  1. That's weird the show I went to people sang along to Chi dem, SOD, Better.

Same in Hamilton, everyone was singing the new stuff :)

people go to see GnR to hear Jungle, SCOM, NR & KOHD.

I LOVE the new band, and CD is my favorite album.

But do you think people go to see Metallica to hear Death magnetic? Do you think they go to see Judas Priest to hear Nostradamus? Do you think they go to see AC/DC to hear they last album?

No, as great as CD is, the majority will go to hear the old songs.

Reading that people sing along Better, CD or SOD is fucking refreshing!

  2. Are people here insane?

Dizzy is as peripheral as they come. He and Sorum had zero to do with the success of GnR. Their contributions on Illusions were no greater than any others who got recording credits. Come on. It could have been anyone in those two spots.

The legendary Gn'R is Izzy, Duff, Slash, Adler and Axl. It's a fucking shame if Dizzy goes in. A fucking shame.

    You gotta be kidding me.

The why introducing Adler? The guy never wrote or co-wrote a single song/lyrics.

If he goes in, Dizzy should too... and Wes Arkeen!

  3. Like it or not, GnR is known for 4 things

    AFD

Axl Rose (temper tantrums, rants, being a dick sometimes and the greatest Hard Rock singer of all time)

The Dude with the top hat who will forever be the good guy

The long delayed Chinese Democracy (15 years in the making, 12 millions dollars, blahblahblah...)

At least have the new guys introduce the old guys, the old guys play Jungle & SCOM et everybody plays Paradise City.

    The good guy? That's subjective.

I never say that was my opinion.

Just that 95% of the public thinks that way.

  5. Let me first say that Bumblefoot is my favourite musician of all time and the main reason I even follow "Guns n' Roses" at all.

Buckethead, Finck, and Brain are also noteable reasons as to why I love Chinese Democracy.

That being said : do I feel they deserve to be inducted along the original five + Dizzy and Matt ?

    FUCK NO.

Why ? Because what have they done to deserve that ? Is Chinese an influential record ? No. Does their playing will be remembered outside of Primus and NIN fans or guitar freaks in general ? No.

You may think Slash is a one dimensional guitarist. You may think he's washed up. You may think he's a media whore. Fine, he's probably a bit of everything on that list.

He's also one of the most inflential guitarists on the planet. Sure Bumble and Bucket have managed to raise themselve a cult following and they may be very influential in the sphere of dedicated musicians but :

    1) that sphere is nowhere near as big as the RnR listeners sphere

    2) that's not what the RnR HOF is about, musicianship, shred, being innovative etc...It's about being TIMELESS and INFLUENTIAL. NuGnR is none of these things in the grand scheme of rock music.

Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven are all featured on one of the most influential album of all time. They single handedly killed the shittiest era in rock music. 14 years after the breakup, people still mostly think of them when someone says Guns n' Roses. Bumble's Shackler's Revenge solo, as important as it may be for guitarists who are into the twisted side of guitar playing, will never have the same impact as most solos on AFD, because Shackler's is way too contemporary to be timeless and way to unusual to appeal to most RnR listeners.

I love Bumble and Bucket for doing what they do, exploring, and actually injecting some musical theory into their music instead of simply exposing their guts for everyone to see like everybody else, but that's not what the RnR HOF is about. If someday there's a Frank Zappa Award or something, then they should most definitely get it but AFD is what made this band famous and without AFD there wouldn't be CD, or any of the CD tours, and Bumblefoot would still be playing small clubs like he used to ( and I loved these French tours btw ).

This. As much as I love Chinese and the current line-up, the RRHOF induction has got to be about the Appetite line-up. Matt/Dizzy can be there, but the original AFD five are the ones who should get main recognition. Even Steven, if you listen to AFD and then listen to all the shit hair-metal from the time, you can see how Adler's unique style differentiated AFD from all the crap at the time.

How is Steven's playing different from Ratt, Cinderella or Dokken?

