  1. So now Dizzy is the end all be all,, wasnt he torn to shit for saying this is the real Guns...

When he says he doesn't know the answer, why shouldn't that answer be trusted? Not a good comparison there.

So when Axl says we are working it out with the label, thats not good enough?

C'mon man. Given his track record, no, it is not good enough.

You do realise all the shit he went through to get his band to where it is again. Wether you like it or not, hes got other shit goin on besides making a record.

Not being sarcastic - but what is all the other "shit" he has going on that is preventing him from making a record? Specifically things that all bands don't go through?

And what is all the "shit" he had to go through to put his band together (that wasn't directly HIS fault)?

Volcano............haven't pretty much all the band members had interviews where they said they didn't know when a new record might come out? That isn't a band, that's an owner with employees.

Why are all other bands able to put out albums, but it is such a cluster with GnR?

Username and Classic have the best posts in this topic.

Other bands? let's talk about another band.

    Aerosmith.

Last album of original material "Just Push Play" 2001

Next album "Music from another dimension" 2012

11 years in between albums and I did not hear 1 single fan bitch about it.

I'm a fan and I was bitching about it. It was live album after greatest hits album after cover album after greatest hits album etc...

They also had more publicised reasons for the delays. Joe Perry's knee surgery. Tom Hamilton's cancer. ST's broken shoulder and foot operations.

At the least the greatest hits albums gave you a couple new songs while you waited though.

All we can do is speculate about GNR's delay in releasing more music because they are so secretive.

  2. I really feel like an ass for asking this again, but can someone tell me who Fernando is? Again, I am a big GnR fun but not to the extent that I know the in's and out's of the management team.

Yea he is part of management. I'm not sure if he is THE manager. His mom is Beta and she is part of management as well. The family manages the band but not sure if any one in particular holds the title "manager".

  3. That sucks man. I hope you get something worked out. I felt the same disappointment after waiting hours in the cold in Toronto to meet Axl. Fernando came out and collected our (the fans) stuff we were hoping to get signed and said he'd get Axl to sign it all and we could pick it up in the next couple of days. Nothing ever got signed. Then you wonder if Axl even knew about the stuff but it sucked either way to get your hopes up that you've got this really cool thing - a mic or Axl's autograph - and then not.

  4. - Guns: release Chinese Democracy in 2008

Metallica: release Death Magnetic in 2008 earlier in the year BEFORE Chinese

    - Guns: tour in support of Chinese Democracy since 2009 with a break in 2011 before US tour

    - Metallica: have toured virtually endlessly since 2008

    - Guns: fans are pushing for Axl and the band to release the next album now.

Metallica: they are nowhere near ready to release their next album and have only begun to write.

    - Guns: fans complain no new songs are being played

Metallica: play all the old hits. This past weekend at the Orion festival ZERO Death Magnetic songs were played

I just don't understand the GNR fans logic with this double standard

This is such a twisted, warped, horrible comparison.

First of all - Metallica actually gives a shit about their fans, and is doing a whole bunch of other shit besides touring.

They have released new music since Death Magnetic. The Lou Reed album (like it or not) and the Beyond Magnetic EP.

They are also doing their own festival, doing exciting things live such as adding in the Snakepit to their live shows and soon using the biggest stage they've ever used for some Mexico shows with a huge production. They are also filming a movie.

On top of that, their setlists are way more entertaining, change every night (there hasn't been a repeating setlist since 2004), and they handpick each setlist so that the give fans in each city a unique experience from last time. I could seriously go on forever....facefuckingpalm

Are you really making this ridiculous comparison?

Btw, I was at Orion festival. They played To Hell And Back, a song from Beyond Magnetic which was released after Death Magnetic.

Thread should have ended with this post.

Totally. I prefer GNR to Metallica - slightly - but there is no question Metallica has given fans far more than GNR have in the last few years. If you can't see this you're crazy.

  5. It makes it really difficult to plan to see a show the way they have been announcing dates, only a couple at a time. I haven't counted so maybe at this point they already announced the full 30 shows but I don't want to make travel and accomodation plans to see them if they are going to play in my city. Would be nice to know if Canada is getting more dates. Saskatoon and or Regina would be good. I'd even travel to Alberta or Manitoba.

  6. In my defense I did say it was my opinion they blow... you say they're equal which is cool man, just don't say its pointless, cos its an opinion

I recognise that this topic went downhill fast but being fair to the OP the first post said he'd vote Metallica. Then he got "lolmetal" and "they blow". Not exactly constructive. Looks like he held his own in the nonsense department after his first post though...

