  1. After a few spins, It's a good record and has that Slash DNA all over it.  It does what Slash set out to do which was get a good band together, play a not so purist interpretation of tried and true blues standards with a laid back feel and a really good cast of different singers.

I really thought the Pusher w/Chris Robinson was a strong opener, Crossroads w/Gary Clark Jr was good, hoochie Coochie Man w/Billy Gibbons was awesome, Stormy Monday w/Beth Hart was standout and it was great to hear Paul Rodgers on Born Under a Bad Sign. Killing Floor w/Brian Johnson is still as good as I first heard it and still one of the best songs on the track. key to Highway w/Dorothy was solid, had good energy on that one.

Papa Was a Rolling Stone w/Demi Lovato was better than expected, say what you want about her music or life or whatever, but she's objectively a good singer, denying that would just be bias, and I say that as someone who doesn't care one Iota about her music. Living for The City was also well done, I was skeptical of that just because it's hard to top Stevie(and Innervisions is my fav Stevie Wonder album), but that wasn't the goal and did well with the space that replaces the cinematic bit in the original.

Oh Well w/Chris Stapleton was ok, as was Awful Dream w/Iggy. Metal Chestnut wasn't bad, I thought it just kinda didn't fit with the rest of the album, was more the modern SMKC type thing, which again isn't bad, but its nothing too interesting either.

Good selection of tunes for a blues record, the standards pretty much.

Killing Floor tune with Brain was pretty good....My eyebrow raised a bit when I saw Demi Lovato is singing Papa was a Rolling Stone, gonna be interesting how that turned out.

  3. Nah. I got enough of my own shit to deal with to be bothered about what someone else is or isn't doing.

I do think its a shame though that he didn't put himself out there more. He is definitely talented enough and good songwriter that he could have had a very respectable solo career if he cared to. But he basically retired as a touring musician like 25 years ago and decided to release stuff lowkey and wash his hands of it. It is, what it is.

  4. With some more listens, I'm really digging the song, probably the one I've enjoyed the most of the three they've released up til now.

The Hey Hey's in the verses are really catchy, and I really like the  Chorus. I like how the multitracked lower vocal goes into the higher part. Slash's solo is very understated, but otherwise fits the song well. In a weird way, the left over Robin bit flows well into it.

It’s not Jessica.  I’m pretty sure it a rare post Appetite showing of his original Derrig.  It used to have that graded burst in those days before it became a bit more faded.  But the lighting does accentuate it more than you usually see.

Unlikely that its the Derrig, since that one was never a cherry sunburst. It always had that unique amber finish to it that Derrig sprayed on it. Gibson as far as I know never made burst like that until they made the reissues and even those aren't quite like what Chris Derrig did.

It could be one of the four 87 Standards that Slash ordered from Gibson one of his Max guitars  or simply a Gibson he got around that time in 93. I don't think I've seen it since

  6. Not surprising at all. I can't even say it's disappointing because I honestly have stopped expecting anything of GNR. If anything happens, great. And if not, life goes on just the same. It's long past the point for anyone to expect normalcy from this band, it's been dysfunctional since after Appetite was recorded. They're lucky they were able to get it together long enough to record the illusions and put them out. but Axl's way of making(and not releasing) music has been one way for 25 years and it surely wasn't gonna change now that he's an old man nearing 60.

  7. Finally got to listen to it a couple times. It's not bad...but it isn't great either, maybe it will grow on me some. It has a catchy chorus,  I dig the bass intro to it and Slash's slide solo is real nice. But it doesn't move the needle for some reason.

I am glad they put it out though, I mean fucking hell after going on over 5 years since they reunited the fact we've gotten 2 songs out of them this calender year feels like a monumental Win, even if its largely re-worked, pieced together songs that are 20 years old.

  8. I tend to lean toward UYI I, if only because I think its the most consistent of the two. It flows better having mostly rockers that are only interrupted by Don't Cry and November Rain, It has the stronger closing with Coma  and  generally it doesn't have any weak songs.

UYI II has maybe the greater collection of songs between the two, but man Shotgun Blues and Get in the RIng are the weakest songs off both albums, I almost always skip those. Plus, it also ends the weakest with Don't Cry Alt and the stinker that is My World.

  9. I guess the novelty of them doing something/anything different is cool. And even the music being re-worked isn't bad, but man them lyrics were trash 20 years ago and they still are now lol.

Kudos for effort, but man that bar is nearly to the floor with how they got us even a little amped for what amounts to a troll lol.

  10. oh boy, video of this show are tough to watch. This may have trumped Bridgeschool, Rio '17 and Berlin '18. Axl's voice was  struggling to even hit screaming parts as early as ISE.  He's awfully close to Vince Neil levels of bad singing, like he has to skip lines now he can't keep up.. My god, NR I don't think he sang lines in the same pitch or tone twice.

I guess if there is a semblance of optimism it's that he may improve a bit as he sings more shows......Or not and this is truly his voice on its last legs.

I recall hearing on multiple occasions that apparently TB don’t let Axl visit this very website here anymore, so it wouldn’t surprise me if his entire internet privileges are limited. In the 2011 interview he did with TMS he said he “only started iPod-ing just recently” and that his friends add songs to his iPod for him. This was 2011, mind you, when most people were already starting to use smartphones.

I couldn't help chuckle in amazement at this sentence. Its batshit insane to think about a 60 year old man being barred from visiting a website like some sort of child.

Sucks they've now turned their attention on Brando and the AFD podcast. If they would rather focus their energy on things that prop the band up and get fan engagement, surely the band would be in a better place. But nah, they'd rather handle things like the rank amateurs that they are. They let the NU GNR lineup tank and lo and behold the three union is well on its way to with this tour struggling to sell and nothing of interest on the horizon.

The album is "hosted" by Bootsy Collins... I don't know if that means he just does some intros and interludes but I'm curious to hear it.

Their tribute to Little Richard was pretty good, too:

Yeah, I've been curious on how much involvement Bootsy will have on the upcoming album as well. It would be a crime not to have a track with Bootsy laying down some bass.

Yeah, that was a nice performance.

  13. I'm not too into his music, but he's a good musician and I did really enjoy his track(Leave the door open) with Anderson .Paak. If they manage to put out that Silk Sonic album I'll definitely check it out.
