  1. and maybe that's why Axl didn't release it in the form it got leaked?

Was it supposed to be a video with a scenario etc like the old vids? Anyone can guess what the reason it was not ever released was?

Does Axl have official or unofficial but stated plans for a new video?

IMO the video never came out because the band had different members . There was no brain, fink or bucket - why release a video of live shots of member that are no longer in the band?

  2. Motley Crue played a 12 show residency without any cancelations because of ticket sales.I could be wrong but I would say if they can do it I highly doubt GNR would have a problem.

Motley is a bigger draw in the USA then GnR... Plus they have all the original members. I like GnR a lot better and agree Axl is a way better performer than Vince. With that being said lets see what happens. I would doubt they would just cancel shows. they can give tickets away at the hotel or have huge walk up sales day of show. Lots of ways to generate revenue day of show

  3. I remember Axl saying in an interview. He didn't avoid the media just wasn't a whore for the limelight and didn't talk w/ them unless he had something to promote.

Maybe he has a lot to say or this could be as simple a contractual obligation to hard rock to promote the Vegas shows. Who knows w/ Axl??

  4. I too hope he's not all covered up in hat, jacket and sunglasses but in the end I don't really care.

The one thing that makes me think this interview is more than just to promote appetite for democracy is that it airs a few days prior to the residency actually starting. I would think a promotional interview would be a month prior or at least a couple of weeks to give people time to plan trips.

It'll be cool to see Axl doing an interview. Looking forward to it

  5. It always makes me laugh when people call Axl a "hasbeen" and other such derogatory insults. To me, the definition of a hasbeen is someone who continues in their chosen field despite continually waning popularity and relevance (Sebastian Bach, Motley Crue, Def Leopard etc). These are people who continue to make new music but the sale figures are poor and they regularly tour but the venues are increasingly remote.

Okay, GNR is no longer a stadium band, but Axl still performs in respectable world-class arenas the world over! How many other so-called "hasbeens" can play venues like the London o2 Arena on consecutive nights??

The key difference between Axl's GNR and many other 80s rock acts in 2012 is that he CHOSE to take a hiatus from 94-2000 and he CHOSE to only release one album in the last 20 years. Frustrating as that is, he is the one calling the shots and the truth is, he has thousands of people in the palm of his hand waiting on his next move.

Granted, Chinese Democracy didn't set the world on fire like AFD or UYI, but who these days is selling those kind of figures?? The days of epic million-dollar music videos and albums selling 10-20 million+ ended long before 2008, so to place these kind of expectations on Axl's GNR is hugely unfair. The reality is, if Axl dropped a new album next month, it would almost certainly enter the top 5 on Billboard which is not something many "hasbeens" could achieve.

I will agree with you that Axl is not a has been... Anytime anyone can go out and demand several 100-thousand dollars a show is not "has-been" Now I am not Crue fan at all but I dont think you can call Motley has beens either. They still do very well while touring and headline major festivals just Like GnR. I will say Motley is cheesy but not has-beens same with Def Leopard

  6. Why would slash ever have Myles when he has Todd Kerns in the band... Todd is twice the singer and a way better songwriter

    listen to him do Jungle...

I have to say that version of WTTJ is much better than the one Myles did a while back. I agree Todd is a pretty kick ass singer and does a hell of a job on Dr Alibi. But for the most part Myles does an admirable job. Singing Axl's songs is no easy task.

For anyone saying Myles can't sing, has no charisma and stage presence, etc., I can only think that you haven't seen this band live. He's actually a great frontman. connects really well with the crowd, has a very cool vibe on stage, looks like he's having a kick ass time doing his thing, and on top of all that, has an amazing voice. Combined with the aura of Slash and a really talented band, it was by far the best show I've seen all year. And that includes seeing a nuGNR show.

I agree I've seen them twice now and this band is great. If just a straight up RnR show. Which IMO is great Axl is still doing major productions which is cool too, but just like UCAP its cool to see things striped down from time to time

  7. I have never really though too much about who he got it.

But consider for a minute the band had already dismissed Adler for drug abuse and not being able to perform the songs.

It is also well documented that Duff and Slash where both a fucked up mess during the UYI tour.

    Izzy had left the band.

Axl was pretty much clean of drugs and booze for quit sometime.

I think the contract being redone was done by the record label and management to not only have a new contract with GNR but to have Axl take more of active roll in running the band.

During this time I think the record company and management PUSHED Axl to take control of GNR and it's brand name. I don't think it was his idea but I am sure it made sense considering the demons the other band members where battling.

That way if a member OD's or gets to fucked up to play they could be basically fired and replaced and that person would not have any recourse as far as GNR keeping going along after them.

DO I think this went to Axls head? Yes and No.

I think Axl wanted Gilby out and and when an outside guitarist was brought in to record with the band for Symphony For the Devil. For some stupid reason I can't remember his name.

I also think Axl took the old band breaking up completely very hard because he was the one in charge and the weight of the world was on his shoulders.

I am not saying his is innocent by no means I just think he gets a bad rap for everything in the fans eyes he is the bad guy and done everything wrong to fuck up GNR when most likely it was a community effort as far as Duff and Slash. Again Axl has made mistakes no doubt...

