Pretty much the other way around with Pittman.  The comments were basically his real-time reactions to being eliminated from the tour.

    Interesting.

Kind of bizarre that he got the boot after being in the band for 20 years.    Wonder what happened.   Thanks for the info.

Getting Izzy back would be the most rational thing.

1- he's the founding member who created the GNR sound most.

2- he's the common ground for all fans, every gunner loves him, that'll attract all nay sayers always looking for an excuse.

3- his stage presence with axl n slash is phenomenal. only keef/mick may top axl/izzy, nothing can top izzy/slash.

4- if we want an album there must be izzy. you no the reasons...

5- i believe steven will be back, and getting izzy back will complete the reunion, people will stop the speculations and focus into the band and we'll all live happily ever after :D

I don't see either Izzy or Steven coming back full time.

I do think its possible there was a guest role for Steven to come on and play 1 or 2 songs like Izzy used to do.    Maybe that will still happen.   But Frank was always meant to be the band's drummer for this tour.    He's been rehearsing with the band since January.

I had Toronto, Chicago, New Orleans, Mexico City and Las Vegas, but missed on Dallas and Boston I think.  The initial plans I saw were for more dates to occur right after coachella. All I knew about the keyboard situation was that Pittman was no longer a part of the tour but didn't know they had actually replaced him.  I still think we will see Izzy and believe the Twitter communication was a money play that hasn't seemed to work out yet.  I have no way of knowing for sure, but it seems plausible that Izzy could end up joining the band for one-off guest performances.

Each time I spoke with my source in the past month, she gave me very little info so I limited my questions to tour date discussions.

Not sure about the meet up.  Where is it?  I last saw you guys talking about ordering beer and pizzas to someone's hotel room. I'm not up for that but would be interested in meeting up at a bar somewhere.

Did Pitman's firing have anything to do with his comments on social media these last few months?

Izzy guest performances sound awesome!    hope it happens.

Yeah the excitement  for the whole thing went from an 11 to a 2 overnight...This is nothing other than Slash joing NuGnR... I was so stoked all day Friday. Like I haven't been that excited for anything in a long time.. It ended up just being pretty close to the NuGnR that I could never get into.. Now I could give a rats ass about Vegas and I wish I didnt shell out all this money to go.. I was gonna suck it up and deal with Fortus and Ferrer. But adding the lame chick with ridiculous synths just fucking ruins it.. Nevermind wasting setlist spots with shit CD songs. Better is just god awful..

Its actually less members on stage than the UYI tour, and 4 out of 6 of the core band.

Give the CD stuff a chance.. Slash could potentially change them up enough that you might find them likable.

  5. When people look back, 2016 will likely be the year GnR reunited because to the general public its all about Axl + Slash.

In a few years, when everyone has seen them and they can't get away with selling out stadiums for outrageous prices, I could see an AFD reunion as a way to boost sales.    But Izzy is always a wildcard and its not known if Steven has it in him for a tour at that scale.

Going forward, its probably Axl, Slash, Duff, Richard, Frank, Dizzy.

GNR is not an "average" band - never has been and never will be.

They've never done things "like every other band" - which is part of what makes them great.  And both Matt and Stevie have indicated they have no problem sharing a stage with each other. So, I don't see this is an issue at all. As long as the two are willing to split the paycheck, I don't see any hurdles to making this happen.

Of course they aren't an average band.  Furthest thing from that.   But I don't see a multi-drummer lineup as a realistic long-term setup.     My opinion.

Some of you might disagree with me here but I think they should drop some of the apetite songs and play more Use Your Illusions songs especially the ones that have never been played live like don't damn me, garden, locomotive, breakdown...and play others like coma, yesterdays, dead horse, right  next door to hell, shotgun blues etc...I'm sure tons of people would love to hear those and it would be an upgrade nonetheless.

We hardcores like that idea because the AFD songs have been taking up most of the setlist since 2001.

But the causal fan is going to see Paradise City and SCOM.

Also, AFD is their biggest album for a reason.   It has their best songs.

