  1. my personal opinion is the sydney show especially is currently in doubt, although aus only has a small number of cases, sydney is currently in lockdown, and there is no way a gig of this magnitude will go ahead unless they get back to zero cases. I have tickets to this gig and i think this one is seriously in doubt.

Couple things I’m thinking of: Doing a call-in episode. Could be fun or a disaster, like GNR. Also inviting Rick Dunsford back on to talk with about what it feels like to be “banned” from a band you love.

Tbh I made a choice not to have Rick on since his ban. I’m still friendly with him, but I was hoping that was one  of the choices I could make to get in the good graces of Fernando. It’s why I didn’t ask Fortus any GNR questions, why I seemed so nervous talking to DIzzy and Frank. Trying to play ball, hopefully prove myself. That’s what it’s all about, right? Proving yourself and hopefully earning an opportunity?  When I would hear their complaints, I did what I could to adhere to what they wanted. It’s why I didn’t say anything until now.

Despite his ban, Rick has had plenty of positive experiences with Fernando.  I want to continue the narrative of a miscommunication rather than this turn into a bashing.  I don’t want them harassed or bad things said about Team Brazil.  Just to continue the conversation as to why. Why is it like this?

It’s a fine line… just don’t become the next Jarmo and you should be right mate 😉

  3. I’ve just read 5 pages of this and I get most of the opinions on here. We need new music, it’s gone stale, same set list, no news, no interviews, other bands do more or whatever. All valid points.

I spent $245AU on two diamond seating tickets ($490AU) plus a hotel room for night 1 in Sydney (over $700.00 all up) for me and the mrs.

I think like everyone else who resides on this forum, that hasn’t completely given up would say that it’s probably the last hurrah as fans. Over time ive re-adjusted my thinking and expectations of each show.
I’m at a point where ive come to terms that what I purchased was not 1992 Freddie Mercury tribute Axl, it’s 2021, late 50’s Axl. I don’t hold a single hope for even 1 new song on the tour. I simply hope that the band gets on stage and delivers what a good blend of songs at a level that gives me value for money. I completely get that this is at odds with what most people are saying on here, but I purchased my tickets on the evidence of what’s gone on before and If I sit and listen to the songs and they are delivered at an acceptable level then I got what I paid for!!!
Am I part of the problem??? I definitely think so now.
I used to hang on this forum every day, wait for news, argue all the points of management, Axl v slash, duff selling out, team Brazil, you name it…

but as another user stated, the pandemic sucked a bit of giving a shit out of me, and also in the time I e waited my own life has changed, I’ve got two new kids under 6 years old, bills, running around, and like other people I came to realise that the 80s band is long gone, the 90s band is just gone, the 00’s and beyond were largely wasted missed opportunities, and we got a reunion that was also missed opportunity due to bad decision making by management and axl and blah blah blah and the interest  for me on a caring level is gone and what’s left is simple this,

I paid my money to go see them one last time, enjoy my night and close it out on a bit of fun.

it simply “ is what it is”  at this point.

I still look at they clips from their heyday, and that’s why my mind lives, fuck they were good. Like no other band I’ve seen.
for me personally the biggest gift they could give me, is not new music, release the halcyon days footage. I could drink to that stuff every Saturday night!

  4. We’ve always had limited information from axl over the last 2 decades.

it’s hard to shake the feeling that duff and slash have either been advised to not say anything in relation to GNR or they’ve just agreed to it. Either way, they are now complicit in keeping the fans at arm lengths and essentially sticking their finger up at us.

ive said it a million times, I’ll say it again, it’s a rock band. Not a covert military operation. FFS

    better

    Estranged

    live and let die

    November rain

    KOHD

    Nightrain

    patience

    the seeker

    paradise city

it was a 3 hour show and I think from a hardcore fan perspective it had a lot in it for everyone.
personally I think 3 hrs is a long time in anyone’s book but we were pretty spoilt that night for what was played and the amount that was played.
I have tickets to the next Sydney show in November which I’m really looking forward too.
being a generally happy go lucky bloke when I go to these gigs I know what I’m getting by way of general set list for the main part.

