boy but I am also an Axl fan boy.

Oh don't get me wrong, it would blow everyone's mind if Axl and Slash showed up to a surprise gig somewhere each wearing t shirts like "I hate that motherfucker" or "i'm only doing this so you people shut the fuck up," all the wink wink nudge nudge at the crowd and enjoying playing off the feud they know everyone knows about. As for them getting into the studio together, wow that would be interesting to say the least, on many levels. Me personally, I'm an Adler fanboy first. Haha. I remember very distinctly listening to the UseYourIllusions for the first time, immediately noticing the drums were different- not just the playing, which seemed more basic to me, but also the timbre of the drums. Steve knew how to tune his kit, man, I'm telling you. Matt's a nice guy and all, but godamn he's got the most garbage sounding snare drum ever. Plus he's not as fun to air-drum to. ; ) Anyway, as one final point- you can't have Slash and Axl without Izzy. He was the bridge between the two; he was the anchor from which they both tethered; his creative input is just as important as either of theirs', that is if you're talking about them all creating music together. ...just my opinion of course.

He he I love the thought of seeing thse guys up on stage wearing those t-shirts. I totally agree that Izzy is an essential element so quite is Stevie (and Duff). That's my whole theis there guys were a synerginistic combination that none of them have come close to matching seperately. Just look at the Izzy interview wehere he talks about teh band loosing its sense of swing and nothing workgin after Stevie went. I think its true. No doubt UYI also reflects the internal division that were already simmering in the band. That said there are still really good records.

Its nice to see having talked it through we are pretty much arguing the same side of the coin!

  15. "If we had band photos, then people would say, 'Oh, yeah, they're a band. But we haven't had a fucking real band photo or anything like that! So we are not presenting ourselves to the world as a band even though we are one, and because of that, people, unless they know us or they have been to twenty shows or hung out with us after shows and stuff, they know but the rest of the world is just going to say, 'Alright, all of the famous pictures of GUNS N' ROSES, they have the five guys from the 'Appetite' lineup,' and, yeah, that doesn't help us. (laughs) I feel that we could do more to establish the current band as its own band. It shouldn't be in the shadow of the past."

hate to break it to ya big boy, but that's how its been and that's how it will always be, deal with it or find another band

certainly an uphill climb, that one.

It's hard to see that anything these guys do will ever really allow them to step out of the shadow of the past? Surely Bumble must have known this when he joined such an iconic band?

I realise it must be frustrating for Bumble but he can hardly be surprised? Chi Dem was pretty much written by the time he came on board so was released prior to Ashba joining. So those guys are just up there playing other peoples material? Hardly the way to establish yourself and build up credability as a full member. This is before you consider the baggage of the GnR name and the AFD line up.

  16. check this KID out... does a smashing job of the TWAT solo... I was impressed and thought I'd share

Not played with a lot of emotion ( expression when playing )

    Theres one in every thread..

    LOL!!

  17. Slash is easy going, talented, and has a work ethic. These things Axl cannot stand. But to make matters worse when Slash left GNR he did not fade away. That in Axl's eyes was unforgiveable!

Well it's interesting you would attempt to make a wiseass joke about Slash not fading away, interesting indeed... Remember this: the specter of the other man haunts both of them. Both of them. The ghost of Slash follows Axl everywhere, and likewise, the ghost of Axl follows Slash everywhere. All I have to say is at least Axl isn't working with the Black Eyed faux-artist annoyingly cliched self-magnanimous pretentious Pea fucks. At least Axl isn't an attention whore, much to the chagrin of some of his fans. I can go all day! You wanna bring anything else to the table? I expected more of a fight than this from all you Slash fanboys. I guess I have high standards for epic interwebz debatez because of my videogame messageboard background. You guys are easy. If Slash were a console, and Axl were a console, and this was gamefaQs, there'd be all kinds of facts being slung back n forth. But most of Slash fanboys in this thread just post emotion-driven 'omg-i'm-so-offended-you-asshole' comments, most sorely lacking in evidentiary value.

They will both be haunted by their former glories no matter what they do (that includes reforming). But I honestly believe that the ols chemistry is still there (just listen tot Ghost on Slashes new album (it features Izzy). 18. I actually think it'd be disrespectful to Duff. An original member of the band working as a lowly support act for the new band? BIG TIME disrespect right there.

Its up to Duff? Loaded is only a ide project anyway so I'm not sure he'd turn it down on those grounds.

Its a show I'd love to see though.

  19. I've always preferred the PC and WTTJ riffs over SCOM.

And I agree with Sweetness, Satisfaction is definitely the most overrated Stones song ever.

Agreed. I mean with SCOM I think they mean the intro really, there isn't that much of a riff in that song.

WTTJ would be my call but PC is defintely worthy.

Or as an outside call how about Rocket queen? The riff they play for the "sex scene" is just sensational.

  20. http://www.bestweekever.tv/2011-02-22/your-axl-rose-impression-will-never-be-as-good-as-this-guys/

"Your Axl Rose Impression Will Never Be As Good As This Guy’s

    By Sarah Walker

It was not this Saturday that I myself NAILED “Sweet Child O’ Mine” at my friend’s birthday party. I sounded AWESOME. Everyone who was at the Sly Fox will tell you that I killed it. Everyone. You don’t even need to ask them you can just trust. But this guy. THIS GUY!!

This guy is the best!! He just needs to incorporate some swaying, perhaps a kilt, bandana and a catcher’s chest guard and he’ll be all set. I don’t know if we’ll be able to differentiate between the two."

That really is a rather good impersonation.

Of course can he write and perform live like Axl too? Probably not but then who can?

Also the image is rather far removed from the source material, so even a career as an impersonator may be scuppered. Maybe he could sing while a looki-likey takes to the stage!
