  1. All the shit talking about DJ used to be about Robin back in the day...unbelievable. Sometimes I wonder why I come here at all....

True but is it really coming from the same people? I for one have always appreciated Robin not just when he was gone. Same goes for not appreciating DJ. The day I saw this guy I was sceptical but I came to the shows with an open mind giving him the benefit of the doubt and really wanting to like him but I just can't. I don't care how he looks, I just don't like his sound, playing and the corporate attitude he brings to the band. Saw Robin twice with Guns and twice with NIN and unlike DJ I never knew what I was up to musicially until he took me there with his music. Sometimes I liked it sometimes I didn't but the thing is it was real, original and unique where DJ is more like the McDonalds of guitar players.

  2. FUCK YEAH!!!!

This is a glorious day. The Republicans get DESTROYED and the fucking man who can save GNR gets a B-day wish from the band. Robin 2013!!!!

GTFO DJ! No one fucking likes you! No one. And all these hacks who just blindly pretend to love everything the current band touches, will turn their backs on you and your shitty AshbaSWAG the SECOND you're sorry ass is out of here. We're sick of the shameless plugging, we're sick of the absolute RAPE of Slash and Robin's guitar work, we're sick of your fucking stuck-in-the-80's rock n' roll mentality and Motley Crue-like behavior. Since you've joined this band you've made it a fucking joke. A nostalgia act, of non-stop touring and broken promises. When GNR came back in 2001, it was a band of REAL musicians. New and different players that could have fucking changed the music industry. And you have taken EVERYTHING that made the 01 - 08 band special, and different and reverted GNR to a fucking dull shadow of what it once was - a glam rock band. It's 2012 - we want Robin. We want Oh My God and Silkworms. We want real passionate artistic players that have a fucking soul. Not a corporate emo cunt like you!

    BRING BACK ROBIN!

Spread the word brothers and sisters. This upcoming year is OUR YEAR. We can do this. We can get this joke out of our favorite band and make Guns N' Roses what we've all wanted it to be for a long fucking time.

Robin is our lord and savior, now and forever - amen.

Yes, it is Dj's fault the band has become a nostalgia act, it is Dj's fault the band tour a lot, it is Dj's fault that the promises were broken (what promises?). Besides, Dj plays Slash's stuff a lot better than Robin ever did.

Now go and lie down for a bit.

Of course it's Dj's fault the band has become a nostalgia act. Before he joined the band, they were actually something new and different. SInce he's joined they've just reverted back to a hair band that tours endlessly. From 2001 - 2008 the band had a new look, a modern electronic vibe to the music, and they were just generally something unique and different. Since he joined the band, they've just lost all the things that made them special and unique. GNR just isn't interesting anymore because of Dj and his cockrock look, approach, and playing.

Dj has said a LOT to the fans, and literally NEVER tells the truth. He's done this countless times. Since 2010 he's gone on about the new album and how they were SOOO close to getting in the studio and putting it together, yet Ron confirmed in the MyGNR chat they still haven't done jack shit. He said the LA show last year would have a bunch of surprises and there wasn't a single one...the list goes on.

Dj does not play Slash's stuff better than Robin. He attempts to play it the same way, and just takes shortcuts and gives a generally dull performance. Yeah, he runs around and jumps up and down a lot on stage to compensate for his playing, but it really doesn't matter. He's just not a good player. Robin on the other hand actually made the solos his own. He didn't try to play them note for note. He gave his own interpretation of the music. He wasn't just a bad Slash copy. He was himself. As a guitar player and just a fan of music in general, I respected that. Some might have not loved his versions of the solos but at least he went out there and actually tried to do something unique. He just got lost in his own world when he played and you could see it when you watched him. He was a true artist and one of the most soulful players in music. Dj is nothing but a passion-less hack.

    Finally the truth.

I have seen both Robin and DJ perform with Guns in person and I could not agree more with basically everything you said.

Fuck the corporate greatest hits glam rock appeasement bullshit.

