  1. I'm sorry, but all that shit is just gaudy as fuck and terrible.

Of course, if you wear it wrong and without style or conviction, anything can be. But worn the right way I prefer anything that projects a sense of style and character than safe and boring. I guess that's just a personal preference.

As Diana Vreeland once said: "I'd rather be vulgar than boring".

And how do you think McCoy will be wearing them?

That's really not my concern. My point was that cowboys boots are not naff or gaudy, it's the wearer that makes them that.

I love seeing someone wear something that is really not 'cool' or 'edgy', but wear it well. And then everyone knows that it looks good on that person and if they tried the same it would look totally crap.

  3. Probably gonna order my new boots this week. I'm leaning towards the cherry ones that Red found.

If you want black cherry ones for under $200 then get these ones. http://www.sheplers.com/Tony-Lama-Regal-Americana-Boots/9665.pro?parentCategoryId=447&categoryId=263&subCategoryId=264

Nice boots! I thought these were quite scrumptious as well. I like the tan better than the black cherry, the leather looks lovely. :)

  4. Oh, and I've been getting up at 6 and getting home anywhere between 6:30 and 8:30 for years now (depending what day of the week it is). Actually a few years ago i was getting up between 3:30 and 5:30. Now I get a luxury sleep in. Wanna have another whinge?

  5. Reading your book?

Give me a fucking break! I reckon you're browsing the forum, not reading some book. :P

Well that's where you'd be wrong deary! I've not read a lot regularly in ages so I've made a point recently of putting the phone away and reading for the half hour or so it takes me to get too and from work every day. It's time that I'd otherwise waste and I can get through a reasonable sized book in a week like that. :)

Oh right, so you're back to back to posting on work hours. ;)

  6. Why don't these people drink the coffee in their house, work or in the shop they have bought it rather than walking around town like a posey dickhead? Anyhow, Brits should drink tea. It is what the empire was built on. Leave coffee to the australians and yanks.

I guess it's part of their morning routine. I always pick up a tea from the Costa in the train station on a morning. I'll drink it on the train while I read my book on the way to work. All very civilised and that. :)

I'm not vouching for quality here but from the site you showed me, I thought they were quite fucking cool. They'll last a reasonable amount of time because the vamp and heel counter are genuine leather. It's a pity the shaft wasn't leather as well but that's why they were so cheap. But I also get that price is often and easily a factor. It's all nice and well lusting after a pair of divinely crafted boots but if the money isn't there, it's just not fucking there.

I recently bought a pair of over the knee boots. I found a pair I was lusting after. Saved up the $815. Went into town to buy them from a department store. While I was trying them on I saw about 20 metres away another shoe brand that also had a gorgeous over the knee boot on display. I thought I'd better try them on as well, just to be certain. I tried them on. They looked BETTER! Heaps better! And the best bit of all? They were leather (like the $815 ones), but were $389!!!! I couldn't believe it! OMFG!!!! I bought them and are wearing them frequently. They're great quality. Just as good, if not better than the $815 boots (based on the blog photos I've seen of the expensive boots). And they go even better with my clothes than the others would have. Sometimes, price is not the issue.

And then I went and bought another pair of shoes I had been lusting after with a portion of the change I would have got from the expensive boots. ;)

  8. Just cut my long hair after much delaying. Is that fashion?Idk but I'm itchy.

You might wanna shower this week.
What? Are you implying that I don't shower?? Lol, far from it. Very far. A little too far.

Do you have OCD? If so the itching might be on account of excessive soap use which is aggravating your skin. Or your head. Or wherever else you might have itchiness. IDK where the hair was that you cut.

  9. I don't wear a lot of black in general and I match up my shoes with my clothes. I'm of Irish heritage, so I'm fair skinned, relatively fair haired and hazel eyed. Black isn't my color. Contrary to what some will say, black does not look good on everyone.

