47 minutes ago, SoulMonster said:I think The General is absolutely good enough for an album and could have replaced many songs off UYIs or CD and made a better album. So no, "we" won't look back at this and laugh because I didn't have unrealistic expectations nor do I share your opinion on the song. I will, though, probably look back at this thread and all the hysterics and laugh.
It’s funny how this track has leaked for months now and, pretty much up until its release, people were excited, the overall feeling was “Its an okay song, but hell yeah we’re finally getting The General!” And then suddenly, it became an embarassing shitshow of a song that is worse than My World. The herd effect here is way too strong. All it takes is a few better known posters saying it’s shit for the dominoes to start falling and the whole boards suddenly think so too.
I don’t think The General is anything to write home about, but it’s not that bad. I do have some issues with the sound, especialy the digital drums and the sitar effect in the rhythm guitar, but other than that, it’s just a solid track, IMO. Better than Riad and Scraped, for sure, better than a few cuts off UYI and better than Anything Goes, IMO.

I for one think this sounds better than the leak. You can clearly hear a lot more going on, especially during the verses.
The only thing that bothers me is how the drums sound, especially the calmer ones, that sound really digital and programmed. I’m not even sure they’re not.
I like the vocal effects. I’m not a a big fan of clean vocals, I tend to prefer it when they receive the same treatment as the instruments, and become part of the overall sound of the song and its "aesthetic".
The song itself isn’t bad, but its also nothing to write home about either. My second favourite of the released singles so far, behind Perhaps.
Didn’t like the single’s cover. It looks like bad fanart to me. I could make something visually more appealing in like an hour 😂

What happened?
My mother in law worked for the agency responsible for the Marketing of Rock in Rio 2011. She was backstage that night. She said she wasn’t exactly sure why but Axl was refusing to go on stage for quite a while. She said it was a real headache to convince him to finally do it.

That mistake was nothing compared to the shit show that happened on stage that night. I remember looking at Axl during Sorry and thinking “well, fuck….” It was just a horrible experience. The band came on stage almost when they were supposed to be leaving, cause Axl threw a tantrum backstage, it rained like hell and people were soaked and cold… damn it was so bad.

I’m quite franckly impressed on how much GNR functions like an amateur high school band. They can’t release a fucking single on vinyl without pissing their entire fanbase out. I mean, really… how stupid can this management be?

Gene, Paul, and Ace (especially Ace) all seem like pricks to me.
Ace and Gene seem like people I wouldnt stand being 5 minutes with. Paul and Peter seem a bit better but still kinda irritating.

God they look horrible
To be fair, a good amount of the GNR fanbase is, in fact, trailer trash

saying Kiss is cringe, is as cringe as saying GNR is Co0l, criiinge. Kiss dig the Melvins, so they alright in my book, also business men of a caliber Axl could only dream of ever reaching, Kiss is the boomer version of a rnr band, Gnr is zoomer rnr
and apparently highly down to earth nice guys to boot, a rarity in the industry..
Perfect.
"omg KISS isnt a serious rock band, bunch of clowns"
say the people on a fucking GNR forum 😂
at least KISS knows damn well they’re not an "artistic" band, and they act like they’re aware of this. The worst thing is when fans of bands like GNR, AC/DC, Motorhead and Metallica think these bands are artistically rich and "serious" bands. Like "they’re badass" "KISS are posers" dude, you’re a fan of a 60 year old dude who wears a top hat and indoor sunglasses that keeps posing while he plays. Please.

I don’t get why they didn’t partner with Ace and Peter on this. Man, if it were something like “relive the 70s era KISS concerts", I’d be more excited for this than any KISS concert I’ve ever seen.

The problem is these new avatars of theirs are modeled after the current members, the way they are now.
Yeah that sucks

ABBA voyage is one of the best things I've seen and I'm no way a huge fan.
If this is as good, this will be great.
I was thinking about this. While I’d still prefer if they replaced Paul and Gene with new members, wearing the same makeup, posing as The Demon and The Starchild, I think I would like to go to an augmented reality KISS concert with no hassle at all, watching a concert from their prime. It would be awesome.

I would maybe understand this if they made the best songs ever, but they're music is mostly cringey and so are their fans. Never got the kiss hype.
I mean… this can be said about lots of bands, including GNR. It comes down to a matter of taste. I personally think KISS, their music and their fanbase are about in the same level of cringe as GNR. It comes down to personal preferences, in the end.

I’d prefer ig if Paul and Gene retired and they got replaced for newer The Demon/The Starchild, and this went on forever.

I’d say it was darker and more gruesome . Still PG13 but could easily be on the edge if it had gore/blood. Shin didn’t really show dead people much. This one was overall more violent.
Shin is the more gruesome design, though. This one is great but more like a Heisei Godzilla than something all- new and grotesque like Shin.
I wanna watch this so much

IMO, the only way up is Marty.

Quite sad Kiko left the band. Love his playing, he seems like such a nice guy, plus, it’s nice to see someone from where I was born playing in such a huge name band.

I absolutely hate the fact big metal bands like Iron Maiden, when they come to France, probably sign a exclusivity contract with Hellfest, and then, to see them, you gotta travel to Clisson, watch a gazillion bands you usually don't/won't like and then travel back home, being that 2 out of the 4 festival days are weekdays. God, I hope Maiden, by some kind of miracle, brings this show to Paris or anywhere near, next year.

Got tickets to see Minus 1 in theaters on Thursday. Pretty fired up, the reviews are awesome. I love Shin Godzilla, so I hope this can compare
Can't wait to see it but it seems it won't be in theatres here. Loved Shin Godzilla, but I think this will be a bit less dark/gruesome, while still dark, kinda like Godzilla 1985.

I like Gilby, I really enjoy his playing, but I'm not at all familiarised with his solo stuff. Haven't listened to a single second of one of his songs.

My holy grail now is Seven. It probably won’t live up to expectations but I just wanna make a playlist with The General, Monsters (Soul Monster), Atlas Shrugged and Seven while I rest and watch the sun rise on a grateful universe.