if I could trade out a few of these songs, I’d give better, the slash solo, the seeker, wish you were here and any other CD songs out and trade them all in for a smaller set list that included down on the farm 😜

gotta be the most under rated song on any album 😎😜

I'd like an Axl autobiography too but he missed the boat on that one by not releasing it in a similar timeframe to Slash and Duff. Releasing it at any point since the reunion will just stoke up old resentments unless he's very censorious with himself and that's hardly Axl's style!

Maybe if this current incarnation ends and they go their separate ways again he will as a retirement project but he's not much for talking publicly these days so I just feel he won't bother and money isn't likely a motivating factor any longer.

    I think you’re 100% right mate

Illusions stuff it is then 😜

  7. some great insight into how much this forum has going for it outside of just what is happening (or not happening) with the band.
I bought tickets to the November Sydney show (spent a small fortune) as I truly think without a full AFD reunion or new music, that it could possibly be the last time they come to Oz. And it just got me thinking that without any news on a new album and my constant checking in here to see if I’ve missed anything what it would be like for the forum and I think I got it answer!
for me personally, the new music issue becomes less relevant every day.

im more stuck in the illusions line up era anyway and I can honestly say that if I had a choice between the vault being opened from their halcyon days and a record with this line up, I’d go for option A. One thing I really would like to see just as much as that is axl to tell his story. An autobiography is probably the holy grail for me, just so for the record we had axls side of the story on the record. I doubt we will ever get it but hey, these hopes are what drive my check ins here every week (along with reading posts from the usual posters who I have never met but I consider I know them in a strange kinda way anyway) 🤣

one thing I’ve always enjoyed about this forum is it’s not run to a narrative like other forums, freedom of speech on a topic can be debated but there’s no one narrative in play all the time from the mods. It’s what will keep me coming back if it’s over!!!
    cheers guys & girls 👌

Yes, a lot of people on here already treat it that way.

True I guess. But I remember previous dark periods and then getting news on the reunion and thinking if you hang in long enough something always eventually happens 🤣so you just hang in there... it’s a great forum for meeting people and I guess I’d probably still turn up! 😎

  9. If There was an official announcement from Axl or the band that there will never be another album, would you still visit this forum frequently?
I find myself coming to this site probably weekly on the of chance there may be some sort of news or leak or interview I may have missed and I must admit being a member for so long I do enjoy talking to other members of the forum.
But Im just curious, as to what people visit this forum primarily for? Is it the friendships? The off chance something might drop? Both?

  10. I think the big takeaway from this thread is this, how anyone could take any of these people at their word is impossible. Good luck trying to figure out the truth amongst a mentally ill frontman, drug addicts and/or alcoholic band mates, greedy, lying manipulative individuals (managers) and people who call themselves family by sliding into the lead singers life.

I love the band they were (on stage) in their heyday! But let’s get one thing straight! Every single person involved in this band can be call out for being shady. They all have their own versions of the truth, which is fine. But let’s not forget that if they were up in the dock under cross examination, they’d all be torn to shreds 🤣

    every last one of them!

  11. How anyone can defend them at this point in time is quite beyond me.
there is a multiple valid reasons for this fan base to have the shits with the band.

the no album issue is just the icing on the cake. But as others have explained, they’ve basically stuck their middle finger up at the hardcore fans (not just this year) but for years in relation to the dialogue or lack there of with this section of the fan base. You only have to look at Fernandos posts on here previously that shows his disdain for us and you can bet your last dollar that attitude filters through to axl himself. Let’s be honest, TB and axl are well aware of the feelings of the hardcore fans and have been for years, and what have they actually done to fix it??? Nothing.
how anyone could be shocked at this shit show in 2020 (now 2021) is also beyond me. Children’s books and covid t shirt pretty much sums up Fernando, beta, and even the big 3. They’ve basically proven what they are over a long period of time now and that’s shitty money hungry as swipes who don’t need to give a shit anymore so they don’t.
anyone who thinks 2021 will be any different.. could you please provide whatever you are smoking cause I’d like some 🤣

this band has pissed so many great opportunities away and will continue to do so. Go invest some time in other great bands who’ve got content out to watch or listen too, I’ve been getting into parkway drive recently and their history of making it in the business has been excellent to delve into.