Sounds the same to me. Same 80's Hard Rock beats.

Not necessarily a bad thing though, I like it.

  6. I'm sorry, but if you haven't been a part of the band for twenty plus years you don't deserve shit. Slash shouldn't be rewarded for being a little cuntrag and walking out on GNR.

When the GNR reunion happens, CD will need to be stricken from the record and never spoken of again. What an embarrassment to the name. A big LOL to anyone who thinks this charade AKA nuguns deserves even a mention at the HOF...not gonna happen..the REAL gunners created Guns N' Roses and all the timeless classics. No matter how many times nugnr fans want to pretend otherwise.

    I LOL'ed.

Some people really think this gonna happen...

  7. Oh buddy, it's on.

Put the tape in your VCR!

    GUNS N FUCKIN ROSES

Slash and Axl on stage together, it's gonna happen. I'm sure we'll get some legendary pictures and videos out of this whole shindig and probably lots of funny, spiteful, gleeful quotes from the various originals prior to the event. Do you think guys like DJ and Tommy are worried they might lose their jobs if all goes perfectly? I really like Tommy but having Duff back really would be amazing... same for all the other old guys. If I was Gilby I'd hope to get in but would know really I wouldn't. Slash and Axl embracing eachother after years of hate and distance... it's going to be great. Then, reunion tour, new studio album recorded in a few months without bombastic cheesy production, then touring off that as the biggest classic rock band touring and get all their credibility back before retirement.

You may find yourself laughing at what I think is going to happen. You may find yourself in my fantasy world. You'll enjoy it, we have cookies.

    LOL

You take wayyyy to much crack man.

Never gonna happen, I take the bet!

  8. I hope Axl and Slash hug it out on stage and then the original band does a set together. Why? I think it would be a cool social experiment. I've always wondered what the GNR fanbase, pro old and pro nu, would do if it happened. Would the nu fans all of a sudden praise Slash? Would they bash Axl for selling out? Would the old fans all of a sudden praise Axl? Would they bash Slash for selling out?

It would be extremely interesting because for the first time since 1990, the entire GNR universe would be in complete harmony. I'm not sure GNR's fanbase could handle that lol.

As much as I love Nu GnR, I'd hope they play Jungle & SCOM with Slash, Izzy, Duff & Steven together and then play KOHD with the new band alltogether.

Then forget about the old band. Bury it for good.

release CD II and go on the road kicking ass for 3 hours straight.

  9. I have heard a ton of different answers such as...

He was depressed as his mother died? (I heard his mother died, so this could be true)

He cut his hair and didn't want to be seen with short hair? (doubt he would do that)

He had throat surgery? (he sounded fine at RIR 2001)

He had a drug issues? (Possible)

He was upset over Kurt Cobains death? (doesn't make sence really)

So what was the real reason or your thoughts on why he made no public apearances from 1995-2000?

Getting a new band together, writing songs, etc. He mentioned that he had material where he could have just written a "new Appetite" but chose to completely reinvent the wheel so to speak.

If you don't know, Axl's not a very *public* person in that he avoids the media at all costs. So it's not that he was in hiding, but that he was hiding from the media. Or as Axl puts it, there are very few people in the media that want to hear what he wants to say. They only care to spin *rumors* to say what they want to say.

So for us the fans, if Axl avoids the media, then obviously, we will not know what is happening with him. So, it will seem like he is off doing nothing but hiding in his mansion.

Here's a little brief history of the '90s:

    End of 1992-1993

Axl said on the Eddie Trunk radio show that the plan was to do another AFD-like album after the UYI tour ended.

By this, he meant stripped-down and simple songs like those on AFD - not that, there were any intentions to try to duplicate the success of AFD. Just simple rock songs that wouldn't take too long to do and get out to the fans.

This would have been just like the Lies album that GnR put out for the fans - to past time - as GnR worked on their next major studio album: the UYI albums.