Axl definetly has his faults but I think there is no doubt management / label put the idea in his head. If that wasn't the case the label wouldn't have invested so much into CD. When it was clear Slash and Duff were going to be OK and Axl wasted so much money w/o any new material. I'm sure that all changed but that's JMHO

  8. is it just me that understands ron ?? i have chronic pain too and im always pissed off...at work, at home...everywhere ! so cut the guy some slack

fighting chronic pain , depression and getting a million hate/stupid/annoying messages on FB everyday isnt easy !

I've had back surgery and have screws and plates in my neck and yes it sucks dealing with it every day. Don't go on FB and those annoying messages go away. If bbf is w/ his family having dinner why is he conversing on FB w/ someone he doesn't know?

  9. I honestly do not know... If the person mis-quoted BBF and left out "LOL" and other things that pointed towards joking then I get BBF being upset. But if the person posted exactly what BBF wrote then I understand why the person posted it. BBF should know better than to stand on the assumption of a "private conversation" that wont find its way onto the internet especially with someone he doesnt know personally. The internet and text messages are a great way to communicate and get information fast but people tend to read stuff more literal than they hear stuff. There is no voice inflection in writing.

I honestly think BBF was in a bad mood and it was stupid on his part to let some fan "bother" him on FB while he was with his family. Last time I checked if you're not on FB no one can bother you. If you're with your family dont go on FB while at dinner and this stuff wont happen. Pretty simple if you ask me and yes I think BBF coming to MYGNR was some backpedaling on his part

  10. Does anyone know if the reason they dumped so much material at once was because of the volatility of the band? For instance, did they know it was all falling apart and think "shit, let's get it all out there so that we have a greater legacy left behind?".

From interviews regarding the recording of those albums it seemed the band had some "older" songs like don't cry and YCBM but the overall writing process was done seperately. Basically I think Axl said it was members saying I won't do your song if u don't do mine. So they threw them all on the table and came up w/ 2 albums kind of brilliant but overall a little bloated

  11. I saw him in Jacksonviile FL back in May and caught him before the show. He was a lil hesitant but ended up Signing my album and my friend took pics. He's handler said he would sign for everyone after the show as well. Real cool guy

  12. I remember reading in a magazine somewhere, that Used To Love Her was actually about Axl’s dog. Is this true? Or was it one of those things, where he came up with the lyrics, and everyone was looking for an explanation?

I also remember reading a LONG time ago that it was about Axl's dog as well

  13. Marc, first of all thank for answering everyone's questions.

I've always wondered why it seems Axl doesnt embrace his past accomplishments. Even-though he's upset with Slash, why do you think he never wants to mention the old band? Take the HOF for example: he didnt want to celebrate all his hard work in the past, do something nice for the fans and then continue what he's doing? Also take the Activation lawsuit. Slash helped write Jungle yet Axl was adamant about not having Slash's likeness associated with the song on the game. From a business stand point none of this makes sense! IMO when Axl came back in 2002 with the corn-rows it was almost like he wanted to look SO different and so no-one associated him with the old band. To me I think it is Axl attitude towards the original band that has made the fan-base so divided.

I get he doesnt like Slash or hates him. But look how bad it makes him look to sue a video game that Im sure Axl made money of off because they used Slash's image on a song he helped write? He doesnt have to be Slash's friend ofr ever play with him, but embrace what they created together. IMO that would help him sell more concert tickers, more albums and all in all make GnR bigger than it is today. I hope what Im writing makes sense. I dont want this to be an Axl vs Slash thing because thats no my intentions.

It does make sense what you are saying but thats just how Axl feels about it. Even through Axl will make money on the old stuff, he doesn't want Slash too. So he would rather no one make anything off of it. Until Axl finds away to get rid of his anger for Slash, this is how it will be. If you knew how much pain Axl thinks Slash has caused him, then you would almost understand why he does the things he does to stop the old band from showing off what they accomplished. It's very sad to see that they can't enjoy all the things that they have earned.

I guess in the end its sad things are this way. It has also caused such a division amongst fans. I will never understand why fans (especially) cannot respect the past while embracing the future.

  15. Still, $2.6 million GROSS for the 14 date tour in 2012 isn't that good really. Yes, there are other markets of course, but being known as an Amercian band who can't do big business in their home country (One of, if the not THE biggest markets for rock music) must be a bit annoying!

Interested to see the Vegas shows still, wish I could afford to go over and check it out.

I believe that was for the UCAP tour so the number will be down. Those shows ave 200k. In Regenue Not bad for small theatre type places. Probably 20% of the arena production and only about 150k less per show in revenue.

  16. If anything this thread shows promoters are still willing to book GNR because they're profitable. Wether GNR sells 1 ticket or 10,000 they still get paid, that simple. It's the promoters who take all of the risk. They're still booking them that means there's a demand and money to be made.

You're correct... if the ave show has an attendance of 6,500 if each person only spent $25 on food and beverage thats $162,500K right there. Promoters aren't stupid and they will make their money. Not every act can draw like the Stones or ACDC but that doesnt mean promoters will turn their nose up to a lesser payday as long as there is a profit to be made.
