Okay, now that you've had your little tantrum can you please go back to assessing cock sizes so we can have a serious discussion here? Thanks.

Once I said that Guthrie Govan is better than The Beatles guys put together.

In my opinion this is a fair assessment.

  2. What's the most avant-garde of his albums?

Probably "Island of lost minds", "Cuckoo clocks of hell", or "Kaleidoscalp". All three are quite challenging listens though, may take some time to appreciate.

  3. I'd probably go back to Bucketheadland? or something with Robot in the title. I'm a youtube fan so far. Is there anything as good as Mr Bungle's second album?

I'd steer clear of Bucketheadland or Giant Robot initially. Maybe something more straight-ahead-rock would be best to start with, like "Decoding the Tomb of Bansheebot", "Peppers Ghost", first half of "Crime Slunk Scene" or similar. The studio versions of these can be found on youtube, but as always the sound quality is unacceptable imo, but it will give you a taste. For a more laid back style try "Population Override", "Dragons of Eden", or "Colma".

Incidentally, "Dragons of Eden" features Brain on drums throughout.

The place to get hold of all of these is: www.tdrsmusic.com

    They'll get you started

  4. People have been conditioned to believe that Hendrix is so much better than guys like Bucket, through popular culture. Unless one has studied the music of each artist in depth, and with an open mind, they have no leg to stand on with this argument.

  5. It was like having Hendrix in a band with Axl.

    The difference is

Hendrix was years ahead of his time, Buckethead Is Lightyears ahead of his time.

the solos might change on some songs on Cd2 , but let it be known, the core of most , if not all the songs on Cd2 will be all Buckets

NEVER put Hendrix and Buckethead in the same sentence again, little kid. You're only making a fool of yourself.

You're the one making a fool of yourself, not gunns5.

  6. ^your in the Buckethead thread buddy, you dont have to defend Ron, we all love him as well, its not a competition

I just wanted to post the picture because I thought it was awesome. haha

How have the mods not moved this thread out of this section yet? ha

Probably because it's long overdue after years of people getting banned for showing respect for Bucket.

  7. Guns did wonders for Bucket, he wouldnt be on guitar hero had he not been in Guns, likewise Bumble wouldnt be on rock band either.

Bucket got on guitar hero due to one fan's persistent hard work. Had nothing to do with GNR, nothing at all.

    Really? Wow thats cool.

But how did the fan become a fan. :tongue2:

Probably the same way Axl became a fan. i.e. heard his music, and liked it.

  8. Guns did wonders for Bucket, he wouldnt be on guitar hero had he not been in Guns, likewise Bumble wouldnt be on rock band either.

Bucket got on guitar hero due to one fan's persistent hard work. Had nothing to do with GNR, nothing at all.

  9. Buckethead actually has a lot of street cred with the kids...i know people that are like 20 that think he is amazing, could care less about GN'R new or old, so he's no joke

There's a whole sub culture of 14 year olds on youtube, covering Buckethead's tunes. These kids are rapidly turning into quality guitarists.

  10. Little Trivia Fact :

Did you guys know that Buckethead asked Ron to feature and sing on one of his 2005 release ( probably "Enter The Chicken" ) ?

    ( Yes, it's true )

Man that would have been cool. Why didn't it eventuate? Do you know?

  11. Ron's "Don Wardo Pimpwagon" at Freak Guitar Camp :

I love these vids. The Freak Guitar Camp is on my 'must do' list.

Anyway, as you said they're both guitar gods, so why are we all arguing?

Back on topic. CDlove - you're welcome to start a thread in defense of Ron if you feel the need.

  12. ( he does not venture into semi-atonal music )

Good observation. Bucket's music is generally completely diatonic or completely atonal. That said, he's been going semi-atonal lately, some parts of 'dragons of eden' come to mind.

  13. Lol, in only missing 4 more Buckethead albums(one is Population Override, I still need a hard disk of that). So of the Ron albums, name your top 3 and why because I do not believe you one bit. You would be the second person I ran into on this forum with Hermit(Glow101 is the other).

If you count collaboration albums, you're missing way more than 4 dude, like I said, there's around 80 more you haven't heard.

I don't really get off on Ron's solo stuff, but my favorite 3 are Abnormal, 911, and Hands. As for Hermit, I don't own an official copy but have downloaded it in the past. It didn't do anything for me so I got rid of it.

edit: scratch that 80 figure. Just did a count of his discography: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckethead_discography

If you consider ISOT as being 13 albums, that brings the total amount of albums that Bucket has been involved with to 175. Yes one hundred and seventy five albums. You've heard less than a quarter. Seeing as his best stuff (IMHO) is the collaborations, you've got some listening to do :)

What collabs have you heard besides Praxis?

  14. I own 41 Buckethead albums, all of which I bought(I'm including Praxis stuff too).

That only leaves about 80 more albums that you haven't heard.

Yes I've heard all of Ron's stuff.

You're losing this argument dude :)

  15. Okay let me point this out from a guitarists view, finger picking all 3 fingers(plus pick) with sweeps. No Bucket cannot match this in technical ability.

    nice yet unlistenable.

See the difference is, Bucket uses his gifts for the good of the listener:

I never said which one is more listenable, I listen to Bucket more often them Bumble, but Ron is the better guitarist.

Bucket's the better overall guitarist, Ron's a good technician. That is all.

How much of Rons solo stuff have you heard? Download an album called Adventures of Bumblefoot, it's an instramental album. Believe me, Rons is every bit as good in terms of "Writing" and "Feeling" and much more so in technical abilty that Bucket....that makes him a better guitarist.

I've heard all of Ron's solo stuff and all of Bucket's, and I agree with moreblack.

How much Bucket stuff have you heard?

  16. Why do people keep posting Jordan anyway? It's not like it's Bucket's best piece, not even close.

    Try this;

I suggest you go and re-read post #16.

  17. In technical ability Rons playing is many times over Buckets.

that is but one part of the things that makes a guitarist.

Bucket's phrasing and taste in notes is many leagues above Ron's.

    Exactly.

Technique wise, there are things that Ron does that Bucket can't, and things that Bucket does that Ron can't.