Totally agree! I've gone through a bit of an anti black stage lately and I only buy black shoes to go with my all black outfits which is mostly for work. I really find black rather boring and love a lot of colour. My favourite leather colours for shoes are tan (like a good rich cognac tone) or dark burgundy/cherry.

Have been eyeing up these over the weekend

How thick are the soles? While I like Vans and Converse plimsole style shoes I find the soles a bit thin for my liking.

Interesting you say that because an old pair of converse I bought 7 years ago have quite thick soles and the two pairs I've bought in the last 2 years have much thinner soles. Cheapening off, but not putting prices down. :max:

  10. All coffee is the same. It is just stuff you drink to keep you awake. All these terms - Latte, Capucino, Espresso - are just stupid words for what is a very simple thing: a cup of coffee. I think people pose with coffee because they want to look like a character from Friends, with a trendy little urban lifestyle: ''look at me and my gigantic coffee. i am a cock''. Bollocks.

I do believe you have been to Italy. Did you learn NOTHING while you were there??????????

I think you'd better book another trip and let the Italians teach you a thing or two about beverages. :P

Then again this. It amazes me how much a lot of people have zero clue on what constitutes a good coffee.
With all fairness to Dies, if one doesn't drink coffee one wouldn't know, would they? It's like saying all red wine tastes the same.

What gets me are 'baristas' who don't drink coffee! I'm stunned by the number of cafes who have people operating the coffee machine and they don't drink coffee.

Dies, coffee is like wine. So many factors affect the flavour. It's actually a skill to make a good one.

  12. Has anyone noticed the latest trend of people, business types, walking around cities with big plastic cups of coffee? For example, her with the ginger hair who was getting done for the phone hacking newspaper thing: everytime she turned up to court she had a big coffee in her hand!

    It is a new fad.

You don't live in Melbourne, obviously! EVERYONE in the morning has a coffee in their hand and its been that way for decades! Whether its on the street, in the train, on the tram or even in your car (I drive in peak hour traffic every weekday and every time I have to stop at traffic lights on my hour long journey to work I see people in cars sipping on coffee in take-away cups with lids on them.

    I'm one of them.

If you're drinking a large coffee, you're doing it wrong.

Some people actually enjoy the flavour and like that to continue on longer. A large coffee usually has a double shot too. Heavy coffee drinkers often find a single espresso shot not enough to wake them them up and get them going. I always view large coffee drinkers as 'heavy duty caffeine consumers'.

  13. Now this is a fucking cool pair of boots

    wolverine-1000-mile-boots-hypebeast-2.jp

Beautiful, beautiful craftsmanship. The sole is where you really see the work (look at that stitching, and the stacked leather) and the shaping of the toe is divine. It's probably the first thing I look at on a pair of shoes/boots, the shape of the toe. If that's been fucked up I don't even bother with the rest of it. The next thing I do is smell the leather.
Do me a favour they look like Farmer Gileses walking boots
Uuugh, and I thought you had style! :max:
They're well put together and everything but in terms of like...a style of boot they're a bit naff. I never reckoned men in boots in like, urban or like...yknow, towns and citys and that, its just silly, put some proper fuckin shoes on, you ain't trekkin hills over here. Apparently its 'manly', do me a favour.

Another thing about shoes that annoys me is how the Miley Cyrus generation have appropriated brothel creepers.

Farmer Giles has better taste than you. :P

And where do you get off saying that city folk can't wear country attire, or mileys generation aren't allowed to wear brothel creepers? My favourite pair of boots are my Spanish equestrian riding boots, yet I don't own a horse. That's what's fantastic about fashion and the times we live in. We are free to wear what we like. In the 19th century no such thing was possible and go back to medieval times and no one except royalty was allowed certain colours! Fuck that!

Never thought I'd say this Len but you're being a SNOB! A fashion snob! You usually have more liberality in your thinking than this. :max:

And those Farmer Giles boots are fucking beautifully made boots!