Bring back the guitarist responsible for a good portion of the better stuff on Chinese Democracy and bring back his songwriting and bring back his hit and miss acid blues jams.

I'd take Robin over DJ any day BECAUSE he doesn't sound like Slash, is original in his choice of notes, authentic in his style and personality and even dares to fail and in that is ten times more the musician and artist DJ is.

  3. i LOVE jian. he would do the interview in a heartbeat too i bet. i'm certain he likes the band and has interviewd members of the first gnr......i should ask him on facebook

The guy had Slash on his show and from what I recall the interviewer never said shit about Axl or the new band. He wasn't trying to get Slash to badmouth Axl either, it was all about the music and the creative process, very respectful and insightful, really good interviewer.

Not too get too excited but that guy having Axl on the show could hit a million views on YT in no time. The overall reaction to the Kmmel interview was very positive, now think of what could be gained from an in depth on camera talk with such a great interviewer.

  4. He's like the only guy I could think of to go a little deeper without being too pushy and ask about the current state of the band while at the same time being respectful about the old without geting into nostalgia been there done that 'when are you gonna reunite with Slash' type of bullshit. The Plant interview is a great example of that.

  5. All of them except Catcher, TWAT and Prostitute, wich are actually my favourite songs of CD.

I remember going off on 'Better' and singing along to 'Street Of Dreams' back when it was called 'The Blues' and everyone around me looking at me like WTF how does this guy know these songs lol.

I saw them quite a couple of times by now but I never got to hear any of my heartland Guns songs in person actually. Oh the irony...

  6. So I was browsing through YouTube the other day and found these really amazing interviews the guy does. It's not the usual crap, he does really good interviews.

Axl going on Jimmy Kimmel and doing a bit with USA Today was one thing and it was great seing him open up for a bit, but Axl sitting down with this guy could really be like the one interview all fans have been waiting for a long time.

Have a look at this guy working his way around yet into Robert Plant without asking "so when is Led Zeppelin going to reunite" ever or how he got Neil Young to open up about songwriting and stuf and tell me you wouldn't love to see Axl sitting there shooting the shit with this guy.

    What do you think?

  7. Overhearing conversations and killing time on the internet I picked up rumours (I have no links or names so I just leave it at that) of Axl taking a timeout after the release of CD to test the waters stepping in for Robert Plant in Led Zeppelin for a tour. Page said they were actually testing with a famous rock singer but he won't reveal the name. Is there any truth to that being Axl?

  8. It could just be that way with DJ. Trying to find his image with guns and seeing what the fans respond.

After coping with the last decade of Guns my patience for a 40yr? old professional guitarist "trying to find his image" is rather limited. I don't give a shit about his image when the guy doesn't even have a sound to begin with.

  9. FYI pinned thread for the SETlist inspectors.

yeah but that topic is locked - for the mods to put any setlist discussion to garbage and out of context? its eating a lot of fans obviously and should be discussed.

If a Gnr setlist is eating at you or anyone else, I suggest maybe taking a break from following every show online for a while, and maybe check back every so often and see if something new has been played, and if it has it will be a bonus, and if there's nothing different you wouldn't have missed a thing. It's a win win situation.

Been there, done that, didn't work, still CARE about the band and still would travel the world to see them but not with this setlist.

  10. It sucks that axl would rather appeal to your average asshole than his hardcore fan base.

    + 1000

He's got all the right to do what he wants but the thing is I just don't BUY it anymore. If playing AC/DC covers is what he went through all the shit for then he was never credible in the first place. But if his music has proven one thing then it's that he is an artist, yet he goes for the corporate entertainer to appease people who don't give two shits about the art while sending out a nice big FUCK YOU to every single hardcore fan who LOVE the art. And then there's the yes-fanbase trying to push everyone criticising that into the corner of false entitlement wich is absolute bullshit.

I don't expect him to turn into Bruce Springsteen but if the Stones can play "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" and even Zeppelin played "For Your Life" at the O2 then why the fuck can't he pull out the big guns instead of all that big production flying piano dancers pyro pop bullshit crap. So he's insecure? Kick off a set with Nightrain or try and play say Locomotive or TWAT and see what happens. To the random asshole it won't be much of a difference to any CD track but to the actual fans it could make all the difference.

