  1. I thought Axl said that the truth is out there and you can find it but people want there to be something more regarding the break up.

From everything Axl said it was a disagreement between him and slash over the direction of the music and band. (Not uncommon for the two to see things differently) then slash felt he could be successful without guns when he failed to gain power of the band. Slash leaves which upset Axl because regardless of the differences he knew slash's sound was important and hard to find a replacement. Axl begins building a new band with the gnr name and as rumors start going around that the band is about to appear and a new album is coming slash and duff sue Axl over the rights of the name. (Axl's rants at rio 2001 reflect this) apparently this is where many of the lies about Axl come out. He is framed as a dictator that forced the other members to give him the name. This pisses Axl off obviously. These guys leave the band and now want to sue him for the name. Neither slash or duff have admitted to lying so this could be one of the many lies axl talks about.

Anyways they lose the lawsuit or settle because Axl still owns the name. A few years later velvet revolver happens and slash goes on a media tear of axl which brought on more lies and which likely brought the most anger towards Slash.

  2. I like this forum and Gnr should embrace it. Most bands don't have a community that stays as active as this one. It's like having the New York jet fan base. When things are not looking good the fans will let you know, but the moment they do things right you have the full support of a huge fan base that has stuck around through many delays, very few new songs and simply times where nobody has any idea if it will be a few months till the next announcement or a few years.

As for management they have the band in place but its up to Axl to execute and decide If he's still feeling motivated to be a musical artist. but if not you have to wonder what your managing.

It might be frustrating to be told that your not doing a very good job managing but there's no reason to let a forum get you mad. This place will be in full support the moment that a future is outlined (seeing as that future includes new material) managing should just be about creating a positive perspective of your band through actions and plans. This forum is the best indicator of how things are going. There was a lot of energy around here when the leaks hit. So everyone here is just waiting. This place can easily be turned into a happy GNR forum.

  3. Well we agree on most things but I thought it was common knowledge that Axl is consistently good on the first few songs...especially welcome to the jungle. There's only a handful of bad WTTJ in the last 2 years.

I think paradise city and sweet child are big test for Axl. When I hear the whole song of each of these with rasp then there's something special happening. Until then it's fun to find moments of great vocal ability and I guess for others to find the poor moments. It's up to Axl to get consistent all we can do is criticize and hope for the best.

  4. I know most people are tired of waiting for his 2010 voice to come back and probably sick of watching YouTube videos where it's not there yet but it's not like anyone said these videos are perfect. They are just examples of small moments in concert this summer that Axl showed rasp or a more powerful voice on parts of songs he normally hasn't in the past 2 years. Nobody ever mentions how he sings the first 5 songs of every concert perfect for whatever reason.

There's just such little optimism here and maybe that's because of lack of music or having to watch the same YouTube videos over and over again, but it's exciting to hear Axl nail You're Crazy in the Brooklyn video. It's cool to hear paradise city have the rasp back in it. I wish his voice was more consistent but it's not. He's still doing great shows though, and I'm hoping these moments of rasp and power translate into something great for his voice down the line. I don't think it's fair to label his voice as dead though, clearly he's got more to give.

  5. I'm shocked that they are shocked the songs leaked. These were not just recently recorded mixes these were done 6-12 years ago! With the amount of people that played a hand in the making of Chinese democracy it's a miracle they didn't leak sooner. No telling how many gnr demos are floating around the music industry...or buried in a desk of blank cd's. They should feel lucky the flood gates haven't opened.

  6. If axl releases a hit song with himself on lead vocals to go along with it then it will be fine. If not then it will be like a couple guys said above..a nightmare in the media. The song has a 90's feel to it. Almost feels like its already been done before, but still has a good sound and could receive a lot of attention being released under the Guns n Roses name.

  7. Everything is going to run through Axl so I don't think team brazil wants to be actively trying to answer questions on the forum when they are unsure of when the next thing for gnr is.

Axl could announce a new tour tomorrow or be silent for 10 years. When he wants something done I think it puts a lot of stress on team brazil because its typically last minute.

This is what makes team Brazil's relationship with the forum difficult, most of the time they have no answers to give. With that said it would be nice to get an update every once in a while on the life of Axl. Even if its just about a vacation he took. I just think they look at gnr as a spontaneous project still and that attitude and lack of organization has led to problems when it comes to releases and tours.

  8. sorry for bumping this, but still to this day this interview is where we get 90% of our knowledge on new music from Axl.

-one thing that still holds true is Axl not wanting to promote himself before something is ready. (possibly why gnr isn't going to discuss a new record)

-I do find it sad how Axl's vision hasn't panned out exactly how he saw it.

    - I wonder if he feels the same about the record companies not wanting to deal with older bands.

    - The amount of work that he put on his shoulders for chinese makes me think that the task of taking on a new album with essentially a completely new band from 02 is daunting in his mind. (might be why he has seemingly lost a drive for putting out new material.)

-still shocking to hear him talk about 2 other albums, if the songs from these albums ever see the light of day then the evolution from what they were in 02 to the time they get released will be drastic. (assuming he has tinkered with the albums as new members of the band have come in)

-always interesting to hear him talk about Slash, especially in such a lighthearted way.

