Once again the media has imposed their 'me first' attitude and have turned a trajedy into a debacle. All of the different media outlets heave become totally inept and unprofessional, screw them.
It's looking like the plane was potentially stolen, if that's the case, that's a pretty bold move. Hopefully it and those responsible are found before they can do more harm to any innocent people.

Marc, can you tell us what it was like when AnR guys started showing up to court the band? Were they excited?? Could you see them wanting to put on an even better show knowing those guys were watching??
How about when Paul Stanley showed up. I've read that they weren't very impressed except Steven. Thank God he didn't get his hands on their sound and make it more poppy sounding!!
According to Duff and Slash books they never really wanted Paul Stanley. As you said only Steven care about him because he was a big Kiss fan. In fact they made Paul´s life miserable to drive him away. To Paul´s credit he recognized the band was good and had potencial. And having Paul Stanley around them created buzz. That was a good thing.
True.
I could be wrong but wasn't it Paul Stanley who suggested they drop the part of Jungle '' and when youre high you never ever wanna come down'', to one time, instead of two, like they were doing in some of the older club shows.
Its great having some of Marcs videos to see how the band evolved. I wish there was some backstage stuff to. That would be interesting to sees how they interacted before and after a show back than.
The band didn't really change what they were doing as far as the gigs went. What they were doing was already working and they knew it. The only difference is they knew that they were going to sign with one of them and get a chance to get their music out there. They did milk it a bit as with some free dinners.
When they played in the clubs, do you think they were confident that their music was better than the other bands? Its hard to tell on video, but there must be a cool feeling knowing everybody is coming to see your band perform. And that the other bands are going to be left to figure something else out. Must have been a hell of a couple months seeing them rise up from the others.

No not at all, I already knew about Nov Rain back in the mid 80's and don't Cry from the demo had a lot to do with the band getting signed and Tom Z didn't even know about it when he saw the band play live. I think it was the fact that they could do both funky/catchy and ballads is what made the difference of maybe signing them to for sure signing them.Marc~ Were you surprised that the band was creating these long epic songs as opposed to sticking with the harder/punkier sounding songs that made then famous?? Sans Sweet Child O' Mine and Patience.I think all of their long songs are awesome, but would have liked for them to stick with the formula that got them there for one more album. Then unleash the November Rains, Estranged etc...but what the hell do I know?? Lol...
Yes but Slash was really good at coming up with power full things because Axl's voice brought that out of him. They really were a great team together. Axl also knew what to do with the riffs that Slash came up with too.Slash did something unique with Estranged. The part that always gets me is that he didn't even like that type of songs and playing with a piano in the background and came up with something that brilliant. Fucking amazing.
Thanks for the insight Marc.
I always thought it was awesome how they could go from playing a song like Jungle, and then go into a ballad like Don't Cry. It s a good way of playing to the crowd, imo.

Good point Rovim, alot of his (Slash) most memorable stuff is on the songs that one wouldn't expect.

One of their best songs for sure. I like how the song rises and falls throughout. Great lyrics, Axl sounds great and Slash wrote a cool masterpiece.
All of the elements of the band are clicking, even Matts bombastic and over the top drum tone fits perfectly.

That was a good read thanks for posting downzy.

i think right now the world and russia are playing a big game of chicken. if putin and russia decide to attack the mainland of the ukraine i think downzy is right and we will see a much different response to the situation.Interesting how Putin is taking the ask questions later approach. I wonder why he's not giving any chance of diplomacy right now before the situation escalates?
As in what? A military response?? That's a hell of a game of chicken. I think Obama has run out of chances to blink, he needs to channel his inner Kennedy and use brains over braun.

I really wish I heard her father slamming her head off the wall.

Be careful netcat, and thanks for telling it like it is.

As much as I don't care for Obama and many of his policies, Putin has him by the balls right now. There is no way he can send US troops there without starting WW3.
I hope this comes to a peaceful resolution asap for all involved. This is some serious shit.

A big shame in US history is the assasination of MLK. He and JFK hit it off and were about to do some amazing things. Of course that all ended with both of their assassinations followed by RFK's not long after MLK. Within the decade the 60's had lost 4 of our most influential leaders.
The video below is badass.

Great speech.

Hey Marc, I was wondering what you thought the first time you played Appetite and you heard the opening riff to Jungle and Axls howling, then of course the song kicks in and its total mayhem.
I think its the best opening song on record and in concert.
But what were your thoughts when you first heard those opening 20~30 seconds?? Were you thinking Holy Shit, like the rest of us?? Lol

I think Axl said in the chats that he is not bi~ polar, and that the interviewer (from RS) took what he was saying as him saying or suggesting he is. The media just ran with it as his excuse for being the bad boy.
I think he's got something going on. He seems to be super sensitive and gets set off at things that we might consider trivial.
The story from Slash's book comes to mind about him jumping out of the car at 40mph because Slash wanted him to appologise to his grandmother for telling her to fuck off. The Chicago incident as well, when he went into a rage at those two girls. Fucked up.
Its all part of why I like the guy and his music. The anger and rage coupled with his nice side makes him a very charasmatic person. I hope he figures it out or maybe he has.

I think it was done to make potential fans think they put on a loud raucous live show. Which they did anyways but for potential buyers it was a good idea to suck people in.

Last two weeks or so I've been seeing news articles about a big batch of heroin that has been being sold from Ohio to New York. There's over a dozen overdose/deaths related to this dope. I wonder if he got some of that shit.

Duffs book was very good. I liked it better then Slash's. It was cool that Duff thanked each of his former bandmates individually at the end.

Hi Marc, was there anybody else, say from the record company, that tried to help besides Alan? Being that they were basically Geffens biggest/hottest act, do you know of anyone who could have helped save the situation??
-
Totally hated all the extra musicians.
It was bad enough they lost Steven and then Izzy. To me, when they came back for the Illusion tour, it was like a totally different band. The stage was cool but Axl running around was wierd, plus all the jumping off stuff seemed out of character for him, to me anyways.
Off topic: I'll never like ' Gimme Some Reggae'.
They went to big way to soon. Had they been able to wait until say now, all off that extra stuff would be cool and look/feel normal.

I went there once to the Danbury mall. It was like the mall by me.

Great choice Marc. I'll never forget my first time hearing Slash play Voodoo Child or Hey Joe, he does a very admirable job.
