  1. Explain how GNR had a "bloated" tour and U2 didn't?

U2 didn't bring a horn section, a female backup singer section, or Dizzy Reed. They have always performed as just the four of them.

U2 didn't blow all of their concert money on backstage theme parties for cadres of leeches (like Del James).

The zoo tv tour was kind of over the top though with costume changes and interactive video screens. I wouldnt call it a stripped down tour
  2. one (Kurt again) showed with his few albums a lot more in the way of talent than the other.

That is some bullshit right there.

Sorry but one of em can only sing (albeit exceptionally), the other is lauded for some of the best songwriting to come out of popular music, some pretty different guitar playing of the sort that you've not really heard in the mainstream since and in his own way a strange impassioned voice that spoke to millions of millions of people. Axl doesn't really have anything but a very good voice to his credit.

You've completely overlooked Axl's songwriting abilities. And as a musician Axl is far more gifted on the piano than Kurt is on the guitar. Any tryhard who's played guitar for six months could master Kurts fairly rudimentary guitar playing on Nevermind.

You miss the point though, millions of people who have never even picked up a guitar in their life can learn to play the start of Come As You Are within literally 5-10 minutes but only one person ever managed to write it.
Yeah Killing joke wrote it, the song eighties
  3. Whenever somebody brings up the factual evidence that GnR's album and concert numbers have been dwindling, Axl's defense team are always quick to point out that we arrogant Americans think that the world revolves around the US and that GnR is a global band and not just an American band.

They imply that we are just trying to be negative and are missing the point on how popular and successful GnR is.

Being somebody who likes to look at both sides of the argument get all opinions before making up my mind, I decided to do a little research and was shocked to find these numbers. I thought for sure that the numbers would all be reversed from what they actually turned out to be.

Here are "certified" album sales, by country. The numbers are a little lower than you would expect, as the numbers your favorite band "tells" you are often not correct. Bands often exaggerate or use different counting methods, then fans/reporters hear that number and exaggerate or round up, etc. But this is actually certificate album sales, not the number a band tells you. Anyway -

    • So GnR has sold more albums in the United States than they have sold in EVERY other country combined.............this is confusing, as according to some posters on here, GnR shouldn't be concerned with their US numbers as they are a global based band who is more popular overseas than they are in the US. The numbers show that this is clearly not the case. But some people are really adamant that they are.
    • Your thoughts on the actual numbers?
    You gathered round 66m total.

    Where's half of it?

    Other source:

The band has released six studio albums to date, accumulating sales of MORE than 100 million records worldwide,[9] including shipments of 45 million in the United States,[10] making them one of the worlds best-selling bands of all time.

    He only put certified sales
  4. Thats how i see it, Guns became like Zepp or the Beatles, they sold 100 million records in 4 years. Thats what Zepp sold their whole career. So as Guns shot through the stratosphere, the wings got burnt off. Stevie died on launch, the smart ones press the ejector seat. Axl went down with wreckage. We recovered the body 20 years later. What we need is the black box from the ship.

    Zeppelin sold 200-400 million
  5. He's not talking about GNR. At all. He's talking about bands like White Lion, Great White, etc. who can't fill small venues. Yeah, GNR play 3/4 full stadiums, but when they play small venues, they sell out easily.

3/4 full stadiums? When was the last time they did a stadium tour besides a few stadium shows in south america?

Who cares? Are you their business manager?

    Are you their masseuse?
  6. HOF was another example of how they could cleared the air but chose to throw Axl under the bus. Slash could have worked to get current Guns to play. Share the stage.

They had no business being there, they weren't the inductees. I hated the fact that Heart played the next year with the classic lineup, which sounded amazing. But it was only one song, and they then left the stage, the current hired hands came on and butchered Barracuda.
it would have been a good gesture and could have led to a better chance of reunion. It reinforced the scenario that they themselves have admitted isnt really true. Duff has anyway. Its just an example of how they keep that story running. thats not what grown ups do.

In this case it could have been a resolution to the end the war. Who cares if the butchered Scom, which they wouldnt.

Thats true, but they should do that on their own time, not when Guns N Roses is getting honored. They were getting honored for stuff that new Guns has had nothing to do with, aside from keeping it out there which it already would have been without them. I'm not against all the members of old and new Guns sharing the stage, but it shouldn't be at a junction when very specifically the people that made the music are being honored. It made literally zero sense for new Guns to be there, and even if it was a nice gesture for the old guys to invite them, there would be no reason for it. Brian Johnson furthered the legacy of AC/DC. He deserves to be inducted with them. Its not really their fault, but people like Richard Fortus haven't been given the opportunity to further the legacy of Guns N Roses so they shouldn't be honored as if they have.