  9. It is weird that you have these random occurrences where the rasp shows up on a song you haven't heard it on in a while. I thought it happened more on this tour but it makes me wonder of Axl even knows when the rasp is coming. For him there might be a fine line between his rasp and the higher vocals we get a lot. If he can find command of his voice I think we could be in for some great performances again.

  10. This recent tour was filled with some good vocal moments from Axl. As the tour went on there was more rasp on Paradise City, a great outro to Rocket Queen, Estranged, and Don't Cry. An amazing performance of You're Crazy in Brooklyn and many more moments some what over looked. Now I know none of this is on par with the expected vocals we want from Axl mainly because they are only seen here and there, but this was a tour I would have liked to see continue so that Axl could have became more comfortable with rasp on the songs we have grown use to hearing in the higher vocal department as of late. Or maybe the Governor's Ball had him motivated to put a little bit more into his voice.

not perfect by any means but the rasp is there in paradise city

from 8:24 on in this estranged video is the one that got me to look around at some other performances from this tour. It's rare to see this much rasp at the end of estranged.

to me everything is great about this nightrain performance..thanks to whoever posted it.

the brooklyn bowl witnessed one of the best vocal performances from Axl! perfect

The governor's ball don't cry actually had rasp at the end, but not until 3:37 so not great

and rocket queen in kansas had a great finish after 5:41

While not complete performances they do showcase moments of classic Axl and leave hope that there is plenty left in the tank.

post some more videos from this tour, I know he wasn't singing every song with rasp so you don't have to point that out. but do these moments of rasp give you hope? or is this all lightning in a bottle.

  11. Civil war is a great lyrical song. Although Axl didn't entirely write it I'm sure he had a big role in the lyrics like most GNR songs. If you like lyrics with double meanings then chinese democracy is the album for you. I personally think GNR songs have a wide range of lyrical strength from simple to brilliant. Appetite and the illusions album contrast well in the lyrical department. With use your illusion being more complex.

  12. I know this has probably been brought up before, but I couldn't get the search function to look for anything. I really like There Was A Time, but haven't really heard a live version of it that stuck out to me as great in the last 4 years. 2006 had some great moments for the song though. I stumbled across this video from the 2009 Taipei show, and this is the first version where I really felt like this is how Axl from the 90's would have sang this song. After about the :40 mark his voice just goes to another level. The scream and energy from the crowd at 3:55 is incredible! Anyways I guess I just wanted more people to see this video, but if you know of some better T.W.A.T videos then please post them. I know there have been some better moments for Axl, but this performance really stuck out to me.

  13. For the media they know he's 51 and know how demanding vocals are on any Guns N Roses song so it's a miracle he's still performing, and nailing many of the hits. The media won't have the same expectations of Axl as we do because we have followed every year of his performing life and know how shortly removed we are from 2010. As long as he's on time, not kicking any fans out and putting on shows then the media sees that as a success. There are very few true American rock stars. Axl Rose is a rarity and someone who comes around once in a generation..if that. His legend is built on the good and the bad and that's why the media will always be fascinated with him. Axl has been to hell and back in his life so it is a miracle he's still putting on shows and we should be thankful for that. I hope he continues to kick ass for another decade, and hopefully be remembered for what makes him one of the greatest rock stars of all time.

  14. He doesn't exactly sound the most powerful, but its about 50/60 percent head and chest voice (rasp) while the whole last 2 years it was 20 percent head/chest voice. I hope to god that he got self conscious after reading some youtube comments after Beta turned off the child locks on his PC.

I don't think it's as consistent as that. He's going from 100% rasp on WTTJ to no rasp on rocket queen and sweet child. Then on Paradise City he mixes it up, but I'd really love to hear sweet child with rasp again. That's just my personal preference though. I know songs like nighttrain and the seeker were amazing last night because he had so much energy and it was portrayed in his voice. It gave the audience a hit of energy to hear these songs sung in a classic Axl voice. But percentage wise of rasp It just varies song to song.

  15. Does no one have HD camera's in lubbock?

Haha they were doing some tough searches on everyone at the concert. It would have been hard to get a decent camera in there.

Rocket Queen was sang in his higher voice. The ending was good I believe though. Used to Love Her started out perfect then it was high the second half. You could be mine was the opposite of UTLH. Sweet Child was sang high. On KOHD when hes doing the four KOHD's with the crowd he sings all 4 different. The first one is casual, second one is deep rasp (1992 rasp), third is higher, and fourth is all out scream in perfect tune. Like I said before there were some really great moments tonight, I loved the show his voice sounded amazing, but I know there will be videos that will disappoint those looking for rasp.

Cool thanks very much. I figured as much. But, given how raspy and energetic Jungle and others have been lately, I tend to think we're moving in a positive direction.

Definitely! I think Axl understands where he wants rasp and probably feels more comfortable using it in some situations than others. But like I said on KOHD he shows off all of his voices on the last four crowd participation ones. It's really cool to hear.
