  1. + TWAT

    + Catcher

    + Seeker

+ Don't Let It Bring You Down

    + Richard's new solo

    - Axl's vocal performance

    - no new original songs

    - no UYI gems

    - too static setlist despise some changes/additions

    - dancers

    - Ron playing rather lame songs for his solo instead of his more intresting works

    - DJ Ashba

Overall same old "greatest hits" thing with some minor changes. I think they did pretty well for that but it could have been a lot more and and a lot better.

I hope the endless touring will raise enough money for a new album but I don't see that happening any time soon.

The more they tour, the less I'm intrested. Never thought I'd say that, but somehow the thrill is gone.

  2. all this nitpicking about fast moving zombies makes me laugh dont people have anything better to do with their time?

the trailer looks awesome and i'm sure the writer sure got a good share and will sell shitloads of copies because of the film.

i dont see what this has to do with gnr?

gnr WAS a band and is NOW a brand, led by the original singer. what's not to understand?

  3. Axl is 50 - but so what? Cornell and Vedder are pushing 50 also. Plant and Springsteen are way over 60. All of them kick Axl's ass today when with a little practise and effort he could kick theirs. It's not a contest but it's kinda depressing seing such a great singer doing so little just because he gets away with it,.A man's voice gets deeper with age and may lose a bit of range and breath but the vocal chords are basically a muscle that with exercise will be just fine with age. Unless he was sick or doing medication that had an effect on the voice, Axl is basically just one lazy motherfucker.

  4. I'd rate the vocals like this:

1.) 2006 - not as powerful as 2010 but not as much reverb and delay on the vocals either, energetic and natural performances mostly, still had some fire and mystique and kind of a darker edge to it all, fewer rants but they happened, probably the last concerts with an actual edge before DJ Ashba joined and the whole thing turned into a corporate product and a visual show more than an actual rock concert.

2.) 2010 - very consistent and strong vocals but too many sound effects at times and too static performances, no more rants except for a couple of stupid pissing contests with audiences and promoters, hiding under a hat and sunglasses started here, along with more pyros, DJ Ashba and all the other crap draggin attention away from the music and the lead singer.

3.) 2002 - they call it the "Mickey Mouse" voice, but imo he still had a lot of fire underneath and overall, still doing rants, sporting Buckethead and kind of a dark vibe with lots of mystique, the last time he did a lot of running on stage and perhaps the finest versions of "Street Of Dreams" and "Madagascar" ever, some of the soundboards of that tour are better than what you hear on the actual album.

4.) 2012 - mostly hit and miss, pretty good but never truly great on good nights, absolutely horrible on bad nights, overall no fire, no energy, just putting on a show, sad, tragic, boring, the first time I didn't bother getting tickets.

Rio 2011, UCP and the wedding shows I can't comment as I turned it off after a couple of songs it was just too painful to watch. Bridge School I cut him some slack for showing up supporting the good cause but still the performance was as laughable as the excuse.

  5. Some bitching on TWAT...stop reading here if you don't like criticism....exactly where was Ron nailing the TWAT solo? Don't get me wrong, this is about the best he ever played it and he is using the effects in all the right places, but he is playing a lot of wrong notes (especially in the tapping/hammer on part) and it sounds too pieced together, no flow and none of the efortlessness of Buckethead.

And DJ...man...seriously what is wrong with this dude? Is Robin's solo really that hard to play? Robin gave me chills when he played it but in DJ's hands It sounds so lifeless. I appreciate them playing that song again (one of my favs on CD) but without any real guitar magic it just doesn't come to life. I mean this song is pretty much all about the big build up towards the amazing guitar solos but it just sounds dead on arrival so far.

Ron gets better every time he plays the song but I don't see DJ nailing the solo any time soon. They could pick a random player from the street and he'd put more life into it than DJ. The guy is getting worse with every show, sounds like he doesn't even know how to tune his guitar. Ron and Richard please give the dude some guitar lessons, this is painful to listen to.

  6. Pick your favourite axman of the current lineup and feel free to elaborate why he's your favourite.

To make it a little more intresting try and be either totally objective or totally subjective and avoid comparism to Slash, Buckethead or any other guitarist because that's not what this poll is about and those discussions usually go nowhere anyway.

    Have fun!

  7. Great interview....Plant is so classy. Imagine if he'd been calling his various line ups/bands Led Zeppelin, Zep woulda gone down as a joke but he kept it classy. Axl shoulda gone the same route, things woulda turned out so much different for him.

For me Axl has more in common with Page actually, in that their bands are probably the only or at least the biggest thing for them in their creative life, while Slash and Plant don't need their bands as much to keep going, Axl and Page pretty much define themselves as artists through the band.

And I agree Robert is great in that interview, but so the interviewer.

Have you seen that pathetic Billy Corgan interview the guy did? The interviewer was basically rolling out a red carpet for him, but Corgan just went into his usual bitchwhine mode about 'the state of music' and all that shit.

Then up comes Robert Plant and goes "Up there on the pantheon, there are no iPods." You have the difference between a monkey and a god right there in that one quote.

Man I would love see Axl sitting down with that interviewer.

  8. With the three guitarists I'd say go for 'Over The Hills And Far Away' or 'Ramble On' or some other song that isn't too overplayed and would suit Axl's voice.

I like Dizzy's covers a lot actually, but 'No Quarter' doesn't do much for me, the only really good cover of that song ever was Tool.

Perhaps even 'Kashmir' but I doubt they could top this:

  9. I hate those picks and lists, as if music was a sport...

If you want to get something out of it, rather make a personal top 10 thread but not such a common ground bullshit list.

All of these albums are awesome, I'd never rank any of these above the other, yet none of these is one of my personal favourites.

  10. Having all available ex members in ONE show would be epic. Izzy for some 14 Years, Duff for some YCBM or Civil War, Robin for Better and This I Love. Top the whole thing off with Brain getting Buckethead to do TWAT with the band and a little "dueling guitars" solo with Ron, then play a new song with just the current lineup. No covers, no bullshit - just music.

  11. I miss it. Axl seemed eager to showcase what his band had come up with. They played Silkworms, OMG, Maddie, The Blues and Chidem that show. I don't think they will play new songs this year...

Funny how they played more CD songs that show than they did most shows after the album was out. Actually it's not funny, it's sad.

He seemed to be so much more excited and passionate about the whole thing back then. If he could find a way to keep that through all the shit I believe not only would be have better setlist, we'd be much closer to a new album and maybe even have a better band overall.

Not in my wildest dreams I could imagine the Axl of 2001/2002 putting on a corporate greatest hits show with DJ Ashba.

Rio 2001 was awesome because it had some tension. All the way from Buckethead to "that guy...gone!", introducing new material, Beta translating and little things like "ok, nevermind" there was some actual INTERACTION with the band and crowd, it was a real concert, not just a "show".
