  1. I've seen the first season. It isn't - trust me. ;)

I liked the Sopranos but The Wire is much better plotted imho. The Sopranos is more entertaining than The Wire I'll concede...

Nope Keanu Reeves is better. Noone can do the keanu look like he can

Reeves is a plank of wood that I enjoy watching.

  2. Wasn't Strange Days directed by Katherine Bigelow who did Point Break?

    Indeed it was.

The screenplay was also written by her ex husband James Cameron who had a hand in producing her movies.

I thought there were lots of cool stuff about Strange Days. The POV shots were groundbreaking, the cinematography was top notch, and it had two of my favorite character actors in it: Sizemore & Michael Wincott. That said, the story kicked in and out for me, and I really lost interest at the ending. But I appreciate it because I can feel that Cameron touch, he had a big role shaping the movie.

Strange Days was a very stylish movie. Ralph Fiennes is the man. I think Kathryn Bigelow had a lot of visual flair and the story was intriguing. The actual film is pretty decent, the plot doesn't really work but it's all about the visuals. I was a big fan of the soundtrack for this movie. Great music.

  3. Just watched Die Hard and Die hard 2 straight after eachother and damn they are cool. Die Hard 3 later tonight and Die Hard 4.0 tommorow.

In rank order of my preference:

    1. Die Hard

    2. Die Hard with a Vengeance

    3. Live Free or Die Hard

    4. Die Hard 2: Die Harder

I would switch Die hard 4 and Die Hard 2 but pretty much anyone would agree Die Hard 1 and 3 are the good films in the franchise. Both 2 and 4 are weak..but for me 2 has more repeat value. It also feels more like a die hard film than Die Hard 4...

  4. Personally, I think most of Michael Jackson's fan-base have given him the benefit of the doubt regarding the allegations that have followed him for the past ten years. There's no plot or conspiracy relative to his fall from grace in terms of musical expectations. In actuality, I argue that his career has suffered on the charts simply because he stopped making dance-orientated records. When Billie Jean and Smooth Criminal were replaced by Earth Song and The Lost Children, fans were disillusioned. They did not want to listen to an artist who redefined the notion of pop music, cry endlessly about helpless orphans, the media's witch-hunt against him, or what he, as a Christ-like martyr, is going to do to heal the world. They want a groove they can dance to; a beat that will destroy their sound system; a voice that they remember. They want Michael Jackson as the badass steppin' machine he once was. This nonsense of working with Prince and using rappers to revive his career is not going to work..

What Jackson needs to do is collaborate with a contemporary producer that can tap into those deeply loved 80's elements. Timbaland is the obvious choice, as his production on FutureSex/LoveSounds parallels that of Off The Wall and Thriller. When Jackson ceases to be the Man in the Mirror and puts his fedora back on, the world will be at his feet once again. Unfortunately, I don't think he has the capacity to realize how easy his comeback can be, which is why he has released nothing but "Best Of" albums for the past 7 years..

Great post. Much of the songs on Justin Timberlake's first album was comprised of jackson-rejects. We all know what a big hit that album turned out to be.

Timbaland would be a great producer for MJ to hook up with. I loved his contributions to Nelly Furtado's album "Loose"...

  5. Wes Anderson seems to be an acquired taste.

He does seem mildly overrated. I didn't think Rushmore or The Royal Tenenbaums were particularly worthy of their reputations, but he's good at writing understated humor with a certain sense of irony. If anything, he provides a nice antidote to the traditional Hollywood comedy..

    -Kickingthehabit

I think the problem with Wes Anderson is that so many indie kids hype him up as a "brilliant director" - when he's really not.

Rushmore was funny, Royal Tenenbaums was amusing, Life Aquatic was interesting - and I like the work he's done - but he's not some kind of revelatory wonder. And, frankly, his style is starting to become a bit repetitive - he needs to try some new stuff. I like his films so far, but he's basically copying quirky French cinema and indie kids are eating it up. I know one guy who's obsessed with his work and thinks he's astounding. I just think he's good, but overrated.

Ahh indie film snobs...say no more. I liked Rushmore, but with Royal Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic...my eyes began to glaze over.

KTH, you aren't kidding...his humor sure is of the understated variety. I see what his appeal is but I suppose if I want that kind of ironic quirky comedy I'll just turn to John Waters' old films...

Have you guys seen The Darjeeling limited? I know Angelica has probably.... :D Is it worth checking out?

  6. MJ needs to quit working with clowns like Akorn and Will I Am and get back in the studio with Quincy Jones and Dr Dre (I think Dre could come up with the right beats for MJ).

Quincy wouldn't touch MJ with a barge pole. Those days are over man. He keeps thinking that the only way to revitalize his career is to hook up with the hottest producer of the minute. He should just focus on putting out an honest record without 10 million dollars worth of production bells and whistles...

  7. I actually think Invincible was a big step up from his '90s work - The production was spectacular, and lyrically he was much less paranoid than on either Dangerous or HIStory (his weakest albums IMO).

Off the Wall and Thriller though... man, perfect albums. Can't decide which one's better.

Thank you. Invincible deserves some credit. It's not his strongest effort obviously, but it's still a damn good album. I'm hoping his new album is awesome.

there's too much hip hop influence on his new stuff though...I wish he'd go back to his classic r&b style...

  8. Dangerous was a damn good album, 1/2 of that album are the producer's songs which date it but the other half which is Michael's own work is awesome. Everything after Dangerous wasn't that great but Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, and Dangerous were excellent albums.

It's a shame what happened to him...like Axl....the power and fame went to his head. His problem...once again like Axl...is that he keeps overproducing his records instead of going with a stripped down organic sound. His latter albums sound soulless because of this.

  9. what is so GREAT about there will be blood? please, enlighten me people.

Paul Thomas Anderson & Daniel Day Lewis.

There are 3 filmmakers I will never understand the mountain of hype for. PTA, Wes Anderson, and Paul Greengrass. They are technically proficient and clearly seem to have a very loyal and ardent fanbase...but none of their films have really appealed to me...I liked most of PTA's films and Greengrass' but Wes Anderson seems to be an acquired taste...

    Uwe Bowl? :rofl-lol:

Love the guy. Can't wait for his next dtv opus... :D

  11. i think i got halfway through michael clayton and just got bored. never really understand what was going on and that kid and that mental case, what was all that about? i'm willing to give it another go though. does it get better?

All you need to know is some big company that fucked over hundreds of people with their product hire a law firm to represent them over a lawsuit. This law firm's lead attorney flips his gourd and starts compiling evidence to hand over to the plaintiff's side. Clooney is the fixer/bagman that tries to get Tom Wilkinson's head out of his ass so that he can do his job of defending this company. Hijinks ensue when Tom doesn't play ball.

To answer your question, no it doesn't get better. Go watch The Firm, atleast that's entertaining.

  12. Just saw American Gangster. I love Ridley and Denzel but I don't see what all the hype behind this movie was about.

I saw Michael Clayton before it....another meh.

I hope no country for old men and there will be blood turn out better.

American Gangster is good, not great. The best thing about it is Rusell, IMO.

    Clayton is totally meh.

Those two, especially There Will Be Blood, are excellent.

Cool, I'm looking forward to checking them out in that case...

I still can't believe Tilda Swinton won an oscar for her role in Michael Clayton. She had maybe 10 minutes of screen time total... Not to mention George Clooney was nominated for an oscar...for playing himself yet again.

    Eh...

  14. Who here thinks, if they took their time, and did it right, that a Rambo game would be awesome!

I think it could be done and be near perfect if they took their time and didn't rush to get it out.

Metal Gear Solid mixed with a dose of Duke Nukem?
