  1. And, I hate how people call him "Fat". Honestly, if he had the jacket off, he would be about average, if not even slightly below, for a 52 year old man. He does have some aging in the face, but this is due to natural aging.

Thank you. The ONLY part of him that looks a little bigger from his younger days is a couple pounds around the middle, which happens to most of us. Of course he isn't the svelte, waify-looking, 26 year old anymore and I'm fine with that. I wouldn't be surprised if he has knee/ankle/back issues after all these years. He is certainly not heavy enough to cause massive issues to his joints just due to weight alone. I would guess he's 170? Maybe? At any rate, I hope he gets himself taken care of.

  2. oh fuck off you haters....

    .

I would venture to say that beginning a post with the above is probably not the best way to go about getting people on your side of the fence. And if getting others to consider your view was not your point, than this entire thread is pointless. Honey vs. vinegar and all that.
  3. I've said this several times. Rasp is very hard to maintain if it isn't your normal sound. Axl's speaking voice (which has also become higher over the years, if you notice) is very smooth. His natural singing voice would also be smooth. Compared to someone like Rod Stewart who sounds like he's been gargling glass for 5 decades. Much love to ROd, he's a cool motherfucker, but his speaking voice is very abrasive. He probably couldn't sing in a smooth voice if he wanted to. Axl's voice is very different. My speaking voice is smooth and I was a classical soprano for many years. It was only after actually training a rasp into my voice that I became able to cover raspy bands like ACDC and Janis Joplin. It also helps that I smoke too much. Anyway, My band always did 3 hour shows. I used rasp and rattlevoice for about half my songs and by the end of the night, I was exhausted and sounded like Bonnie Tyler when I croaked...er...spoke. I can't imagine hammering the rasp that hard for three hours straight. He's lucky he didn't end up like the guy from Cinderella with the paralyzed vocal chord.

  4. Just a few things, since it took forever to get through a few pages of this thread. I can't hear much over the crowd. Certainly not well enough to applaud or condemn his performance. Also, I agree with P5. Axl's weight has be rehashed hundreds of times on here. Who the fuck cares? First, he IS NOT fat. Is he a svelte 130 lbs that he probably was when he was cramming himself into his leather pants? No. But to be honest, I would much rather he dress the way he does and keep his performance/dancing a bit more age appropriate. Even if he was still the weight he was 25 years ago, I would be a bit put off by a man in his 50's wearing little white spandex pants and gyrating his "serpentine" on the mic stand. I realize that some people are under the impression that because he's Axl, he must always look like he did 15, 20, 30 years ago, with his long, flowing locks and his whipcord lean body but this isn't the case. He's fucking human. There is so much bitching on here about his weight, his clothes, his hats, his hair, his mustache....WHO CARES?! I want some new music. I don't give a shit if he looks like Meatloaf. I can guarantee that he presently looks far more attractive than 90% of the cupcakes on this site who feel the need to continually bash his appearance. I am here because I like this band. I love the music. I don't give a rats ass about what shirt/ pant/boot/jacket combo Axl has pulled out of his wardrobe.

I hope this tour only gets better and better. I hope we hear more rasp. I hope he wears whatever the fuck he wants.

  5. Just another note, up until about 5 days after the crash, several families were still able to call cell phones of the people on board. They would connect and ring, indicating the phones were still on. Also, several did not go to voicemail, they just stopped ringing and hung up. Now, of course, the phones are not ringing, obviously because even the hardiest of batteries would have run out but if those phones were underwater, they would have gone straight to voicemail. Now, I may not believe all the crazy stories surfacing, but if you listen to this interview, they take a call from a guy who claims to have been a pilot for 31 years adn he makes some very valid points. Take from it what you will, I thought it was intriguing.

  6. Perhaps, NGOG, you'll want to have a little more life experience before you go making blanket statements about everyone who has ever suffered depression.

    Which blanket statement?

I resent your ageist notion that only middle-aged people can say they have experienced depression.

You have gone on and on with your righteous condemnation of people who chose to attempt to or successfully commit suicide. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes before passing judgement on their actions. I didn't say a thing about middle-aged people, as I am not yet close to being middle-aged myself. I think you are young and naive to think everything is cut and dry. Some people can't just deal with it.

I think of him more as a hard-nosed Irish shit-kicker that sees life for the routinely beautiful series of cycles that it is. He might sound a bit unforgiving in his assessment but what he is saying is fundamentally accurate.
In a perfect world, sure. But this isn't Utopia. Life is a series of events that may be good and may be bad. Tell a homeless vet with debilitating PTSD that he should just get over it. Sometimes, the weight of the world is too heavy for you to get off your knees. My heart goes out to those people. I am thankful that I have risen from the ashes as many times as I have but not everyone is a stubborn as I am.

  8. I really dig them. I hope they come somewhere nearby so I can see a live show. I like how clean and just pure sort of bluesy rock they sound. It isn't overproduced and busy and hard to follow. It is music you can drink a beer to. Music you can shoot pool to. Just good, stripped down rock n roll.

  9. I don't know Axl personally so I don't feel qualified to make any judgements regarding his character and/or presence (or lack thereof) of mental issues. I do know, from personal experience, that bipolar disorders and mania are frequently misdiagnosed. I was told I was bipolar depressive (as opposed to manic) many years ago. The symptoms emerged after several years of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. I was medicated for several years, each medication eventually causing worse symptoms than I originally presented with. After several years, many medications, and repeated moments of emotional meltdown, I said "fuck it" and stopped taking anything. It's been almost 8 years since I touched medication and I'm far better than I ever was. I had a temporary, stress related depression that doctors misdiagnosed and fed me meds which made me worse. It was only after someone, a holistic provider, looked at all the facts and said "you know....I think you are depressed BECAUSE of the medication" that we figured out that was the problem. Do I have bad days? Sure, everyone does. But since being OFF medication, I haven't felt the need to swan dive off an overpass like I did WHILE medicated. Sometimes, doctors really are pushing meds to get a bonus. Not saying this is the case with Axl but - it looks really fishy to me that he had the same therapist for so many years, I'm sure making BIG money for her sessions with him, AND she was even featured in the Don't Cry video. Looks to me like someone was using Axl's "bipolar" issues as a cash cow. Now, I'm sure he does have issues but I think if he had real care, he would flourish. Just my opinion.

  10. *shrug* I thought it was funny. And while he may not have been chosen for VR, didn't I see that he was singing with KOC? Perhaps Slash didn't think his sound was right for VR, not that he lacked talent. I swear, people here just attack everybody.

Axl is my favorite rock singer of all time. But I can't even fathom basing everything I like or dislike on how it pertains to him. So another rock singer said something negative about my favorite singer? Who cares. These guys aren't friends of mine. They aren't family members. Why would any of us give a crap what these two guys think about each other? It's interesting to see what peers have to say about each other - for sure. I get that. But for a "fan" to get mad about it and then go on rants about how evil and horrible one of them is? It's childish and idiotic. Especially when you know that if Taylor had praised Axl and said how awesome he was.......the posts in this topic would be 100% different. "Oh, I always liked and respected Corey. Cool to see he loves Axl too."

    Agree 100%.
