  1. "We're playing three shows a week and our main goal is to make every show unique and really change it up because we do realize there are going to be a lot of people flying from all over the world to see maybe one, two, three shows," says Ashba. "But there are the local people that we do take into consideration that may show up to every single show. That's kind of what's been cool about Guns: it's so spontaneous live, we've never followed a set list."

  3. I guess that is one huge difference as to what kind of fan you and I are. You are happy watching BBF cover other people's work. I wish Axl would give him an opportunity to shine with his own work. I love the classic band, but wish Axl would let the current band make their mark on GnR. You apparently are cool with them covering slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven/Matt.

They all have their solo spots, what they come up with is their own choice. For me, the only guys using their solo to showcase their talent and come up with something original, memorable or at least intresting would be Buckethead and Richard. Everyone else pretty much wasted his solo on pretty silly (Robin, Ron) or rather generic stuff (DJ).

  4. wondering if they'll play TWAT at all during this

    residency.

Of course not, it's a fan favourite, why should they play it?

define fan favourite. Maybe a favourite of the people currently in this thread, but lets be honest a lot of gnr fans wont even know twat.

"a lot of GN'R fans" don't even know the name of the lead guitarist, they think "Estranged" is just long and boring, they wonder why Slash wears makeup now and they are dissapointed the band doesn't play their biggest hit "Living On A Prayer" but they leave happy anyway because they got to see Jimmy Page, the lead guitarist of Pink Floyd. I wouldn't call these people fans, they are more like the average mainstream classic rock target audience filling seats and paying the bills, fans are the ones left when these idiots are long gone. So what are fan favourites? You can call them "album tracks" or "deep cuts" but we will most likely be talking about the very same songs.

  5. They should never play Don't Let It Bring You Down. Ever again.

I haven't heard the ones they've done in Vegas but I agree. I'm not a Neil Young fan. Never have been, never will be.

Not even After The Goldrush? Old Man? Ambulance Blues? Come on...

Vegas was better than Bridge School, cool vintage sound and vocals were spot on.

  6. Axl said TWAT was too hard for him to sing all the time basically. He'd have to work on it.

In the Eddie Trunk interview he said he was also struggling with YCBM but I give him that, the song is old. But TWAT? Axl is probably the only singer writing songs for himself out of his own range AND refusing the basic concept of re-arranging material at all. It's a shame because TWAT is a really good song. Would love to hear where it goes live, most of the songs just stagnate and stuff like TWAT isn't even brought to life at all. He writes all these awesome tunes and then it's put on a CD never to be played again. Crazy.

  7. Tonight's setlist:

    Chinese Democracy

    Welcome to the Jungle

    It's So Easy

    Mr. Brownstone

    Estranged

    Richard Solo

    Live And Let Die Cover

    This I Love

    Better

    Tommy Solo

    Band Introductions

    Dizzy Solo Cover

    Street Of Dreams

    You Could Be Mine

    DJ Solo

    Sweet Child O' Mine

Another Brick In The Wall Cover

    November Rain

    Ron Solo

    Don't Cry

Don't Let It Bring You Down Cover

    Civil War

    Riff Raff Cover

    Knockin' On Heaven's Door Cover

    Nightrain

    Patience

    Paradise City

One more cover, one more AFD song and maybe one more from CD (except Catcher, TWAT or Prostitute of course) are possible though. It all depends, they are very spontanious and never play the same setlist, actually they don't even have a setlist. Sometimes they even change arrangements so the set songs all sound a bit different and fresh on every tour. And don't worry, they will not play any of the other 25 UYI songs that haven't been performed since 19fuckin93, instead you will get lots of pyros, a flying piano and an avantgarde Led Zeppelin cover without guitars and vocals and perhaps the best Neil Young impersonation ever. And yes, the singer hiding under a hat and sunglasses for the enire show is actually Axl Rose.

