Geeks of Doom: The band sometimes gets bad press, mostly because of the time-keeping issues and basically because some people cant handle the fact its not the same guys as in 1986. And yet Guns N Roses is arguably as popular as it has ever been and playing in parts of the world GNR has never been before. Do you feel like its a no-win situation or do you think youre helping to take the band forward?

Bumblefoot: My focus is on making music and doing positive things with my life.

Geeks of Doom: Fair enough. You recently played a couple of dates in Canada to round off some pretty hectic touring is GNR having a rest now?

Bumblefoot: GNR seems to be having a rest, but anything could change at any time. Meanwhile, Im starting to ease back into doing my own solo shows again. During the break Ive got Bumblefoot shows scheduled in August for Italy, Greece, Albania, and Tunisia. Hoping to do more in the next few months.

Geeks of Doom: You said recently you would prefer GnR to release songs one at a time rather than do a whole album. Has there been any movement on this?

Bumblefoot: I dont think thats gonna be the plan for GNR.

Geeks of Doom: Ok. What about Bumblefoot singles? Or even an album?

Bumblefoot: Eventually. Ive been wanting to. Id need to tour less. Need to somehow adjust the balance so I can make both happen!

  2. It sounds to me, in a weird way, a lot organically closer to older GN'R, whereas some of Chinese sounded a bit like they were consciously trying to mix in old GN'R? I love ChiDem so that's not me slagging off the record, but this track could comfortably fit in alongside an Illusion track... it's like the Replacements covering 'Dead Flowers' with Axl on backup vocals. It's got that straight-up, straightforward rock n' roll edge that some people felt ChiDem was lacking. I dig it.

    /thread

  3. I think it is just missing some substance. For instance, look at Daft Punk's "Around the World". They literally just say Around the World 144 times, and those are the complete lyrics.

Sorry, but you just compared a legendary dance track to a very average remix. This is a bad comparison.

It's not the repetitive vocals for me, it's the mostly recycled ideas that turn me off it. Most dance tracks have very repetitive vocals. It's just not a very imaginative remix, it doesn't move me, add anything to the original song or do enough to stand out as a song in it's own right.

It's a fairly boring arrangement. I love remixes and electronic music, but Brain's work is just not that great in this department. There are a few nice ideas in there, but that's about it. Just my opinion though, hey.

Yeah you're right. I don't even like BITW. I just thought i should point out that constant repetition of one phrase can be successful in a song :tongue2:

And I know BITW is just a remix, but I just thought I should post this.

Can Blood in the Water's Repetition Be Looked Past?

    Typo

  5. 2008, Best Buy, Dr Pepper all that. But as it's a new album thread.

"Atlas Shrugged, I was going to tell a little story about that song. Right now on my laptop, I actually have the old guitar solo that I played for that song, when, two days before the album was going to be mastered, I was like, let's see if we can squeeze it on to the album. I busted out some guitar tracks for it, I have my own studio...

But, because the CD could only be 74 minutes max, and it would've taken it past the limit of what a CD can store, we couldn't put Atlas Shrugged on Chinese Democracy. It wasn't worth making a two-CD album with just one song on the other CD, so hopefully, on ChiDem 2, it'll have Atlas Shrugged on there. Interesting song." (Bumblefoot, Eat More Heat, 03/02/13)

Ron mentions CD II and they have Atlas Shrugged.

Ultimately it comes down to two options

    1. You like CD, and then it seems like every year they did something that ends up on the record making it better for the most part. from 98 right up to 2007 they did stuff that had to be done to get the record.

    2. Or you don't like it and it just seems like a lot of hassle for nothing. You could release it in 99 and got it over with.

2002 seems like a pivotal year. Up to that point it's a normal record, after that it got a bit hard to explain. In someways the RTB re-record made it such a mesh of instrumentation that to mix it took 3 years.

Overall I have learned that it takes about 3-4 years to make a record. A year to set it up, a year to do it, a year to finish and mix it. So if you do that 3 times you have 10 years gone.

    Hmm, interesting! Cool info.
