Yep that Rocket Queen is certainly raspier than most versions in the 2011-2014 era that's for sure. I'm sure some will still find plenty of faults though...
-
Much shorter scream in Jungle from Axl but he does something amazing, he seems to almost bend the note to match Slash when he bends the note at the exact same time. The rest of the song is basically a more raw version of 2010.
His voice is actually more rough now than in 2010, his rasp then was this amazing perfect balance of chest and head, this voice is sounding rougher...whether that means its not sustainable, who knows!

Yeah that Nightrain is great, I do think Coachella's was a touch better mind you, but Axl's really getting that grit into his voice at times now, its almost going into that 1991 uber rasp at times in the stronger songs from this show.

The first part of Rocket Queen seems like its getting steadily raspier as time goes by. He is using that slight rasp very well, especially in the 1st verse:

Oh wow..I mean some songs are definately not in that league and pale compared to prime vocals...but that Nightrain is amazing, he power and full blown rasp.
HOW can that not be impressive to you. I mean was you expecting to sound like he has severe throat damage at his age?
Impossible to please some people!
If he puts power and effort into it, thats good enough. If you expect that raging banshee scream...ive heard there are some good bootlegs from 1991...

Some songs are certainly weaker than others.
I think his voice is hard to judge, as some songs are basically still sounding like they did during the 11-14 era. Others are sounding the best they have for a very long time and you can hear him giving it everything he has got. For example no-one can say that this Nightrain isn't vocally outstanding from Axl...and if they do...they should be signed in to some place for their own safety!

That rasp is more fierce than nearly ANYTHING since the 90s, most versions from 2010 aren't this fierce (the only one I can think of is Bucharest, that was Axl with a chainsaw voice)

You cannot compare shipping equipment to Mexico and Europe. Mexico is just on the same trucks they are using anyhow on North American tour, for a European gig they need to box everything in containers and ship by vessel, takes 3 weeks each way.
Some artist will do this for a stadium show. For example Eminem did I think 3-4 shows last year in Europe and that was it. A big stadium like Wembley will be worth for multiple shows.

Fucking love all the YouTube videos slowly appearing here :D, Axl sounds better than ever, especially on Nightrain, I thought he'd struggle with it, but he nailed it.. Sounds like he's got it together with his vocals.
Really hope now they announce a European Tour for later this year, or early next year
From what I've heard this is a super concert, better than the two las Vegas gigs, though a touch 'donald duck' like at times (makes a change from Mickey!)
In all honesty though, its great to hear Axl putting his all into songs, Civil War sounded good and KOHD had some great moments before the audience section where Axl is really inventive with his vocals (all raspy of course!)

Holy hell... that's about the best performance of this song that I've ever heard
I don'tthink anyone can claim he phoned in that performance, that was full on old school rasp from Axl. If he lets that out of the can during the ACDC concerts, he'll win them over I'm sure.

WOW....Nightrain maybe one of the best vocal performances Axl has done since the old days. Basically he puts in a 2010 here with his voice having a 91/92 edge to it at times.
Reminds me of Bucharest 2010!

He is still singing like 2011-2014 BUT he is pushing it to the limit he can go to when HE wants to push it.
Its certainly not anything like 2010 vocals, which were totally unique IMO and it obviously took its toll, but equally its perfectly good for what is required and most people seem to happy enough with what he is producing so far.
If you want 1992 style vocals...guess what...you can watch some 1992 bootlegs! The fact he can do this AT ALL after the vocal abuse is in itself a mircle, some singers totally lose their voice (like can barely sing) in far less time.

Never ever thought Coma would become a staple of a setlist, but thus far this tour it has been! Just having a listen to it.

I think alot of people are still very upset with the way that Brian has been almost just tossed to one side after 3 decades of great work with them. I'm sure they don't much like Axl either, but this is as much to do with their anger at thier OWN band members as it is to do with Axl...

What will GNR minus axl do in those weeks?
I think there were musings that Salsh will write a new album for the SMKC, I'm sure someone said they had some time booked during May for that stuff.

Just wanted to say Axl looks so much better with just the t-shirt on, as we saw tonight. No joke, this is the first time he's taken off the leather jacket since 2010.
Yep the guy really is looking more like his old self, I don't mind the jackets but I think the T-shirt look is much better, especially now he seems to have lost some weight so isn't look anywhere near as chunky as he did. Plus he has his hair out alot more, so we really are much closer to the vintage Axl Rose.
Just time fior him to grow the Jesus beard for the summer! Ha!

Axl's rasp is identical to the Hellfest Paradise City rasp, which is quite cool!

I'm sure it won't be long before stuff is on youtube anyway guys for those missing the live stream right now.

Man they shouldn't have streamed NR. Not the best for showcasing how great Axl's voice have been. Should've been Jungle, Nightrain, Riff Raff, and maybe Paradise City depending on how that goes.
Agreed, I think his voice really sounds pretty tame when he sings it, you can hear he is not sure what register he should sing in. At least he has a decent tone on it.
IMO its one of the weaker songs he does nowdays. Of course there is the great payoff at the end.
-
They may do the ACDC stuff last, or they may just do those two songs who knows?!
-
Nightrain sounds brutal, almost 92 level of rasp, a little deeper obviously but same type of voice!
Axl certainly is giving this all he has now!
-
The great thing is at least Axl CAN bring it when he wants. I think at times during 2014 SA tour some of us were thinking his voice was totally done for. What he is doing here compared to there is nothing short of outrageous really!

It's one of their Top 5 most downloaded songs on iTunes. Won't be leaving the setlist ever.
Plus its a great chance for some Axl-audience interaction. Giving Axl's love of Freddie Mercury, its a good chance to re-create what he did.

When's the curfew?
Someone said around 1AM the other day, so they have around 20 minutes. I'm sure since they payed big money for Guns they won't mind running slightly over, its clear they are nearing the end of their setlist now anyway.

Cool sounding KOHD so far, its not quite so slow IMO tonight, its a little more up tempo.

Dropping keys will make it far worse, the trouble spots ARE in the mid ranges, dropping keys will just mean he has to use that very weak mid range more often.
It all comes down to one word, motiviation.
He was motivated to kick butt in 2006, possibly also helped by VR doing their thing as well.
He was motivated in 09-10 to kick butt due to CD officially being out and it was the chance to sell it truly to the world.
He was NOT as motivated in 11-14 due to CD not having a big impact, slowly declining audience sizes (more smaller arena shows, etc) and no sign of anything new and interesting on the horzion
He IS motivated in 2016, due to having his old band mates back together, big sellout shows and the ACDC project in the wings.
Pretty clear really.
