  1. I would love to see The Cult and GNR together in the States. I never miss The Cult when they come to the Twin Cities area. They are just a great live band. Ian actually bitched that the club they played at last time was too nice for rock. Fun stuff. Faith No More is another favorite. I saw them open for GNR and Metallica back in the day, but I'd love to see them again.

  2. Does it matter? Honestly, I don't know why most bands make videos. Is MTV going to play it at 3:58 am in between reality shows? I'd enjoy seeing it as a fan and all, but it seems like a waste of time and energy, at least as far as the U.S. is concerned.

  3. He still reads these boards. It must be disheartening to put everything you have into a performance just to have armchair quarterbacks like ourselves dissect it like a science project instead of just enjoying it.

I agree, especially when a lot of the performances we critique are Youtube clips. Obviously, it's our right as fans to criticize, comment, etc., but I really don't get into savaging Youtube clips simply because it's not meant to be a recorded performance. I went to one of the Motley Crue shows in Las Vegas and it sounded great live. I recorded a couple of songs with my phone and Vince Neil sounded awful (no surprise). Had I only viewed the phone footage online, I would have assumed that it was a lousy show, but I know otherwise having been in attendance. Anyway, I'm not criticizing anyone for overanalyzing or anything like that. Just saw the comment and thought I'd chime in.

  4. As much as I would love to hear new music, I'd also settle for not having to go to this shit-fest looking movie in order to hear it. Hopefully it plays during the credits and I can time it so that I can go to a good movie and then sneak in during the credits to hear the song if it turns out to be GNR.

  5. Okay, I'll bite on the list even though I normally avoid this type of subjective nonsense from Rolling Stone. WTF is so unique about Eddie Vedder's voice? I'm not trying to knock the guy, but I don't consider it unique in any way. I would have put Layne Staley high on this list along with Axl and certainly both men long before basic baritone Vedder.

  6. After serving as the host for last week's Zakk Wylde roast, Sharon Osbourne was asked which metal figure she'd like to roast next. "I think Axl Rose, and I’m the woman to fuck him," she told Rolling Stone.

I don't know if Axl would be game, but it would be cool if he let his guard down and allowed his rock peers have some fun at his expense. In old lineup news, Duff was one of the roasters for Wylde. My apologies if this has already been posted.

  7. "My client may have been drinking Nighttrain on the night in question, but if you think he committed this crime then You're Crazy. It's So Easy to see why he told me that he felt the cops were 'Out ta Get Me.' My client opted to Move to the City from Down on the Farm in hopes that this would become his very own Paradise City. He does not lead a Reckless Life, as he still keeps in touch with Mama Kin. My client does not believe that Anything Goes. He is simply one of the Nice Boys who deserves Better.

"Don't Cry for my client, yet know that he has been left feeling Estranged and even Scraped by these legal proceedings. 14 Years probation would be So Fine in this case, as he is Sorry for his actions. Don't judge my client based on his attire of Black Leather and whatever Attitude you feels as though he may have. Is he a Prostitute? No. Did he hide money from the IRS? No. Did he attempt to escape the country by fleeing to Madagascar? No. If the World has any justice, you will honor my client's request of 'Set Me Free.' Um, we'd like to remove that last line from the record. Surely one of you jury members can relate to what I'm saying." - Attorney desperately going for a hung jury and staring at Axl throughout his closing argument.

  8. I hope he likes Patience because that's what the Republicans never showed. He was months into his first term and they were already complaining the the hadn't solved all of the budget issues. It really was amazing. Of course, the Democrats would have done the same if it had been a Republican president. It's all a big power game. Anyway, the weak rant from this non-partisan voter is now complete.

  9. Much respect for Bumble. It broke my heart to hear about the pain he was dealing with and his concerns about his family while he was away (and I didn't even see the video). I respect the way he gutted through the tour, and I commend him for being so fan friendly. I had my reservations about this addition to the band back in the day due to my lack of familiarity with his music, but he's a hell of a musician and it really seems like he's a great guy. It doesn't seem like the success has gone to his head and I really hope it stays that way if bigger and better things occur for GNR going forward.

  10. Totally unrelated to the topic, but I totally forgot about Axl and Petty. Tremendous. I'd love to see Axl do stuff like this today. Then again, I'd like it if the MTV awards weren't dominated by bubble gum pop and hip hop. Anyways, thanks to the person who posted it. I enjoyed the hell out of that video.

  11. The hipster trend is way older than Kurt and Nevermind. I think that he did help to give the hipster trend a boom. As for PJ, Sg and AiC: I don't think so, they weren't trying to look diferent or something. In fact, PJ was even criticized by Kurt, who judged them "too mainstream" to be part of the alternative scene.

Nobody ever mentioned the alice. I think they were the realest band of the genre. Regular guys who only wrote about things they dealt with. Alot of nice lyrics, although often simple. But it was all delivery. Cantrells riffs, along with the harmony of his and maybes voices has yet to be reproduced since. Nirvana we're big because of image mostly. I don't think their music sticks in mind as much as alice in chains, and its a shame nirvana is considered the big band of grunge music. Every ten year old in america will claim to love nirvana but probably never even heard of aic.

I agree wholeheartedly. Phenomenal band and I'm so happy they found success despite Layne's death. Possibly No. 2 on my personal faves list behind GNR.

  12. Kurt Cobain struck me as a self-important, yet somehow self-loathing pussy who couldn't handle fame, let alone his moronic whore of a wife. And that's coming from someone who enjoyed his music and consider myself lucky enough to have been front row for a Nirvana show. I understand fame can be a difficult thing to grasp, but the man took his life and left a young daughter behind. Man up, bitch. If there was a mental health issue at play then I take it all back and apologize, but I can only have so much sympathy for a junky millionaire who took the easy way out of a charmed life and left his daughter behind.

Meanwhile, I agree with the person who mentioned Soundgarden as a metal band that posed as grunge once grunge took over. It's possible they were alternative guys who posed as metal guys before grunge hit, but that doesn't make it any better. I'll never forget how much I enjoyed Soundgarden when they opened for GNR. Then I saw them headlining a few years later and the live presentation was completely different. Cornell had his mic changed after most songs and did the whole "too good to look at the fans or act like I'm enjoying myself" routine. I was turned off completely and lost a lot of respect for the band that night. It's probably my least favorite concert experience.

  13. Great read. I love the portion where he acknowledges that he doesn't pretend to be an expert or to have all the answers. There are too many preachy Hollywood types who act like they know it all and we should simply accept what they are saying simply because of their fame. I never felt like that while reading this piece. Even when one of the other posters was saying it was a fraud, I still appreciated the thoughtful words regardless of who wrote it. I was happy to read that it really was Axl and I appreciate the way he crafted that piece. Excellent.

  14. Merry Christmas from a longtime lurker who recently started posting more frequently. I love reading all of the news and opinions. A great board fueled by great fans of my favorite band. Thanks to all of you for all the great reading material over the years.

  15. One more thing (before I go get laid :roll eyes:), I'm tired of listening to Eddie Trunk whine about GNR getting in before Kiss and Judas Priest. Make your case for those bands getting in, but don't do it at the expense of GNR. He actually said it's based on one album (AFD) and then mentioned UYI in passing. You know, like UYI were not highly successful. I realize he has man love for Ace, but leave GNR out of it.
