  1. The last thing Axl needs is to become a solid boring reliable nostalgia circuit act. That is the fastest route to irrelevancy.

Unfortunately that is what it looks like he has settled for now that it is blatantly obvious that there is no hope of any further material for the foreseeable future.

The only thing that kept Axl somewhat relevant was the air of mystery surrounding CD and the multiple public fuck-ups along the way that kept people talking about him, even if 90% of that talk was ridicule.

He hasn't even got that going for him now.

He's become a boring old codger.

  2. TIL is the ONLY CD song that has shit written all over it - it's a real shame that Axl refused to promote it properly and release a single, now it's just too late and a big wasted chance...

    FYP lol

A million youtube ratings can't be wrong...

Suck on the 98% Like ratio of youtube videos of TIL haters!

    Youtube rating mean FUCK ALL.

If they count then Justin Bieber must be better than GNR.

And why is that video showing Slash?

  3. The more this guy opens his mouth the more I am convinced that he is a paranoid nut.

"Lots of people say and twist things and have done so over the years for their own purposes based on gossip, hearsay, unsubstantiated media nonsense and even outright lies, especially when money may be involved and/or if they're trying to make problems for others"

Will he ever he ever get the fuck over it already? He says that and we all know where the past lives thing came from - his mouth and Beta's.

Is he even conscious of how deeply deluded and creepy he is beginning to sound?

  4. Janie's Got A Gun - Aerosmith

    Song 2 - Blur

Lay Lady Lay - Bob Dylan

Iron Lion Zion - Bob Marley

Adam Raised A Cain - Bruce Spingsteen

Should I Stay Or Should I Go - The Clash

    Roadhouse Blues - The Doors

    Epic - Faith No More

    The Chain - Fleetwood Mac

Cry For Love - Iggy Pop

Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush

    Kashmir - Led Zeppelin

    Perfect Day - Lou Reed

    Unfinished Sympathy - Massive Attack

Hey Hey, My My - Neil Young

    True Faith - New Order

    Lithium - Nirvana

    Morning Glory - Oasis

    Angie - The Rolling Stones

The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy

Would love to hear the Illusions Era line-up tackle the above, interpret them their own way and see what happens.

  5. It's the nursery rhyme lyrics. Cringeworthy. The gulf in difference between Axl's other ballads and TIL is jawdropping. Serious falling off there, much like the rest of CD with the exception of perhaps TWAT.

Definitely. It's a shame that the same Axl Rose from AFD and UYIs wrote those boring and awful lyrics for Chinese Democracy. Just awful.

Sure...for instance Patience & Don't Cry have much more complex and less 'cheesy' lyrics than TIL....

    You said it.

Arre you seriously comparing two classics to the "How now brown cow" jibberish of TIL?

People on this forum wear such rose tinted glasses it is hilarious.

CD has only proven one thing, the mystic surrounding Axl Rose is no more. The Emperor has no clothes. Axl is a busted flush and is no different to the other former members when it comes to quality of output. NONE of them have come close to achieving the same songwriting ability as what they made together. Axl is GNR only in name.

To be honest, Slash has less "clothing" than Axl does if you wanna kick that can again. Axl is not what he was, but his music is far superior than the crap VR (sans 2 decent songs which just sound like GNR without Axls singing). And for the 1,000,006th time. You are here, and not on VR.com for a reason.

All this ballad crap seems okay for Slash now though huh?

You seem to have misread my post. Read it again. I said NONE OF THEM HAVE COME CLOSE. This includes Slash.

If it makes you feel better I think Gotten and Starlight are a pile of shit too.

TIL is the worst ballad though, by a country mile.

to be honest, i'll bet everyone other than beta made fun of TIL when they heard it. slash and duff were just in a position that they could do it to axl's face.

Yeah. How many goddamn songs does he have to release about Stephanie Seymour? It's one thing when it is actually a decent song, it's another when it is Meatloaf territory schmaltz.

  7. Probably better off Axl didn't show. He is too unreliable vocally these days. Imagine he did show and deliver a Bridge School type performance. Next to the brilliance displayed by everyone else that night, particularly Steven and Slash, it would have only confirmed his status as a washed up singer to the rest of the world outside these forums, fitting in exactly with every other high profile event that he has blown for the best part of a decade now.

I'm more surprised and disappointed with Izzy. I fully expected Dizzy however to toe the bosses line, in keeping with his pattern over the years.

  8. I think Axl has lost a bit of his flair style wise. Those ripped jeans, studded leather and t-shirts are starting to look a little too much like mid life crisis territory.

Now the picture of him with Muhammed Ali looks great. Smart even.

I think he should adopt a less is more approach.

He should avoid the ripped jeans, anything with patches, anything that looks vaguely Ashbaswag, and choose better leather jackets - those studs are awful - reminds me of Rob Halford and with the handlebar tasch it all looks a little too much like he walked out of The Tool Box nightclub in Waynes World or the Blue Oyster Bar in Police Academy.

He wears too much chunky jewellery too.

Overall, it is not a good look by any means.

  9. Marc,

I've noticed a lot of people seem to be really afraid of Axl, particularly when it comes to anything that might upset him, to the extent that people try to hide things from him or deal with issues pertaining to Axl without his knowledge in some kind of misguided sense of loyalty in an effort to protect him.

Just what is it about an "upset" Axl that scares so many people that know him?

I know he is your friend but from an outsiders perspective it really makes him sound like a psychologically unhinged person who is a danger to both himself and indeed perhaps even a threat to others when "upset".

The whole thing sounds really UNHEALTHY - like an elaborate circus designed to keep Axl in a bubble and on the road making money.

I fear this will all end badly should Axl ever be forced to actually deal with reality for a change.

I often wonder how he would cope if for whatever reason this elaborate bubble that has been constructed around him were to ever collapse and expose him to the real world.

It's all a bit too close to Michael Jackson territory for my liking.