But the plans went to the gutter because Slash refused. Why did Slash refused?

As Axl then also stated: Slash does not like the songs on AFD. He only cared for his parts.

In other words, the style of the songs on AFD is not the style of rock music that Slash likes to create - as evident by the kind of music Slash put out post-GnR. None of Slash's post-GnR work sound anything like GnR!

    Slash's Snakepit

At the time, Slash had begun building up his stash of Snakepit songs that he wanted to push as the next GnR album.

But Slash would not allow Axl's or anybody else's creative input in improving the songs he came up with. Axl had to sing to Slash's songs as-is without any tinkering or modifications.

Sound familiar? This is exactly the same reason why Slash hated Libertad, which consequently help lead to the breakup of VR, ie. firing of Scott Weiland. Slash gave into Scott Weiland on Libertad and allowed Scott to have a lot of creative input on Libertad. As Slash stated publicly after Scott Weiland's firing: the next VR singer must sing exactly to the songs he creates - no changes at all!

    Mid-Late 1993

So because Slash and Axl could not reach a comprise on this AFD-like album, GnR thus decided to just put out their cover album, "The Spaghetti Incident". TSI was release November 23, 1993.

TSI was a close as you could get to getting a stripped-down rock album from GnR. Of course, not exactly the same sound and vibe as AFD, but you get the picture.

    Late 1994:

They then followed TSI up by covering the Rolling Stones song, "Sympathy for Devil", as a soundtrack song to the movie, "Interview with a Vampire". This song was released in December of 1994.

One of the reasons why they did this cover song was to try get every one in the band working together again. By this time, GnR did not have a rhythm guitarist, so Axl got his good friend Paul Huge to do rhythm guitar parts. But Slash hated Paul Huge! And of course, Slash could have recorded the rhythm parts himself as well. So instead of bringing the band back together, the tensions between Axl and Slash grew even bigger!

    1995-1997

By this time, the plan for an AFD-like album was long ditched as now the focus was on the next BIG album for GnR.

Slash still insisted on his Snakepit songs being the next GnR album, and still would not allow Axl any creative input. And of course by this time, Axl had already begun putting the early ideas together on what we all now refer to as "Chinese Democracy".

During this time, Axl attempted to pair Slash up with a few other guitarists as well. But nothing worked out. By October of 1996, Slash officially QUIT GnR.

Duff then officially resigned from GnR in August of 1997.

    1998-2000

New band members assembled and began implementing Chinese Democracy.

    For more details, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns_N'_Roses

So as you can see, much of 1993-1997 was spent trying to keep the old band together. Then much of 1997-2000 was spent getting new band members and getting work done on what we now call "Chinese Democracy".

Of course, during this time Axl had many legal problems to deal with. And these legal problems did occupy a lot of Axl's time and energy. But hopefully you can see that Axl was very much focused on GnR.

    Your 1992-1993 bit:

So basically, the reason Axl didn't do anything in the 90s is because of Slash. Got it. You're trying to say Slash didn't want to go back to an AFD style hard rock sound, which is utter bullshit and the only evidence of that is when Axl said "I wanted to do a hard rock album but that couldn't happen" which was so painfully obviously something that he thought of later on as a tactic to make it seem like he wanted to go back to the rock-bluesy sound instead of Slash since public opinion since these events has swayed toward people wanting them to go back to rocking again. Everyone besides Axl say Axl wanted to go down a different direction. You're blind or unaware of the facts if you think Slash didn't want to go back to that sound and the Snakepit albums had songs that were very in line with old GNR the only difference was they were lacking the parts from other members. You say it's evidenced by Slash's work after GNR he didn't want to go back to that sound... Lol dude I really hope no one believes your crap. Suckertrain Blues, Ghost, Dirty Little Thing, Slither..... almost EVERYTHING Slash did after GNR was trying to get into that rock style whereas NOTHING on Chinese Democracy or Silkworms or OMG sound anything like that old rock sound. At all. You guys take everything Axl says and give it more weight than the combined stories of everyone else. Why this is done when Axl talks out of his ass so much is a little delusional. Example from this year: "The reason I go on late every show even to today is because of Slash in 1991". That's not an exact quote but that is exactly what he meant. He then casually thru in that he's always been late but his answers to questions are almost always hard to understand or simply not believable. I actually felt bad for the interviewers who must have been like "wow he's really trying to pin the reason he goes on late still on Slash from 20 years ago" they had to sit thru that and pretend it made sense.

