  1. 10. Guns & Roses - 'Use Your Illusion 1 and 2'These are technically two different albums, but since they were released on the same side they are widely seen as a double album. Even most hardcore Guns N' Roses fans admit that it's bloated and all over the place, but the high points ("November Rain," "Civil War," "You Could Be Mine" "Don't Cry") rank among the best work the band ever did. The original group split after a long tour supporting the disc, and Axl Rose has made it quite clear that he will never again share a stage with Slash. GNR are eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, so the world will finally be able to call his bluff.

Damn there were some shit bands in front of GNR.. what fuck are people on???

I thought most of the bands in front of GNR were kind of logical choices. It's the bands that defined the 90's. Although Smashing Pumpkins x2 wasn't necessary.

  2. Rumors flew all last year that it would be a self-titled release

This would be the best route to go and would really solidify this band once and for all as Guns N' Roses.

    Or do the exact opposite.

  3. We all know they have at least another album of material in the pipeline, so it's not like they have to start recording from scratch. Just mix CD II and put it out. If the label won't give them money to market it than they are just going to have to get creative. They've got over 4 million fans on Facebook that they could send the first single out to if they really wanted to get the ball rolling.

Isn't that material CD rejects? Or depending on how you look at it, at least material recorded during the same period of time as CD and perhaps saved for later? Releasing that at this time is not a very good idea I think.

If I look at it from my personal point of view, I don't care much for the sound of CD and that's why I wouldn't be very excited by a release. CD sounded outdated by the time it was released. Also, Axl's voice isn't in it's best shape. A lot is just TOO Mickey Mousey, and the songs that are actually good vocally, like Better, just don't sound like the Axl I came to absolutely love. A good singing voice and an Axl Rose singing voice are just two different things; that special Axl Rose voice is just beyond good singing and it's missing on CD. Also, the overproduction with the endless layers, the boring sometimes mechanical drum beat, the non-melodical guitar solos (no not all of them)...

From a business point of view, it's not a very good choice either. The general public was not impressed by CD. I don't care how much it sold, it sold because of old merits and that will not happen again. Of course you can argue that the general public is not important, but then you also have to accept that there will be no arena tours in the future. GN'R will turn into something completely different, and as fantastic as it would be to see them on a smaller stage, taking that step back after decades of arena concerts would be like accepting defeat. The old material with the new band can't fill stadiums all over the world more than a limited number of times before "everybody's already seen it" and Axl is definitely too old to be singing about how the cops are out ta get him or about a 20-year old girl who does her coke for free. Of course he should never stop doing the classics completely but I think the major draw has to be something more currently relevant or it will turn pathetic at some point. More CD type songs will not become that draw.

Also, most importantly, the current band is not on those goddamn songs! If they are ever to convince us that this is a real band, they have to be the ones playing on the newly released tracks. There has to be some sort of marketing of their skills. Plus, Axl's voice seems to be much better now so it would be a pity to have older, inferior vocal tracks released by this point.

Those tracks should be released at some point though, of course they would be a fantastic bonus for the diehards.

  4. Would Bad Obsession be country?

Bad Apples and Dust N Bones sort of have that same vibe too. But what would you call it?

Some of the stuff is blues and country too right?

More influenced than actually is in itself. There are not many GNR songs you can quantify as blues as such really if you think about it, alot of the guitar work is obviously influenced heavily from the blues and uses blues scales etc but off the top of my head I can not think of a single GNR song I would call blues.

I guess Used To Love Her is country? But then it is basically just Dead Flowers...

What about Move to the City?

  5. Bon Jovi are still huge worldwide AND in North America, they've always been mainstream commercial so this shouldn't be a surprise. Frankly it's weird that some are just finding this out. :shrugs:

I'd say a bigger shock for a band so recent-ish is Linkin Park's numbers. But then again this IS their generation...