  11. This band is reportedly sitting on a couple more albums in their vault. Plus DJ and Axl say they are constantly writing new material.

Sure. And I have wings and walk on water.

Even with the most optimistic attitude anyone who followed the band for a bit is plain delusional to believe anything regarding new material anymore until they actually let us HEAR it. Don't get me wrong I would love some new material but I see absolutely nothing even remotely pointing towards that.

  12. They band really should do something with the setlist.

It's not just a hardcore thing. No one really gives a shit about a flying piano or Ramstein pyros or dancers when it's just the same order of songs over and over again this is not even a rock concert anymore, just a big and bloated show production.

They don't even have to play new songs, but they could at least change the order of the songs, or try different arrangements of classics, or include an acoustic set or just play some of those other 25 UYI songs. It's not like they don't have plenty of material to choose from, but they don't even play the best CD songs (TWAT, Catcher, Prostitute) anymore.

DJ saying "we never follow a setlist it's all so spontanious" and promising surprises is beyond laughable given the setlist they actually play. 2 - 3 hours is awesome but the truth is half of that is covers and guitar solos.

14 Years, Catcher In The Rye, Yesterdays, There Was A Time, Breakdown, Coma, Prostitute, Locomotive, Dead Horse...so many gems but they play AC/DC covers. It's a shame.

  13. The classic lineup and the 2002 lineup were the best. Current lineup is my least favourite much because of Frank's drumming (he's ok but he doesn't hold a candle to Steven Adler or Brain), Ron's guitar sound and choice of notes (he's got amazing skills but he's playing too many notes and uses too much compression, he's got no mojo) and DJ's uninspired generic playing that to me sounds like a cheap Slash copy without the substance of Slash. Robin was very hit and miss live but at least he came up with something original both in music and style instead of so shamelessly copying Slash. Also liked him better as a person, he was just more artist and human being not product and salesman like DJ. Loved his acid blues jams. Of the current lineup I only truly enjoy Axl, Richard and Tommy. What I miss the most is Slash's tone and Buckethead's choice of notes. Though Buckethead doesn't need Guns and vice versa, Slash to me never sounds complete without Axl's vocals.

  14. Maybe Axl is just being respectful with the material and you critics are just unable to cope with something that isn't spoonfed to you with 20 guitars and screams and pyros?

If the song means something to him and this is how he feels it then let him fucking sing it the way he does it. Unlike on most of his classic material today he is actually singing here, and it is powerful because it is fragile and vulnerable. Singing and actual expression is so much more than just sceaming the fuck out of a song. His rendition is fucking beautiful.

I'm a huge fan of Neil Young and I believe no one can ever really write or sing a Neil Young song but Neil Young. Funny how the songwriter himself was not to cool to sing it with Axl though, but the minute Axl tries something with just a tiny portion of authencity and heartland his fans give him shit for not being rock and roll enough.

But the truth is Axl is 50 and it's about fucking time he starts playing material like that. Where do you think he's going to be at 60? Singing YCBM "with your ass in the air"? Most likely because he's catering to an audience of idiots. But I for one rather see an honest and authentic falsetto that has something to say than a forced attempt at rasp, trying to sound like what only his critics will forever call his prime just to make those idiots happy. Let the man evolve for once, let the wine gain some bottom and wisdom and fucking enjoy it.

With the shitstorm he gets it's no wonder he sticks to playing it safe with a show production rather than playing actual concerts. I understand a little Neil Young is not for everyone, but all that overly harsh criticism is no better than Slash or Duff giving him shit for Estranged and November Rain back in the day.

With the sad excuse of a setlist we have seen for a good while now, instead of doing yet another AC/DC cover to please the drunken morons, Axl at 50 covering a song that for once actually means something to him at this point in time is about the coolest thing happening to Guns in a long while.