  7. I'd definitely want to meet him. I look up to him as a musician and think he's the best. So a handshake and an autograph and hopefully a little of his greatness transfers lol

I actually thought I'd meet him earlier in 2010 in Toronto. I came across a hotel with a bunch of people with Gnr stuff signed before the show. The band members had left for the show and signed stuff but Axl was still there (if anyone remembers the Toronto show was quite late-started around 11:30pm I think). So I hung out hoping to catch a quick meeting and autograph as well. In the end Fernando came out and told us that they were running too late for Axl to stop but arranged for the hotel concierge to take all the loot to be autographed and that Axl would sign it in his room some time over the weekend for us to pick up later.

I thought that was awesome but in the end nothing got signed and it was quite disappointing.

My guess would be that Axl didn't know the stuff was there but on the other hand the people waiting turned out to be "autograph hunters" rather than fans. Maybe Fernando could tell and told Axl not to bother! Though the staff was quite opposed to us leaving anything and Fernando made them give in.

Those autograph hunters were a bunch of wieners. Just trying to sell a bunch of stuff on ebay.

I am pretty jealous of the lucky stories I've read on here about meeting Axl in 2010 in Canada! Sounds like he was pretty cool!

  8. He's a pretty creative guy but I prefer Richard

Why do people always praise Richard? He hasn't really played on much GN'R wise, and as far as I know hasn't written a single song that's been released. Touring is one thing but IMO the studio is the real test. Some of the best (new) GN'R compositions were co-written by or had imput from Paul.

Good point. However the SOD outro solo is ingenious and there's a studio version of the 007 theme, great stuff. I prefer Richard's tone too.

But yeah Paul did some brilliant writing too. I wish there was more information available on him and what exact parts he played or came up with.

Me too. One thing I've always disliked about Guns (and a lot of other rock bands) is that they're never that clear on who came up with what part in a song.

For example, let's take the Stones--The song Lady Jane. Now that song is dominated by Brian Jones on the dulcimer and Nicky Hopkins on harpsichord, yet the song is attributed to "Jagger/Richards"--I'm pretty certain that Keith didn't write Brian's dulcimer parts or Nicky's harpsichord parts. Or the song "Sway"--A song that doesn't even include Keith Richards and features an amazing solo by Mick Taylor--is attributed to Jagger/Richards.

Look at TWAT. I doubt Axl or Paul wrote Bucket's solo, yet only Axl and Paul get a songwriting credit for it.

I wish credits would be really concise, almost obsessively so, telling us who wrote and plays exactly what part. I want to be able to listen to GN'R songs be built from the bottom up--the anatomy of a song.

I think you mean you wish they were not so concise. Concise means brief and to the point. I agree though, I find it really interesting to know who wrote what but that would be really long-winded to note in the album sleeve.

Just by convention, guitar solos do not usually warrant songwriting credits. Nor do drum/bass parts. Typically someone would need to contribute significantly to chord progression, arrangement, lyrics, melodies (vocal) or even guitar riffs.

Some bands prearrange a percentage split though and just say "written by (insert group name)". Those ones are the worst to figure out who really wrote what!

  9. what about the CD era shit that we havent heard? is that going to be there? going to be really disappointing if it isn't.

AGREED, I want to hear more songs from that era, than something that is quickly written/recorded and pumped out by the current band

I want to hear it as much as you but come on, CD fell flat. The whole avant-garde style of music really had no shot at being successful and I would rather Guns N Roses be relevant and successful then not. What they need is palpable music. You don't have to "sell out" to make music that people will enjoy. I think Darren's capable of bringing a much more palpable, melodically conscious sound to this band and I for one, would like to hear it.

Plus, as I've said a billion times, CD era music is ancient. None of it will sound relevant or BE relevant. I say release that shit via itunes under the name "CD sessions" or something and write an entirely new record with the new band and release it fresh.

I don't think "palpable" means what you think it means. To palpate means to physically touch. Maybe you mean palatable. :)

  10. Anyone end up with any extras they'd like to sell? I had such long drives after the shows I didn't fight at the merch booth tables. Plus in the past I've just gone one ebay to pick up the tour shirts I liked and saved some money!

Haven't been able to find anything at all on ebay though so thought I'd try here. I actually went to 3 of the shows so I'm regretting not getting one.

Any design would be good so long as it had the Canadian dates on it. I'd be looking for a size S or M.

    Thanks :)