I didnt say you cant wear em i just said they look fuckin stupid...and clearly based on their popularity im in the minority there. Some people are just fundamentally uncool and have the ability to poison the coolness of things, Miley Cyrus is one of em

Pardon me. I thought that by being annoyed at certain people wearing a certain type of shoe you were implying a preference for them not to wear those shoes. My mistake. :D

For me personally I don't like Miley and I don't like those shoes either but I don't mind that she wears them. To me that's the cornerstone of vintage fashion, a new generation coming along and wearing something in their way. It doesn't matter if it looks stupid or not (especially to an older generation who will always think it looks stupid), as long as it doesn't look the SAME as the previous generation wore it. Otherwise there's no progression. I love mixing old and new. That works for me and feels fresh. It works in clothing as well as it works with architecture. I love seeing a new, modern building next to an old building. I love that contrast, that juxtaposition. Each one compliments the other. Monotony is death to me.

Not saying that Miley is the height of originality in interpretation, far from it! But unfortunately we have to have mediocrity along with excellence. Anything else would just be monotonous.

One of my favorite parts of those boots is the tongue. It's this lovely thin leather strip that takes on the shape of your foot and the laces and the eyelets and the hooks, and every time you lace them up it gives off a deep, rich leather smell.

Mmmmm.......looooove that! I love it when a pair of boots moulds to the shape of your foot so that every time you slide your foot in it feels really comfortable and nestled. You know you can wear them for hours and hours without your feet getting sore and it's particularly noticeable when you change from a pair of ill fitting shoes into the good ones. That's what you pay the extra for. Cheap shoes/boots never do that properly. People think they're buying inferior quality from a visual perspective but to me it's more about every step being comfortable.

For women's shoes I really love Salvatore Ferragamo. I have a few pairs now and one of them is 8 years old and still looks brand new despite the fact that I had to have the sole replaced about 3 years ago, I wore them so much. And they have moulded to my foot perfectly so that no other pair of shoes I've owned has ever felt as comfortable. Probably the best value shoes I've bought, at $650.

  18. McCoy these are nice too.

They're black cherry as well. The second pair above that I posted are actually a brown colour, not cherry, which I originally thought. They're really nice though, the leather quality looks really good and the less stitching is nice, kind of different to all the other boots out there.

And what is with the foot being leather and not the shaft on a lot of these boots? I know it reduces the cost but that stuff irritates the shit out of me. I just like quality and always end up paying more for something that's beautifully made and will last. Especially something classic which you'll wear or use for years.

  19. I need a new pair of brown boots, so I'm looking around. No lie, I'm honestly tempted to buy these:

    http://www.bootbarn.com/Laredo-Men's-Snake-Print-Western-Boots/2011112,default,pd.html?dwvar_2011112_color=Tan%2fBrown

JFC! These boots are soooo not cool, it's not funny. The snakeskin part looks so dated and the worst thing? It's fucking FAUX snakeskin! I can appreciate a pair of well crafted boots whether they're 'in' or not. The beauty lies in the workmanship and the highest quality materials and these look like rubbish to me. At least buy quality McCoy. Then it doesn't matter if they're not cool, at least they're beautifully made.

Do any of those stand out to you? I'm ideally looking for something under $200.

    I actually like these ones:

The black cherry colour is lovely and they're genuine leather. I like the texture, the stitching and the colour toning.

Edit: these are nice too. Great soles, good colour, and not overdone in the whole stitching bit. I definitely think you should look at that dark cherry colour. It will be different to the other pairs you already own.

There's some fuckin' crackers here :)

Yeah these jackets look fantastic. The quality of the leather looks amazing and the styles and cuts are really nice. I especially love this one, and the red detail on the inside of the zipper is great. 2lu4bd1.jpg

Unfortunately the women's jackets they have on offer aren't anywhere near as interesting. :max:

Bin the pockety things on the breast and I'd buy that jacket this instant.
So basically you just want a plain leather jacket? The pocket details on the chest are what make it. Personally I think plain jackets with no design details at all are ultra boring. The minimalist look isn't working for me at all nowadays.