Yeah but their mainstream success seem so far away. Don't know about their line-up this year but a UYI type Guns line-up would most certainly be a bigger draw and they had huge mainstream success back in the day.

I agree with you on Linkin Park though, although I'm not even sure if it's "their generation". They had a couple of years in the spotlight the way I see it. Very outdated music already.

  6. Bon Jovi has more Facebook fans than GN'R?! God, I'm losing my faith in humanity.

    I don't get this either.

Also they sold out something like 10 shows (night after night) at the 02 in London last year. What the hell!?

Bizarre. I don't think I know one person who would go see Bon Jovi. And even if they had a fantastically successful tour, Guns' legacy should still give them an advantage on Facebook. Cause it's not like that Bon Jovi tour was massively reported on or anything. The added FB fans should equal the casual concert goers.

  7. for a band so inactive... one most wonder, what is up with facebook people?

    why do they like GNR?

    is it trendy?

or it's just pure accident... even though a band so opposite in action,

such as U2 for example has around 7.2 mil.

and now GNR has 6.4 mil.

    why is that?

    ha?! punk!?

could it be the music? nah.

yeah I know they are about old GNR tunes, but still here they are, and they still like GNR.

do you imagine the amount of people following now, that they would follow Axl's band the same way?

and just to put some salt in there, wasn't from the start what GNR was about, that is - GNR was Axl's band? ha?

or do you thing it's an accident the fact that GNR was for so long and still is Axl's?

it is because he identify mostly with the concept,

which, again, I may remind you, he invented it. just saying. B)

GNR are the greatest band in the world still in 2011 that is a fact.

GNR's been touring an album for 10 years... they have, in the book become a nostalgia act... they merely play the new songs and they have to play the old classics hits to keep the energy going, just like another 80's band

but hey if that translates for you in the greates rock band... well try keeping a bit away form facebook from time to time

here is an 80's band for you... http://www.facebook.com/MotleyCrue and see they have what? 800.000 people.

    and... http://www.facebook.com/Poison with 200.000 people.

and just so you know, rock bands that are extremely popular these days like Kings of Leon http://www.facebook.com/KingsOfLeon?v=app_178091127385 have just more than 7 mil. or Muse (which I like)

    http://www.facebook.com/muse have about 8.3mil

    and http://www.facebook.com/Nickelback?v=app_5179614317

whom last album, which came out in the same time with Chinese Democracy sold way more units and stood in the charts for so long, have just 6.6 mil likes on Facebook.

and the best selling artists of 2010 in concert that is http://www.facebook.com/BonJovi have just more than 9.2 mil

    \

    so, are you for real?

Bon Jovi has more Facebook fans than GN'R?! God, I'm losing my faith in humanity.

  8. Maybe Estranged. It became even more special to me when I was playing it at home just when I had moved in with my boyfriend, who knew nothing about GN'R. I was playing it, actually the Live Era version I think, and he went like "What is this song?! It might be the best song ever written!". And then some sort of special moment..

  9. It's just perfect (except maybe he seems to avoid some high notes, but i does it in a good way :) )

He should really have used more of that that deeper raspy voice in this last tour. I haven't really found any clips of it unfortunately but maybe I'm just wrong.

    "Rise N Grind with a little post Valentine's classic #nowplaying - Used To Love Her - http://bit.ly/hHyYlz"

    4 minutes ago via Facebook

    "post valentine classic" :D

Btw, what idiots are GN'R fans on Facebook and comment their posts with crap like "Paradise City is good song!!!"? If you don't know more about the band and don't care about the post topic just shut up!

  11. It's not going to happen! How many times have we seen Axl do an interview saying that there would never be a reunion. He said 'One of us (referring to himself and Slash) would have to be dead before we play together again.'

However, only last week did Slash say that he'd 'consider' a reunion should Axl apologise. We all know Axl Rose never apologises to everybody, less about a feud that started over 15 years ago with a man he described as 'a cancer'.

