Just listened by mistake to the 2002 version of Chinese Democracy performed in Pittsburgh. 1000000x better than bullshit version released on CD.

Steve Smith is back in Journey?! How did I miss that?!

@Towelie. No, I really don't, although I won't rule out the possibility that you are right. But Honestly, I wanted an official GOOD sounding version for so long. And even with that when it finally came out I was underwhelmed. I don't think thats cause I heard the other first. I think its cause they changed it for the worse.

Its hard to explain, but to me and many it really did. There is something I can't explain about why IRS isn't as good. I said for years about the leak "this is a hit and a great song if he just put this out officially." 7 years later or whatever he finally did, and it wasn't that different, but it was different enough that it really did lose something. Its not just overdubs, but something changed on those official releases and not for the better. I swear, I really do liste...

Chinese was an excellent album before he ruined it. All the leaks were better. TWAT was genius, Street Of Dreams needed no changes, IRS was a single, Chinese was better in its infancy. The whole album tanked once Axl tried too hard. He ruined songs that just needed to be officially released to be great.

Axl was Caught Somewhere in Time so he Wasted a lot of Years. His whole vision was a Sea of Madness and he thought that Heaven Can Wait. "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner" gameplan transformed him to a Stranger in a Strange land He got a Deja Vu and he thought that he could be Alexander the Great

Ya know in way by doing nothing (with respect to CD), Axl has sorta kept the legacy intake. I mean do you really want him to release a country album, act on a crappy cable tv show, or be a judge on some reality music show. I have no problem with musicians who do those things, but I would call it "cheesy"....Its like Jordan with the Bulls - we remember the Wizards, but that's CD..what we really remember is the Bulls. When you look at it that way, you can kinda say he has protected...
-
Absolutely not. He's ruined the legacy in a way that even Aerosmith hasn't with the stuff Tyler does. Here's the thing: you're gonna remember the good stuff anyway. So Aerosmith has made their share of terrible records, but people will always remember the classic 70s stuff. Just like people will always remember GNR's golden era. You have to fuck up bad to get people to really turn on you. Yeah, Steven has done some weird things that I don't necessarily agree with, but...

I'm listening to Steel Wheels by The Stones for the first time right now.

Not a great album at all. Very bland as has been mentioned. Best songs are Sad Sad Sad, Mixed Emotions, Can't Be Seen and Slipping Away. And on a good day, Rock And A Hard Place and Blinded By Love aren't terrible. Definitely an album where you're struggling to find the good in something that is overall very forgettable though.

Space Invader. Ace still has it.

I'm not just gonna blindly agree that Monster is awesome, but it is surprisingly good. I think I have more of a soft spot for Sonic Boom, but Cosmonaut is absolutely right that KISS fans say Monster is WAY better. Like, to many, this isn't even a contest. And if any hardcore KISS fan has taken the time to listen to those 2 records, I think you'll see that they are both pretty good. And seriously, I'm the last person that thought I'd be saying that.

KISS' newer albums are pretty good. Its just sad they don't have the original members since that is the sound they are channelling and doing it well. Ace's album is surprisingly really really good, and definitely when I hear those licks I think "Fuck, that would sound great with the KISS song on Sonic Boom or something." I don't dwell on it, but its definitely in my head that with Stanley and Simmons helping there are all in the same mindset, just not working together...
