Agreed. Nobody's getting worked up about Billy Joel not putting anything out since 1993, since he was forthright enough to tell fans that nothing's coming.
Plus, y'know, it's Billy Joel.

Frankly I am disappointed in all of them for releasing this series of half ass songs under the guise of being new "real" GNR songs when the quality level is no where near what people would have expected and hoped for getting Axl/Slash on a song together again.
The idea that they are content to put the GNR brand name on left over B-sides from the CD Sessions as their big post reunion releases frankly is kind of embarrassing compared to the level of quality people would expect who didn't know the whole back story about why these songs even exist.
Slash has no interest quite clearly in stuff that's been sitting around for 2 decades and clearly is just going along to get along. That's actually in character for him.
Axl is the one I am dumbfounded is OK with being as creatively backrupt as he is right now while he just milks the back catalog with endless tours. He always held himself out as being above that type of approach. That he has essentially spent 25 years now with nothing to say creatively in terms of new music (even the new releases are all old) is about the last thing I would have ever expected if you had asked me in 1995 what his career arc would look like.
We haven't had new music from Axl and Slash in 30 years and yet they are OK releasing stuff like Hard Skool, Silkworms and Perhaps like those in any way stand up to the level of quality people were so desperately hoping would come from a reunion.
The whole thing just makes me sad from the piece meal approach to the going through the motions.
There was a time they were better than this.
Whilst I agree it's not ideal, I disagree that songs like Hard Skool and Perhaps are beneath them. Just because they weren't released on CD it doesn't make them b-sides. Anybody who thinks Axl believed Scraped and If The World were more worthy songs than Hard Skool and Perhaps clearly needs their ears testing! Even Absurd is better than half of CD imho.
I honestly believe Axl always wanted these songs released in some form. It's simply not true that Hard Skool and Perhaps are not up to scratch. You may not like the changes he made or the copy and paste job of inserting Slash and Duff over the original musicians, but as songs, they are definitely of GNR quality.

Are you seriously comparing the release and promotion of the GnR singles to Metallica, RHCP etc? the videos. the spotify streams, the interviews, the radio play. Of course they're not going to be number 1, but the difference is like comparing some barely known band (GnR) to a very successful act. GnR are massively behind those others on every metric for the recent releases.
I guess, but I think Axl's whole attitude is...

What are you expecting exactly? Rock songs don't top the charts anymore, it's not 2001.
Virtually every legendary rock band who've released new music in the last few years (Metallica, Foos, Ozzy, RHCP, Skid Row, Bon Jovi) have released singles which have come and gone in a flash. They release it for the fans, the days of it making a dent outside of the core fanbase are long gone, no matter how many music videos or TV appearances they do.

Just like how Absurd came out before Hard Skool (i hate both their names with a passion, it's not 2008 anymore Axl!) maybe something more exciting will come after Perhaps, like The General or whatever else they've been tinkering on.

You obviously don't remember who we're dealing with here.
Most mllionaire rockstars don't log on to fanboards and call members "lesbian cunts", but Axl's not most millionaire rockstars.

There's been radio silence from the band when they've had opportunity for promotion. It's not coming tomorrow.
Anyhoo, if it does come, it's 8.31pm in NZ, which is only 3.5 hours away.
Not saying that it's coming tomorrow, but it doesn't always appear at the stroke of midnight on Spotify

I'd bet my life savings on that.
Best case scenario, we get a second one-off single this year, but probably not.

Funny - I got some quite HIStory album vibes from some of Chinese Democracy. In fact, the first time I heard Madagascar, it reminded me strongly of the song HIStory (especially, the use of samples to make speech collages).
Of course - MJ's album has more Slash on it than CD does!
Always loved Slash's solo on D.S.

So annoying seeing this thread busy, holding out for some news and it just being generic chitchat day after day. Can't we just agree to not to post in here until there's actually something newsworthy to discuss?

Or maybe some fans aren't whiny bitches and understand that axls voice will never be like in 92, but still can enjoy it for what it is. Especially with the effort he puts into his performances.
Oh, lighten up.

He may be 61, but he's not a construction worker, a plumber or a carpenter who has no choice but to work until he's 70. THEN you could say "cut him some slack, he's giving his all". No one is forcing him at gunpoint to keep performing. I strongly assume it's his free choice, knowing he sounds like a drowning fish. And he's charging money for that. So what the fuck were y'all even expecting. People must live in a parallel universe if they seriously thought the world would praise that performance.
I think the trouble is, a lot of fans have become used to Axl's voice. It's kinda like a form of stockholm syndrome at this stage.

"noodling" just means in the context of Slash's playing I think, is that when Slash's playing is aimless and loses direction and feels uninspired to listen to. For example when he plays too many notes that don't form a strong melodic connection to one another. In contrast, in his prime in old Guns, it seems most of the time his playing was lyrical, with direction even in the middle of a very chaotic solo.
sometimes he's great nowdays as well, but imho, it's not what it used to be. His guitar playing was so inspired that it felt almost magical the way he could be so fluid on the instrument without losing direction most of the time. An instinct and ability to play exactly what I wanted to hear as a fan.
Absolutely this.
It's baffling how Slash has lost his midas touch. Goes to show, experience doesn't always make you a better player. The Slash of today and the Slash of the 90s/early 00s are like two completely different people. He was twice the player in his 20s, 30s and 40s than he has been the last decade or so. I guess its hard for any musician to stay inspired and always be "in-the-zone", but he really does sound like he's lost sight of what made him so unique in the first place.

Touring is were the money is made today by all musical artists, not selling albums.
Musical artists today, don't require a major recod label for financial support nor to release there material. They can do it all themselevss and control the publishing, distribution etc.
Live Nation are the power brokers of the music industry today, not Universal Music via Interscope or Geffen.
No record label is going to pay Axl to hire out a studio or studios for years on end, and pay the band members to sit around and record an album. Those days are long gone...
If you look at the Foo fighters and Metallica as examples. Both have there own in house record label and both have released there albums via this method. They also have there own in house recording studios (studio 66 and the HQ)
The foo fighters even had control over Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts to announce their retun and their new drummer. No major record label involvement at all and the band even sold merchandise via this marketing tool.
You may have even noticed the style of official music vidoes being released by both Metallica and the Foo fighters. Lots of animation and lyric videos or a live performance.
There is no money in the bank to create expensive music vidoes via record labels anymore. So the artists themselves are creating cost effective alternatives.
There any many reasons why this band hasn't released a new album and it could simply be, the band taking control of its own product, compared to the past when the music industry was very different..
Blah blah blah. Excuses from an Axl-apoligist is all I'm reading. If he wanted to release a new album, he would. End of.

The reason these songs didn't materialise in 2022 like Slash said they would is because Axl didn't want to waste the rest of the songs by putting them out as one off singles or an EP, he wanted enough material to be worked on for an entire album. The plan is to release a single and perform it live on this tour, coinciding the single release with an announcement for the new album scheduled for fall of 2023. Then 2024 will be the tour in support of that album.
Well, that's the dream anyway.

The intro sounds like Interstate Love Song. That’s probably why.
I hear that, but it's only a passing resemblance and the song itself is completely different. Lame decision to make it a bonus track imo.

Messages is the best song they ever did. How it didn't make the standard edition of Libertad is baffling, when it is far and away the strongest song on it.