He was asked if he would consider a reunion if Axl apologized and he said yes.

    Which is what I said.

But you continued to say "Axl never apologizes", like you were concluding that would mean no reunion, when Slash never stated an apology was necessary.

Also I think it's a bit rude to state that Axl never apologizes. We don't know that. We do know he has reconciled with a bunch of people who he has been in conflict with, which indicates the opposite.

  13. I kinda wonder why Axl was so dead quiet during those years...Why he didn't go to a single public event from '94 to '00.

    Hair Transplant!

    You whore.

That's definitely part of it (not all), though he didn't have it done until '97ish. The reason one can make this claim is because of his Sedona mugshot....that is...how thick his hair is in front - unnaturally thick. It's markedly different than just 3 to 4 years earlier when we saw one of the last public photos of him (Springsteen show in '94). Stories surfaced that his first procedure around '98 was botched and that caused an additional delay to him resurfacing. He was originally to do some shows in the late 90's but it wasn't until '00, after he had his hair correctly done, that he finally showed up.

You'll also note that in the mugshot pic his face is still very natural looking - like that of a normal mid 30's man. So in my estimation (and I know I'm not alone), the '98-99 years were post transplant but pre face-grind. The LA Lakers interview not only scared me, but proved that he had some sort of procedure done to his face.

Again, more power to him if he wants to improve his appearance, I just can't get over how some people on this board continue to believe he had NOTHING done to his hair or face....laughable.

im more interested in the 2000-2004 era.

Well 2002 never happened, so scratch that year off the list.

LA Lakers Video = Crappy video quality.

Besides, his hair looked thinner in 1990 than it did in 1993.

What strikes med most about the LA Lakers video is Axl's manners and body language. He is so shy, insecure and polite. It's really hard to believe it's him just because of that. I guess it tells something about how he had changed during those tough years. Other than that he MUST have had some botox or something. He looks like a kid, younger than in the 80's! Although I'm not sure about how much of that is due to that impression is due to body language. His eye brows are missing though, that's a bit weird.

It's due to the low quality of the footage.

The whole footage, not just Axl, is a bit muddy. Therefore, stuff such as lines on the face, eyebrows, etc, aren't as clearly defined as they would be.

Naaah, there should be footage of so many different qualities from throughout the years and not once did he look anything like that.

  15. :rofl-lol:

    so funny!

it's like, what? either Steven or Matt, and Dizzy?

were is the most original line-up of GNR then?

    hello?

re-unionists? were are u on this one?

are pure blooded as in AFD line-up or mixed up feelings towards and could get pleased with just the beginning of UYI line-up?

    :rofl-lol:

Frankly, I'm not sure Adler could take the pressure from that kind of appearance after being out of the spotlight and on rock bottom for 20 years. Matt seems like a more solid choice. Although it would probably kill Steven to be left out.

  16. hey dude, have you ever been to a GNR concert lately?

so... how about attending one, whenever you'll get the chance if ever GNR will start a new tour.

    already have, what of it?

because these guys, who play now in GNR are better than him.

...and yet we're waiting for a song from NewGuns with an iconic riff or solo as wttj, scom, nr, estr, ycbm... :shrugs:

you're true on Welcome to the Jungle.

hahaha, guess you still don't know what's Slash opinion on Sweet Child O'Mine? his playing was noticed by Axl, and that's how the song got written.

and Estranged and November Rain are Axl's songs man. you do lack info, I gotta give you that.

and You Could Be Mine is Izzy's and Axl's baby man!

where are you from exactly? I mean what class? what room?

He did say "riff or solo" though, and the guitar work on NR and Estranged is Slash's.

  17. On topic it is great if they tour again, but I hope it is not combined with some relaunch. CD needs to be left in the past now. If they don't have material for a whole album they should at least release an EP with stuff from the current band to go with the tour. The unreleased CD stuff is leftovers, which I think would be a bad idea to release at this point.
