  1. Some old dude with too much time on his hands spent countless hours determining every vocal syllable sound on the cellphone clip, then spliced together re-tuned Axl vocals primarily from the CD stems to make it seem like Axl was singing it. The instrumental was done much the same way, except the orchestra, which included old concert intro soundbytes overlayed with recreations from various other sound generators like FL Studio. Then, he replaced the Finck solo from the clip with some sweet Buckethead wankery (Track 3 of 2007's Cyborg Slunks).
  2. This isn't to say Bucket didn't have some presence on the recording, but I'd bet a bucket of chicken that the solo on the cellphone clip was Robin.
  3. Very much so, but with medium-to-low expectations for the placement accuracy of the blurry, deformed and mutilated puzzle pieces I forced together. I'm not nearly as interested in the lyrics as much as I am curious about the vocal melody. Thanks, and I totally forgot about Danube - wonder if I still... yep. Wow, not bad. You're absolutely right about people setting themselves up for disappointment, and I hope they don't. Strangely, if it is completely different than I expect, it won't bug me at all.
  4. Me too, ZoSo. Me too. Funny, f'ing Silkworms from Rio '01 is the track that got me interested in editing audio. I probably put more effort into that than any other mix over the years, starting way back in 2002-ish.
  5. Hello there, and no sweat about words of any type. All points of view about my frustrating (and now ancient) work are welcomed. I especially appreciate those that are specific with constructive critique. No lie though, the occasional pats on the back are also quite comforting. My version required a ton of imagination and "artistic" license, so those that think it is wrong are 100% correct.
  6. There were a few different ones. I think I found 3 or 4, and concluded that there was overlapping of the clips. In total, I figured we had like 4 minutes of song orchestration given to us in various snippets.
  7. This is some great discussion and speculation. Regarding whether or not the recreation was fantasy, I suppose in a sense it at least partially was. Maybe like apophenia/pareidolia (not sure if that's the right way to describe it). But, since we already knew way back then that there was an unreleased tune about child abuse, and since (among other instances) I thought I'd heard the word "child" sung in the screaming section at least once......well, who knows? Anyway, like I said before, my work on that clip was not complete, and a number of things on that version were intentionally seasoned with Buckethead material that IS NOT part of the cell clip (including the replaced solo). When it was used in a trade and subsequently leaked, I quit working on it, and pretty much quit working on anything related to GNR.
  8. I'm a HUGE fan of freedom of speech, as long as it isn't intentionally deceptive. I can even handle maliciousness despite having a much greater appreciation for constructive criticism. If my attempted re-creation of that cellphone clip truly is - or ends up proven to be - raw sewage, that's totally fine. I'm just glad some people appreciated the immense effort that went into creating the sewage, which was never even intended for public consumption.
  9. Hey there ZoSo. Maybe a correction...... I don't recall saying I was pretty sure of the lyrics, but I do apologize if that happened. I seem to remember thinking that it was 50% correct at best. All that could really be done at the time was identify vowel sounds and "sssss" sounds". So, decyphering the lyrics was like turning "l l l l l l l l l l l" into "LITTLE HILL" (Fringe tv show reference). That said, I think the vocal melody is pretty close to right. Please don't kill me if that turns out to be false.