  8. Remember 2001 to 2006. Nothin cept a few dizzy blurbs.

It's not like Ron really shares some actual insight on the band or the creative process, all he does is small talk and giving vague hints at being unhappy because of...what? Something related to the band obviously, but he just talks a lot without saying anything. As accessable and nice as he is to the fans, in substance it is not so much more than the dark age of the Buckethead era. If it was between drama Ron or freakshow Buckethead I'm going with the chicken man any day, at least you don't have to have perfect pitch and study music theory to enjoy Buckethead's music. Listening to Ron's stuff....I wouldn't even call that music anymore, it's more like mathematics, all architecture, no gardening whatsoever. The drama doesn't make a respectable musician and very likeable guy look any better, in fact it works to his and to the bands disadvantage.

  9. Just for shits and giggles, here's an idea for improving the setlist without straying too far from the beaten path:

    Welcome To The Jungle

    It's So Easy

    Mr. Brownstone

    Live And Let Die

    - Axl introduces the band -

    - Richard solo -

You're Crazy (bluesy electric Live Era-ish version)

    Locomotive

    Better

    Dead Horse / Breakdown (rotation)

    You Could Be Mine

    - Axl solo / Prostitute piano instrumental -

    November Rain

    - DJ solo -

    Sweet Child O' Mine

Patience / Don't Let It Bring You Down (rotation)

    - Tommy or Dizzy solo (rotation) -

Estranged / There Was A Time (rotation)

The General or just ANY new original song

Outta Get Me / Shackler's Revenge (rotation)

    - Ron solo -

Civil War / Knockin' On Heaven's Door (rotation)

    Rocket Queen

    Encore:

    Coma

This I Love / Street Of Dreams (rotation)

    Nightrain

    Paradise City

Something like that is realistic as far as light, pyros and Axl's timeouts go, it would make every concert a lot more special and shut about everyone bitching about the setlist up. Is it that hard to combine the greatest hits revue with just a little something for the hardcore fans? The band can play the current set in their sleep and at this is just how they sound. Every concert is exactly the same.

I know, I know...if you don't like it don't listen...you are just a crazy internet fan...they play for the people in attendance that night...blablabla...but still no one in his right mind can deny such a set would be plain awesome and it would make both random and hardcore fans attend multiple shows again just to get something they didn't get the other five times before.

  10. This is the version from the Bridge School concert with Neil Young, the title of this video is just lame but it's has a different angle and better sound than the first one that surfaced.

Compare this with the Vegas performance and see how much they have already improved their take on this song from there the next time they played it. I see a lot of potential. Looking foward to more performances of this great song.

  11. For me, this is hands down the best cover choice GN'R ever did old or new band, for once Axl is covering a song he seems to really FEEL and that with a little work could fit him like a glove. They should keep this in the set and work on it a bit more, maybe even release it as a single. Would love a studio version of this!

Think I would prefer if he used a deeper voice with this song. Still cool to see.

    This.

The fragility MAKES the song, he does it perfect justice as it is, but some rasp would be the cherry on top.

  12. I think there's definitely a medium. There's a market for great, accessible rock songs, that could be a little more intricate and detailed. But I think that's the nature of the beast. Listening to the CD mulit-tracks really opened my eyes to Axl's musical direction. I mean, there's so much there that you can't even begin to hear, and just the background orchestrations and effects in songs like 'Prostitute' and 'This I Love' sound like incredibly deep and complicated epic movie scores. But there's also such a thing as overthinking everything. I think the rock songs on the album are fairly accessible. They may not have super catchy hooks and choruses, but you listen to a song like 'Better', it's easy on the ears and you can listen to and bob your head to it...

Try and play "Prostitute" on acoustic guitar, that experience will instantly sum up everything that is wrong about Chinese Democracy. I love this song as it is but unlike all the "classic" songs you just couldn't sing or play it at the campfire, speaks volumes about how it was created and why it doesn't work in a live setting. Aside from "There Was A Time" that applies to pretty much any song on the record. It's good music, but when you need an orchestra and Pro Tools to get the point across it's not rock music.

  13. He probably is interested in gear more than the other guys seeing as he is playing a guitar with a reversed neck pickup (aka Peter Green mod) through a modified 1959.

I read somewhere that he is using (probably among other amps) the Marshall that Mick Mars from Motley used to use.

My favourite is the Tele with the reversed bridge pickup. Here's a video with Richard talking about his gear:
