  1. It's something I kinda wondered about too. Facially, there's a definite resemblance.

It's the same thing that kinda bugs me about DJ's Slash doppelganger look. Before anyone gets all riled up, I enjoyed CD, enjoy the new band and they're both very good guitarists; but it does seem kinda disingenuous for Axl to be calling his band Guns N' Roses and have what seems to be Izzy and Slash lookalikes performing alongside him. I'm sure there are other guitarists that would have fit the bill that wouldn't cause this problem. But then Axl and a certain subset of his fanbase wouldn't get to whine about how he's being persecuted over his choice of bandmates, which sometimes comes off as more important to him/them.

Plus Frank Ferrer is a dead ringer for Steven Adler :P

So when Axl had Paul Tobias (who looks nothing Izzy or Gilby) and Buckethead (who looks nothing like Slash) or BBF (who looks nothing like Slash) was he trying to have Slash and Izzy lookalikes alongside him to be disingenuous?

Is there nothing Axl won't get criticized for on this forum?

This is why I led the point with "before everyone gets all riled up...". But since you skipped right past that, guess who I consider to be part of the certain subset of fans I mentioned.

For the record, I agree that Paul, Bucket and Ron look nothing like Slash or Izzy. Which is completely irrelevant to the point that DJ and Richard DO, but I'm guessing you know that. If Slash hired a redhead in a kilt to be his singer, I'm sure you'd be on that like a fat kid on candy.

And if they do, so what? You think it's intentional?

I think the question bears asking. Like I said in my original post, both are very talented guitarists but there a ton of those currently roaming the planet who don't resemble those two and where it wouldn't be an issue. There's already enough confusion/negativity surrounding the name of the band. It seems like it would be easier not to have what could be construed as two lookalikes from the original lineup playing alongside Axl. But then certain people wouldn't get to whine about Axl being "unfairly criticized" or what have you.

Not everyone who asks a question where the answer could reflect negatively on Axl is trying to persecute him.

  4. 'A rose is still a rose'

'He's funny, he's polite and he's sweet. Legendary rocker and notoriously media-shy Axl Rose in an exclusive chat with tabloid! reveals why the band has stood the test of time'

It reads like The Axl Rose Show. It's no longer Guns N'Roses, it's Axl Rose and a band. Writing 'why the band has stood the test of time' is incorrect. Maybe it should have read 'why the brand as stood the test of time' :xmassrudolph:

Either way, it's all about Axl Rose these days.

Some people... They have a chat with Axl Rose... Of course they would talk about Axl? Who do you expect?

Admittedly it is a little funny to say "the band has stood the test of time" given the amount of revolving door musicians. Perhaps saying "the music has stood the test of time" would be more appropriate.

  5. I wouldn't call Catcher, This I Love, Madagascar or If The World angry.

Perhaps not coming out of anger, but depression and loneliness. Outside of Sweet Child, I can't think of a song off the top of my head Axl's written that's come from a positive place. It could be that he chooses to channel his negative energy into music and deal with it that way, or it could be that he's a very sad and bitter soul.

  6. I was remembering the halcyon days of the old GNR email list run by Jeff Boerio. Back in those dark days, that's what introduced me to GNR bootlegs and things I hadn't heard from the band that weren't on major commercial releases. Now that I'm older and crankier, I really miss the discussions and the people involved. Is there anyone else that was a member of that list that posts here? Or anyone that knows whatever happened to people like Jeff, Linda Scott, Kirk Thomas or anyone else that belonged to the list? Jarmo doesn't count, we all know what happened to him :)

I apologize if this is in the wrong section, I didn't know where to put it.

  7. I've seen it alluded to in a couple of threads, but is there anything definitive on whether or not Axl turned in an album that was rejected by Geffen/Interscope/Universal in '99? It seems like an odd rumour that won't die, as I can't see the label wanting to further piss off one of their most succesful (and volatile) acts. Especially since they'd been waiting for a new album with the GNR name on it for four years (at that point).

The only reason the story continues to intrigue me is that in '99 there seemed to be some momentum going with "Oh My God" appearing on End of Days. I know that Goldstein later fell on his sword and took the heat for releasing a "demo" (my note: HA!) and it seems like after the momentum stalled, Freese and Howerdel jumped and formed A Perfect Circle, which featured music that didn't seem too different from what they were rumoured to be working on at the time with Axl & co.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

  8. I've lurked here for an awful long time and would like to get involved in the conversations more but it seems like the same few posters choose to turn every topic into Axl vs. Slash. I have no interest in reading the same arguments between the same people over and over again.

On other boards, there is an option to block posts from individual posters. Is this option available here? It would make the board a lot easier to read and may encourage more discussion from those who have decided posting isn't worth the trouble when the same names start shouting others down.

    Anyways, just an ask.

PS - Who would have thought the old Jeff Boerio list would be the high water mark for rational and fun GNR discussion?

  9. To those saying it'll be a short show.....GNR have never paid fines for going long before? Come on now. "Curfew" doesn't mean the cops start showing up and arresting people. Think rationally.

    No, they get fined.

And the other band members may not want to be slapped with a fine.

Which is actually what I said before. Being that band members are on salary now, I'm sure it's less of an issue than in the UYI days. But the main point is that they are there and kicking ass.