    Late 1994:

For any of you GNR noobs out there that read this guys post you may be convinced Axl was trying to get the band back together and save them by bringing in his good friend Paul Huge. Unfortunately, he conveniently left out the biggest part of this story. What really happened was the band jammed with Paul and Slash and Duff didn't like the guy and didn't want him in the band. The band (not with Paul Huge) then went in to record Sympathy for the Devil (Axl was not there, the guy who says he battles to salvage GNR... who rarely to never showed up to rehearse and write with the band) and laid down their parts. They then waited as Axl came in afterward and did his vocals Axl then decided to add another guitar over top of Slash's guitar parts and not even tell him until he heard the final product. That pissed Slash off, obviously! Axl had become the full on dictator at this point where he always had final say. Slash says this, Matt says this, Duff says this, Gilby said this before he was gone, etc. It was a few more years of Axl not being around yet still demanding complete control combined with nothing getting done because of this that forced the others out of the band.

    1995-1997

The idea that Slash wouldn't let Axl contribute anything is again from JUST Axl. Not Duff, Matt, any producer, any manager, anyone else involved said anything of this. On the other hand, almost EVERYONE involved criticized Axl for the way he ran and controlled things. People around here take his word (looking back he must realize he fucked up so this is sort of a self defense tactic... much like how he said he wanted to do the AFD style album but Slash didn't. Much like how he blames others for why he's late, much like he won't take the blame for ANYTHING that happened with the old band. No one else supports any of these claims).

Gilby was fired by Axl before he even got the chance to write songs with the band. This move was not supported or discussed with the band.

Slash quit because he couldn't work with Axl at this time

Duff quit because Axl was too much like a dictator during this time

    Matt was fired by Axl

    1998-2000

I don't get this view of Axl "trying to keep the old band together". The old band WAS together, they wrote together, jammed together, rehearsed together, still occasionally hung out together, etc. Axl didn't come for any of this or showed up extremely late the odd time he did... after most people were heading home. He wanted complete control and final say... yet he rarely if ever showed up to write with the band.

One thing you did get right was a lot of Axl's time was spent occupied with lawsuits. So much so that when Zack Wylde jammed with GNR Axl had no melodies, no lyrics, no vocals whatsoever. In fact, something occupied Axl's time so much that even when the new band was off and rolling when Robin quit he said he was sick of working on songs titled "instrumental 34" anymore because Axl never or rarely recorded vocals with melodies, lyrics, etc.

This is all fact. Axl's view is of course different, what I posted is simply the combined views of everyone else who was involved throughout the years besides Axl.

    Yeah, right...

Slash NEVER did anything wrong, it's ALL AXL's fault.

Slash is the almighty savior of RnR music, blahblahblah...

It's amazing how both sides wear blindfolds...

I believe Axl's words. Slash wanted to make HIS record under the GnR name without any other member involved.

I also think Axl mentioned that it was already the case during the UYI recoding process, that Slash wanted the record to contain only his songs...

  10. BBA (for Bring Back Adler I guess) is one of the biggest cupcake/reunionist (not that all reunionists are cupcakes, because at least they usually post in the right section).

he keeps making threads about how the new band "sucks", that Axl "stole" the GNR name, that BBF does not have "the Slash feel" when playing the solos...

He gets banned endlessly, but keeps coming back.

the legend says he holds 1/14th of all the accounts created under this board (jk)
