  1. I'm almost afraid to say it, but it really looks like they thought this through. There seems to be a vision behind this. Like others said, it's a perfect first single – in your face, divisive as fuck, not playing it safe and not afraid to take creative risks.

It just feels so refreshing to finally have a properly released song with all the bells and whistles, as it should be.

I even dig the medusa visuals and the cover with the stupid inverted R

I'm of that view too, sadly.

OK, so no one directly involved in any studio work would have leaked it, but people would have been seen, someone would say something.

I just think back to Axl and AC/DC - it leaked, with photos, pretty much as soon as they rehearsed.

I mean that AC/DC thing may have been a tip off as far as we know. To build some hype before the official announcement.

Either way I imagine any recording has been/will be done completely inhouse, so unless Caram or Fernando or whoever working there leaks something, we won't hear a thing before the thing drops.

All it really boils down to though is "market it, advertise it, promote it, package it nicely, sell it". Those who want it will buy it, those who won't, won't.

There aren't really that many 'possibilities on how to release music' - it's all essentially done the same way as any other product in the world.

Yeah but that's exactly what he's talking about. HOW to market it, advertise it, promote it and package it? Maybe they have a plan or not, but I take it as a positive that stuff has been done and something is brewing.

That and the only other thing I can think of is that Slash is ALWAYS vague about everything.

He was saying he didn't know anything about rejoining GNR all the way up until he posted the Coachella announcement on his social media.

For me, 01/31 remains my "drop dead date". If nothing happens that date, I'm just done with GNR for the year. I've got all the other sections here, tons of other artists and now my own podcast to be concerned with :)

I think people need to calm down, it doesn't really change things that much. The same shit happened in 2015 when Slash was extremely vague and even straight up lying about the reunion happening, while propably rehearsing the NITL shows at the same time.

All he says is that GNR is kind of a different animal compared to their solo efforts. They know the stakes are high and want to do this the right way. At least that's how I intepret this, but what do I know. I mean, yeah they could just throw it on Spotify/Apple Music and call it a day. There are so many possibilities on how to release music these days. For all we know they have it ready to go and are just negotiating the details last minute :shrugs:

In regard to "Jackie Chan" aka "Hardschool" ... It was likely born somewhere in the mid '90s (1996) with the core of the "big three" still in Guns N' Roses. There was a lot of material written then that was scrapped when Slash left the band in late 1996. I have no issue with some of those songs getting dusted off and reworked or mastered. A new record doesn't have to be all songs written between 2016 and present-day. New to me is still new. And just 'cause I heard a "Hardschool" demo or old version, I don't care. Give me proper studio-mastered official releases and I am copping in every format.

    ---------------

    From Chinese Whispers:

    (July 25, 1996)

Duff: "We're in [the studio], writing new songs ..."
    Stern: "And Axl's into it?"
Duff: "Yeah, totally. And, actually, today I have to fly back right after this. We were going to start recording for this Jackie Chan movie, the next one."

    ---------------

"[Slash] also enthuses about the new material Guns N' Roses have been writing. Apparently, the band members are currently trading tapes amongst themselves [before the actual recording sessions]. 'It's amazing stuff,' [Slash] says. 'The songs are really good, and I have a good vibe about it. I wouldn't want to go out and do a bad Guns N' Roses record.'" (Slash, Kerrang, 09/21/96)

    ---------------

"The majority of things are done on the phone, until we actually get in the studio. A lot of things over the phone and sending tapes back and forth. And we've done this for years." (Axl, Rockline, 01/03/94)

    ---------------

"With Guns, there's no problems with material. The problem has always been getting us in the same room. So now that we're in there, it's rockin'." (Duff, Addicted to Noise, 08/30/96)

    ---------------

"[The 1996 tracks are] not something I would want to approach (without Slash), because, at the time, there was only one person that I knew who could do certain riffs that way ... That's the reason why that material got scrapped." (Axl, press release, 08/14/02)

Also don't forget that Fortus alluded in 2015, a few months before the reunion was announced, that they are working on some stuff written way back in the 90s, when Slash was in the band. I think it being Hard School is a very real possibility. It does sound like a Slash riff after all.

Slash doesnt always tell the same anecdotes, but he does have some beloved catch phrases that have been fairly consistent for 30 years, lol.

    "All things considered"

"We were the antithesis of all that was going on" (is this one retired now, maybe? havent heard it much lately)

"_______________" theres at least one other that Im blanking on.

"So on and so forth" is another one I think
