  1. I get where metallex is coming from, maybe he could have put it more eloquently I guess...

but here’s the point he’s trying to get at, guns n roses for the first 27 years never had a smurf, it did have a few aliens along the way I guess 😛 and a few more who seem to be set and staying in the band. Haha

i get it, frank annoys some people, Richard isn’t Izzy, a girl looking like a smurf on stage is a long way from the image of the band in the 90s and the 80s.

I used to get all tied up about it too, but after a while I just kind of accepted the band has a history of different line ups over different periods, I guess I just chose my favourite period of the band (illusions) along the way and that’s my vision of what the band was (along with AFD) but in saying that I went to a show with the current line up and it ticked my bucket list...

do I like Melissa? I don’t love her but I don’t hate her either, she doesn’t do much for my ears (I’m one of the ones who doesn’t notice her much) so it doesn’t overly bother me anymore, I’m probably more prone to bitching about frank 😂

either way, it is what it is. I am one of the minority that hopes they keep touring, I love gnr and I’d love to go again!

FWIW, Although this version of the band doesn’t overly measure up to its AFD and illusions heyday, I just spent $1400 on a signed guitar by the band when they were out here in 2017 for a charity auction and I love it. 😜

Any new material released now, especially with Fortus/Frank in the band, will only hurt their legacy. This is a band that is frozen in time at its prime. Why ruin the illusion now?

Someone above said that it's like if Michael Jackson stopped after Dangerous. IMHO, Dangerous was his last classic album. He would have had a flawless career had he stopped there.

Best thing to do is just give the fans an Illusions and Chinese Democracy boxset. Empty the vault. There is nothing they can do now that will come anywhere near the mid-90's GnR material/Chi-Dem sessions.

I’m on the same page with this opinion.

As much as the romantic notion of GNR releasing something that I’d love, that would be fresh and exciting, there’s too many downsides to this now. The aliens, axl’s voice, the material???

I hope they release the illusions stuff, get a fancy box, stick 12 of their best shows together with the doco and sell it for $300 a pop! Boom, I’m in!

As you rightly state, without the other 2 amigos, this band is frozen in time and I hope they don’t tarnish it with a smurf and aliens!

  3. I’m probably the only person on here who thinks this, but with this line up and at their age, I’d almost prefer them to just leave the legacy alone...

if Axl has nothing left to say, I can live with that.

The story of the last 25 years isn’t changeable and it’s been a major missed opportunity because of ego, drink, drugs, greed, mental health issues, scabs, media and a million other things.

I’m happy Axl and Slash have renewed their friendship before one of them died, that is enough for me.

Just release the vault so I can watch all the high res shows of these guys in their prime! That’ll do me!

  4. Al lot of the pros and cons on here seem to be shared by many posters so for me, most people seem to share similar feelings on what was good or bad.

    Pros:

axl slash n duff on the same stage

    Cons:

    the aliens

no Steven and Izzy or at the least Sorum and gilby

the shameless box set at $1000

    duff turning corporate as fuck

    no Axl/slash interviews

no celebration of AFD with the original band members, just a shitty overpriced box set arriving a year too late rather than a full appetite show which leads me to my next point..

missed opportunities on a major level in so many ways. The band had the opportunity to give the fans so much more than what was delivered at certain points but couldn’t do it, either by ego? Bad management, lack of creative vision or a willingness to just not give a fuck. From celebrating 30 years of AFD, to not getting Izzy on board because of greed, and the treatment of Steven by Axl, along with persisting with their no talk policy while shamelessly raping the wallets of their hardest core fans who waited so long to see slash done back has been a major letdown For a lot of very loyal fans.

Another con is the situation which whilst not linked directly to NITL is the situation which developed on here with fans being threatened in regards to music being removed from YouTube and a lack of interest from management to address that situation..

honestly the cons actually could go on and on but the apologists will just call it whinging 😂

Axl n Slash sharing a stage trumps most of that, but the goodwill from loyal fans won’t last forever if they don’t release something new or somehow change it up by being back the original 2 who are still missing.

    Rant over 😜

Er... 3 albums... 2 in my opinion but, I'll concede for the sake of the argument. In the space of 4 years they released 41? songs. Yeh, that's all well and good... but it still doesn't change the fact that after '91 they went on a go slow, and that lasted right up to 2008!!! I realise you want new material, but you can't cherry pick the details, just to write the story you want to believe.

In theory, yes! of curse they can kick out a triple album for the end of the year, or they could release a new single before the last leg of the NITL as a thank you, and a teaser for things to come. They could do all of that, but! the go slow continues! look no further than the setlist. These guys are content, they don't mind playing the same songs in the same order every night! They just want to take it easy. And, yes! I think they want to be creative and I think they want to be creative together! but, do I think it's a pressing issue for any one of them at this point in time? no.

Best advice - Go and listen to the GNR back catalogue and enjoy that in the interim, when you get tired of that go out and find some bands that don't move at a snails pace and dive head first into their music and enjoy it; rinse repeat... you may have to do this multiple times :P

    GNR apologist 😜

  6. I’ve no real issue with him being in the band, and I think everyone knows his role in the band is minimal, as does he.

In regards to whether he’s nice to fans, or not, I think there would be a lot of fans out there with good and bad stories about all gnr members at some point. I think what we do know of these guys is that they have ALL engaged in shitty behaviour at one point or another, but ultimately the music is why we follow them and the band.

  7. I’d definitely go for a UYI box as long as it wasn’t filled with similar crap that the last box had. And at a $1000 a box im definitely not parting with that sort of cash.

i still think that box was over priced junk (for the most part)

i feel they missed a trick on that, how they can charge a 1000 bucks and not include the ritz show and and an interview or something officially packaged of that is a crime .. they had limitless options and what they gave us was junk. If they were to go down this path with a UYI set I think it would be similar.

  8. I’m probably in the minority here but I’m past caring about a new album now.

Any new album (if there ever is one) will feature the aliens on it and that doesn’t interest me even if 3/5ths of AFD is on it.

Leave the legacy in tact and the catalogue alone now... CD already tarnished it once 😜

just release the illusions stuff properly and do some interviews or a book Axl... that will do me.

  9. I’m probably not as disappointed as others because I kinda get what they are trying to do.

What annoys me is, they don’t release anything. For instance, my favourite period of watching this band is the illusions period, and we have 1 DVD release from over 200 shows. When Saskatoon leaked I was stoked, but on the contrary, if they’d have released it for $25 bucks a pop with some special features then I’d pay it... happily.

Thats where i get the shits... it literally makes no sense to do what they’re doing.
