for my money(and i've been to way over 200 concerts) GNR is up there with the greatest performers. the one thing i think actually takes away from the overall rating of a guns show is it is too long. If shows were closer to 2 hours the setlists could be way different since they couldnt pack all the same songs in each night. they must be exhausted after the shows...3 hours is a long time up there and im sure it takes a toll on their performance. But with my money no one puts on better shows than les claypool or mike patton. Each one has different shows all the time, very energetic and intimate and shows are almost always 2 hours or less. only other band who i think is as good or better than GUNS as far as big bands is Pearl Jam. Different show every time and the crowd is so into it...

for me it would make me respect both of them more. for someone like axl i would imagine it is very hard to forgive someone who you felt has wronged you so terribly. for someone like slash to admit wrong doing and look bad(for a short time anyway) in the publics eye...a huge step for both.(also not saying everything is slash's fault)

its always diffferent when you are talking about members leaving and members dying in regards to being replaced. AIC were done anyway as Layne didn't want to work with them or even like the band anymore. If he lived and they continued to record/tour under AIC i would not accept it. Since he passed, and realizing most of AIC was cantrell anyway i think they do they name justice. you can never replace a voice as powerful or emotional as laynes, but the band holds true to the bands sound imo.
Gnr on the other hand have just replaced an entire band. I am not opposed to that, but the band that replaced the original band has been replaced as well...the current incarnation of gnr is at the bottom of the scrotum pole if you ask me. only ones deserving of being in the band is fortus and stinson(dizzy and pitman i guess) now i love cd, but its sound was way different than any other gnr work and a few songs on the album should have never seen the light of day(rhiad, scraped, this i love, and even though i love it shacklers) as some are subpar and some sound nothing like gnr. to bring new members in and completely change the sound didn't help them draw fans back.
winner...AIC

Remembering Axl saying years ago he is saving "the big guns" for the next album I am hopeful(and maybe delusional) to think we will get a few new songs similar to the rio show all those years ago. Maybe also a re-introduction to OMG and Silkworms. I can also see them playing a few more Illusion songs, maybe along the lines of bad obsession, yesterdays, or breakdown as I don't think he would have much trouble with the vocals on those tracks. I am really excited as I feel that how long it has been between albums(2008-?) that it is building the anticipation for the band and what will and come next.
-
maybe he knew him showing up would make it a spectacle and had more respect for shannon and his family than to do something like that. some people, myself included, rarely attend funerals as i feel its for family and should not be treated as a social gathering of people who knew them once upon a time and anyway they make me unconfortable.

even if the illusions lineup(minus izzy) did an album say around 95/96, it just wouldn't hold up to the guns vault in my opinion. he really made everyone better in the band in one way or another. as popular as axl/slash/duff were to the media and public, izzy had always been my favorite and knew things wouldn't be the same once he left. was never one to really bash anyone in the media either.
-
of course they have since to mass media they didnt have one legitimate single on CD whereas this would have gotten significant radio play. probably didnt make album bc it doesnt fit the sound of cd at all.

This site was like a breath of fresh air....reading old stories when things were happening, so many possibilities, anticipation...axl seemed so excited on what was to come. makes me really sad to see where everything is now even though I have fully accepted the future of the band. funny that there were still slash rumors/possibilities of coming back for a few years from 97-99 and then all of a sudden he was hated by axl.(especially since they had no contact with each other)
-
i wonder when axl sees some other musician he had looked up to or toured with when he was early on in GNR and now sees them like 20-25 years later, do they have the balls to even try to talk about what happened with the degeneration of the original lineup or are they all well aware that it is not to be spoken of...especially slash.
-
i know what alledgedly happened...i just wish we would get the real story. something never sat right with me about it. pretty sure slash never responded after it was said he showed up bc he was so sure VR would be huge and didnt want to jeopordize that. too bad he had a head case for a lead singer. bet he regrets not making ammends back then now...
-
the answer to me would have to be with why slash showed up at axls place in like 2005/2006 or so. what was his intent, would axl be even willing to listen, why was there never an attempt again....AND wtf actually happened that day.

There are many similarities in the making of the albums and of the men themselves as artists. Both drove band members crazy with their narcicistic standards in some instances driving members away. Both are in my opinion some of the greatest amercian song writers. Both lived sheltered existences while creating their "masterpiece". Both had tremendous amounts of pressure from the record label. The main difference is brian wilson was able to make peace with himself and his mental issues before releasing the amaing piece of music which is smile, and axl released CD while he was still a complete head case(and probably still is) thereby damaging his image as an artist releasing something that many considered good at best. Maybe if he waited a full 30 years like brian CD would have been the album we all hoped it would be.

we named my daughter megan rose. when you are in the hospital room the nurses write "welcome" in big letters and their name down on the bottom. i took the dry erase marker and wrote "to the jungle" so it said "welcome to the jungle megan rose". my wife did not find it amusing. if we have a son my wife said no to axl....i said thats find bc whatever his legal name is i will call him axl anyway.

It's crazy to say there's too much guns music, but this album(s) i always thought would have been regarded much greater if it had been only 1 album. I personally LOVE most songs , but like every track on both albums. BUT if i could just have made it one album:
1-Civil War
2-Dust N' Bones
3-14 Years
4-Yesterdays
5-Don't Cry(original version)
6-November Rain
7-Estranged
8-Perfect Crime
9-Bad Obsession
10-Double Talkin' Jive
11-You Could Be Mine
12-Locomotive
13-Dead Horse
14-Coma
Your typical A side B side album with two different feels

the osaka show of scraped was amazing in my opinion and i just dont think prostitue sounds good live. where as on the album i think scraped is just good and prostitute is amazing.

i am on every day but almost never sign in...i just cant take andrecc....ban this annoying fuck. biggest fucking poser. on the subject though, brain is brilliant. sorum just never really fit in my opinion. adler is great for appetite, but not sure he could have taken his skills any further musically. would have held them back going forward. frank is weakest imo. brain hands down shits on them all.

same interior artwork etc as regular version right?
-
Really? Never saw it before. I doubt people would be selling that cover let alone the site having 9 of them no?
-
Are they just putting a generic cover to it or is that real?

i know i get so psyched when a new tour starts...i only wish axl got as pumped as me. This could be the start of something great or the demise of many hardcore fans...GnR and axl have always been and always will be my favorites, but I'm drawing a line in the sand tonight. Performance and passion has to improve.