I've read a few interviews over the past 10yrs and he's had a few choice words about his time with the band and Axl but I couldn't find them on the internet, It was mostly from Rocksound, Metalhammer or classic rock... I'm sure it's archived somewhere. I know Axl didn't like slash's book.

he probably didn't like this either

    Velvet+Revolver+Halloween.jpg

That person really looks like Duff!

Who ever would have thought that Duff would look like Duff?

I don't get it. Whats it a picture of? I thought maybe it was a bunch of people dressed up as Guns N Roses so I thought it was someone being Duff. I don't get what the picture is or why Izzy would be upset about it.

It's VR dressed up as GN'R. Slash is Bucket, Weiland is Axl and I think Duff is Pittman.

Not sure why Izzy would be upset though.

Tom2112 said axl would be upset, not izzy
  7. He should've reunited at the RnR HOF, but he fucking blew it. It's too late now.

Geez I'm amazed how many people do not understand that RnR HoF was nothing more than one dirty set up. By RnR HOF standards they should induct every member ( yes new line up as well) exactly like it happened with RHCP.

    Delusional.
  8. Axl is an extremely gifted songwriter, far more so than jon bon jovi or steven tyler (who are also great songwriters).

Axl will never hire a Desmond Child type figure to weite music for him. Just like he'll never reunite with GNR. It's not him.

I believe his bandmates sometimes carry him. He doesn't write the instrumentals most of the time, except on the piano based songs, so other people are making the building blocks of the songs.
  9. I listened to it a couple more times yesterday. I certainly don't hate it, but I'm not loving it nearly as much as others. I think a final mix would go a long way for my appreciation.

Hopefully the final version will have more Axl on it.

His background vocals are what turns this from an average song into something special.

Really? I thought the opposite. I thought his backing vocals were out of place and too high pitched.

I see a lot of people saying that on the forum.

    Musical preference, I guess!

But I got chills when I heard the high pitched vocals. It reminded me why I love the sound of Axl's voice so much.

I'd kind of accepted the fact that we may never get another album from Axl....or at least not one for several years. But when I heard his backing vocals it just made me really start wishing that we had new songs coming up ASAP!!!

I think many of us die-hard fans are so infatuated with the idea of new music from this guy that we'll appreciate anything we get. But I realize sometimes the element that I'm appreciating in the song (just loving the guy's voice) isn't as appealing to average person. For example I listened to those Baz tracks he guested on years back a bunch of times, but without his voice on them I'd have never played them. They weren't particularly good imo, yet I'm such a fan of Axl's voice I didn't even care, I played them over and over. I think Going Down probably works best without Axl's voice from a more 'objective' standpoint of sorts, as it does seem a bit awkward at times and I think the average listener might find it out of place, almost like it's just there because he's Axl and people expect him to be on a GN'R track. I love Axl's voice so much though that for me, hearing him doing those trademark high pitched squeals (even if the rasp is gone) is awesome, and so of course I'm going to prefer hearing the song with him on it. And I do really enjoy (and think this is something he's gotten better at as he's aged) how he's sort of turned his vocals into a real melody-matcher, sometimes he's just kind of whining/rasping a bit over the melody of the song (like on those live KOHD performances since '02) and it's pretty beautiful to be honest, it's kind of what he's doing on Going Down, but I realize someone who isn't a fan of Axl's voice would find it grating.

I totally agree with this. I'm a huge fan of Axl's voice, not the high clean voice as much as his 80's/90's rasp, but I still love his singing. I just think the song has to suit his style for it to work. IMO in Going Down it sounds like his vocals are just there because he needed to be on the track. I like the song though.

  11. NGOG, how can a man that says "suck me" to a fan be somewhat competent? He is not at all. The fan is an asshole, but that doesnt change anything. He shouldn't behave like that as GnR official manager.

That's why I like Vanessa - she doesnt get into those stupid online wars.

With all due respect, that guy was taking a shot at Fernando's mother. Good or bad, that is a factor. I know I tend to get protective or defensive of my mother.

    Ali

However, an individual in a management position should remain professional. It is his job to represent Guns N' Roses in s professional manner. In what other management position can an individual use that language to a guest/fan/contact and keep his position?
  12. I don't see Axl releasing an Indie Rock album, I just don't see it... He actually really liked Grunge and Industrial Rock.

Interesting fact though: Axl stated on one of his last interviews that his favorite album from the past years was Black Key's El Camino.

Black Keys isn't exactly Indie, but it's very "modern rock."

Black Keys are blues. Listen to their records, mostly straight blues
  13. People on here are so starved for new music that they've convinced themselves that Goin' Down is a great song as opposed to the generic rock song that it is in reality.

Sorry to disappoint you, but all of the old songs are too generic as well.
Generic is a term put out by pretentious hipster fucks who think their favorite bands are the most original things ever, when in reality there are rarely bands with a completely new, innovative sound.
