  1. There's differences as well.

Freddie released music throughout his career.

    Freddie's voice was consistently good.

Freddie's band stayed together until his death.

    The list goes on....

Loads, but i meant more what things Axl based his looks, career etc on that was inspired by Freddie

  2. It is no secret that Freddie Mercury is one of Axl's big idols. I guess it is natural then that Axl found inspiration for his own career through Freddie.

From what i have found these are the similarities im aware of:

    • They both changed their names. Freddie Mercury was Farrokh Bulsara before, while Axl used to be "Bill" Bailey
    • Just like Axl, Mercury seldom gave interviews
    • They both play piano
    • Wide range of genres in their songwriting, and always looking for progression in their work.

"I hate doing the same thing again and again and again. I like to see what's happening now in music, film and theatre and incorporate all of those things."

    Freddie Mercury, 1986

    • Both big fans of Led Zeppelin
    • Rudimentary skills on guitar
    • Was Freddie the inspiration for this pic?

(Allthough it seems to be more inspired by Elton John)

  3. Yes I believe if we are lucky Axl could keep on going untill he is 70 and maybe a few bonus years after that? Wonder how many albums and line up changes we will get in that period? Another 2-3 albums would be great and i would be content with that. It would leave us with a lot of music to listen to. I guess the songs could change a bit in style, actually im pretty sure they will. More going down, seeker style of songs. Not so hard on voice and energy, maybe he will be more of an Elton John style of musician in his latter days?

Im also wondering if he will bring his cane on stage soon?

  4. 28 years ago today was the first LA Guns show with Axl in the band at the Troubadour October 5, 1984 Axl asked me to shoot this show and I had to sneak away from Slash to do it because Slash would have been pissed that I was helping Axl and Tracii. Hollywood Rose had just broke up and Tracii was a rival of Slash when they were in High School

    attachicon.gif84 la guns .jpg

what songs did Axl sing in LA guns?

    Bloodshot Eyes

    Shadow of your love

    Nice Boys

    If you don't love me

    Stick To Your Guns

    Anything Goes

    Heartbreak Hotel

I just made a thread about many of these songs where you can see snippets of them from october 84

  5. This is the only footage from this now famous show. Shot October 13, 1989 at the Parkview Plaza Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. A few nights later The band opened for the Rolling Stones at The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Another Biff Tv and The Ponce exclusive.

Damn, only 9 minutes and half - where is the rest? They were on fire!

Maybe this drmalibu@hotmail.com shown in the intro has more? Anyway, just found another vid from him (Biff Malibu) featuring an interview with Axl Rose which Ive never seen before. Starts at around 04:42

  6. best IRS i ever heard.

One of my favourite performances of IRS (actually, one of my favourite gigs overall, period!) was Universal Ampitheatre 2006. I used to listen to that bootleg over and over. Axl sounds so great on it, the band is on fire!

He's got banter going on with the crowd, he looks physically great, he SOUNDS great... amazing show.

Skip to Down on the Farm around 1 hour 7 minutes into the show, look at him hopping around stage. I miss that!

Anyone remember how crazy the forum went when they played Down on the Farm the first time? I was surprised because that was never exactly one of their biggest songs, but the enthusiasm was through the roof. People were geekin' out!

BTW, November Rain is about 1 hr 25 minutes into that video. Listen to his voice, it's one of the best NuGNR performances of the song. He's got the rasp during the verses.

Man, I love the positive vibe in this thread too, but it just makes me sad for all the potential this new band has had at times and never managed to fully capitalize on. :(

I guess he was hopping around a bit too much in 2006

  7. Is Going Down a new song or has it been around for long?

If it is a new song how does it tie in with Bumblefoot saying no new recordings have been made? its all old CD-era stuff?

Sebastien Bach who is a close friend of Axl’s said that Chinese Democracy was supposed to be the first in a trilogy and that two more albums were supposed to come out after it and that the second one in the trilogy was supposed to come out in 2012. Do you have any details about this and can we expect some Ron Thal signed compositions?

At this point? (laughs) Erm… You know I really can’t say because there’s nothing to tell. It’s frustrating for me because there is nothing to tell about the future of G’N’R because it changes minute to minute. As far as a trilogy is concerned, I don’t know. There is enough music for another two albums, but these are all 10 year old recordings from the Chinese Democracy sessions. Those songs are not new songs and this current band, this relevant band that contains me and DJ and Richard and Frank on drums, we have yet to get in a studio together and sit down on the floor with guitars and just start writing. We have not done that. The only music that is going to be coming out at this point that I see from G’N’R is going to be from 10 years ago with players that have been gone for 5 years and maybe alternative mixes of songs. So it’s like a big chapter in Axl’s musical life that has yet to be closed. I have no idea. I mean shit! We are supposed to tour the US in February and it’s the end of January and no one has even like…. yeah. You can’t make plans. You cannot make any plans when dealing with Guns N’ Roses. Things are just going to happen and they are not going to happen when you think that they are going to happen. That’s just how it is and it can’t be controlled, it can’t be changed. This is just how it is in G’N’R world. And you just roll with it and say “alright”. We were going to tour and then now we are not. It will happen when it is going to happen, and it does. It’s not the kind of thing where… Like if you ask me about my stuff, I can tell you all kinds of plans for the future and what’s going to happen. If you ask about G’N’R, it’s all a big question mark and it really is. It’s not like anything is being hidden, it’s just that nothing can be predicted (big laugh). It’s a weird fucking thing man! (big laugh again)

  8. I'm trying to download this bootleg on the tracker, with little success.

It's great to hear Axl like that, I hope he brings it back in '14.

Oh yeah! The voice will be back, he will sport a new look and there will be a new album! Well, one can hope anyway

  9. That bootleg is so cool.

I recommend you listen to the other songs as well, Axl was really on good form this evening. It was actually, the longest ever concert they have played (unless they topped it off later, Im not sure). Prostitute was pretty cool too

  10. Everytime GNR plays in Japan you get these really cool in-ear monitor recordings from Axl. This way Axl's voice dominates the sound and as an added bonus you get to hear all the little jokes from Axl.

The first example is a really amazing recording of IRS from Tokyo 2009. It starts out fairly regular sounding, but after a short while I would say its the best live version I've heard of that song (actually its one his best vocal performances overall too)

Next is Scraped, more jokes at the beginning as well as a very good vocal performance