  12. I think the only positive in releasing just 1 album of say 14 songs... would be if it had of helped them to release a 3rd, 4th or 5th album down the line. Which we will never know.
the band was in terrible shape by the end of the UYI era and had they only released 14 songs on 1 album there is still every chance we would never have gotten more. So in hindsight I probably wouldn’t trade what we got and how we got it because there was never a guarantee things would have been better with the alternative.

what a shame that at the end of 93.. these guys couldn’t get past there problems and put their egos aside.. they pissed away the best past of the next 25  years... a one in a billion opportunity to secure a legacy as good as the stones.

It’s in fathomable that it was allowed to happen from Axl/Slash/Management...

Bruh. I have heard these boomers say countless times they don't want new music or they don't care about new music. It's one thing to just be all, "I'm stuck in 1987 forever." But it's another to actively say you hope they don't release new music as if it somehow erases their past work. These fans literally want to go hear "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" at every concert for the rest of their lives and relive that half decade of the '80s/early '90s for the rest of their time.

This is me. Not ashamed to admit it either 🤣

it is what it is these days. I just embrace it now.

Exactly this point! ... Im an aussie member of the forum and as i said... Seen em 3 times now [finck, dj, reunion] all in Adelaide... Ppl will go thats a fact.. But its all the "wttj on the radio crowd" not the real fans who know this band has become a stinky gym sock and joke with no new album or a decent management team... Nothing new in years so not really interested.

i dont think you should be talking for everybody in general terms like that. I consider myself a die hard. ive seen the band twice.. and ill go again... even though i agree id rather new music... its an opportunity ti get out and enjoy myself for a night, i understand other fans who are dirty about the lack of new music and even the lack of information from the band, with interviews, im shitty on them about a lot of things, but i booked a hotel this morning, and ill go again.. it could be the last time? it might not be... but u cant just say its the wttj crowd who will go? thats offensive imo... again... the fact the band isnt doing exactly what i want... isnt going to stop me from going and seeing it again.. it is what it is. im not gonna judge others for not going.

There's two things striking about this thread:

Very few people are remotely interested in new tour dates in general.

Some Australian posters seem fiercely territorial and a bit sensitive  ('all of us will be there', 'we'll pack the venues' etc).

I mean, it's not a slur on the country to be criticizing this never-ending tour you know! When people are groaning at this tour, it's not an attack on Australia! At this stage, unless something major changes, or I could get a ticket very cheaply, I couldn't really give a damn if GNR were playing down my street, let alone in my country. I simply can't spend ever increasing amounts of money to see ever paler imitations of the same show.

One thing is very clear though from the marketing material....this is not a tour to support any new material.

on your first point... there was a stadium full of people at the state of origin last night (world record number of people since the pandemic started)... qld has zero cases... they shut down SA over 14 cases this week... australia is on the right track with dealing with this stuff. I get youre probably sitting behind your keyboard in a state of the US that is recording thousands of cases a day and thats hard for you to understand, but living in newcatsle (200km) from sydney, the pandemic is basically something i see on the news, we have been without a case where i live for months, we have 9 cases recorded in my area since it kicked off.

on your second point... some people want to see the show..others dont... thats not being territorial.. let people enjoy the shows oif they want.

I personally see the points on both sides of the fence.

the only reason i even felt compelled to answer your post is because u seem to have no grasp of whats going on in aus with the pandemic itself.