But I'm with you, I'd love to see some of the deeper UYI cuts, and also some CD songs with Slash's spin on them.

jesus fucking christ dawg how the fuck would anyone know how the world works? that's an ever changing entity we're talking about

how do you define "realistic"? what you're used to see? this is gnr, any fucking thing can happen. even now it is still pretty un fucking believable that axl shared the stage with slash a couple nights ago

Its not realistic for a band to tour with multiple drummers alternating between songs.    Pointing to a one-off special occasion like the HOF is just that, a special occasion and that happens often at the HOF with band's alumni.

Bringing this guy to play one set of songs, and that guy to play another set of songs is not how things in work for bands on tour.    For lots of reasons.

The most I could see is bringing someone to come play a song or two, like Izzy used to do.    Not as part of the band, but as a special guest.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion.    My opinion is that Frank has done a great job in the band for the last 10 years and I like him there over bringing in someone else.    That's not to take away from guys in the past, they did some great shit.

  9. Axl's voice - I think it sounds better in these clips than it did even in 2002.  From the clips we heard moments of very good rasp like the old days and moments with his clean, higher pitch (what some call his Mickey voice).    All things considered, he looks and sounds great for an Axl Rose in his mid 50s.   Can't expect him to sound like his 25 year old self all the time.

well they wouldn't have to pick between matt or steven if they didn't want to, like many people agreed b4, matt should play illusion and steven plays afd, cuz thats how they were recorded

That's not realistic, and its a pipe dream.   Bands don't operate that way and that's not how the world works.

You have a band, you have one drummer.

Just because that happened at a one off appearance at the HOF, doesn't it would or should happen on an entire tour.     Lots of former bands regroup for special performances like that at the HOF, but they don't tour that way.   That was like Metallica playing with Jason and Robert on stage for their induction, but they didn't tour with two bassists.   That would be ridiculous.   And more ways the money has to be split.

you must be new on this forum? or gnr fans for that matter

but i agree with you tho, im just fucking glad theyre playing together again, but oc we all wish matt and steven could be there

I'm not complaining if Matt or Steven were there, that would be fine.

    But they aren't needed.

If they were, these shows would not be selling out at these outrageous prices.

I say that with much respect to everyone who has played in this band for their role in GnR history.

I just think Frank does just as good of a job, if not better.    They are all fine drummers.   However, I do question if Steven would have it in him to handle a tour at this level.

Of course, others will have different opinions, and that is fine.   But acting like he is some terrible drummer who can't play the material correctly is flat out ridiculous.   Just admit its all about the nostalgia of wanting Steven or Matt.

One thing Frank does, is provide a neutral option to avoid having to pick between Matt or Steven.    Plus he was already in the band for 10 years (longer than Matt or Steven).

  12. The way the instagram pictures kept building up to the warm up gig was awesome.

People want to complain about the order things were announced but surely there is reasoning behind it.   Perhaps it was a condition of headlining coachella that it be announced first.     Or getting to be one of the first acts to open the new t-mobile arena in LV.

The warm up show at the Troubadour was a great way to get the band ready for the next set of gigs, which are going to be huge.     Can't wait.

  13. The Frank hate is completely baseless.

Its a nostalgic thing, wanting to see Steven or Matt back there.     That's all it is.

Truth is, if you heard the audio of the show without any picture, you would probably have no idea who was on the drums.

They are all fine drummers with a place in GnR history.   Right now, Frank is in that role and he's done a more than respectable job on all the material since he came into the band in 2006.

that is a good way to look at it, it makes you wonder if this "reunion" ever would have happened if DJ Ashba, Bumblefoot, and Stinson did not quit, Axl was basically wondering who was going to fill in the open slots in his band and he figured he would give those old guys he used to work with a chance.

    True..

But on the other hand.. once Axl and Slash patched things up.. it was only a matter of time.   Too much money to be made.

I'm not insisting that its all about the money.   They could have other motivations as they are all well off.     But there is no doubt from a business standpoint that both Axl and Slash are going to do better financially together than they would apart.
