    That's quite the claim.

I guess it depends on how one evaluate's a song/music.  For me it's all about making something identifiable and unique.  A lot is predicated on the melody.  Scrapped doesn't have the strongest of melodies for me so I'm not sure how a remix would fix that.

Got ya. That makes sense, like verse course verse course?

I think some of the stuff Axl has written has been inspired by music that always doesn’t fit that mold. Some queen songs, some Elton John songs, etc. don’t always fit that as well.

I think all four are just so fucking unique

HS-straight ahead rocker with a crazy intro into that familiar cadence that we have been hearing since 2006. Bizarre Coda in the middle leading into that wacky bucket outro

Atlas-Almost poppy. Great drum sound throughout. Like if GNR had a baby with The Who and Pearl Jam. Great Melody.

State of Grace- Fucking weird in the best possible way. So industrial. Almost wondered if Bach got this and Sorry confused because this song has a mean grinding underbelly. Maybe one of the best Axl screams ever that I wish I had gone on for a full minute.

Perhaps- Amazing piano. Crazy good melody. That Brian May guitar tone....Fuck. The coda into that piano section.

Axl is a musical genius. People outside of us super fans do not acknowledge this enough.

Chuck Klosterman is right. Axl makes the best songs. They sound the way I want songs to sound.

Really makes you wonder what was going through the labels head when Axl gave them the finished version of 2000 Intentions.

How would any person in their right mind want to release 2008 CD over this album...really mind boggling 😵

Now imagine if the label lets this album fly. How different is the history of GnR if this album is released? Axl leads the way for GnR and shows his genius? Who knows...

But the idea is the song, or at least how I'm evaluating these things.

They could spend an eternity on Silkworms and it would still be terrible unless they wrote a completely different song.  Production doesn't turn a shit song into a good one.  A good to great song can still shine through a rough exterior.

This song just needs a bit more production and maybe a guitar solo (though I kind of like the lack of one).  There's no filler here.

I disagree about quality production has the ability to make a crap song good. Just check out some of the fan made cd mixes. I heard one done on Scrapped and it actually made the song listenable

Hindsight is always 20/20 but also neglects the reality of what is. I don’t know if Guns N Roses have ever had the financial success they’ve had recently with the re grouping so what solid advice is, I don’t know. Ideally yes, maybe that’s what should have happened. But it didn’t and it worked out fine. Axl is almost universally respected today, the band is extremely successful, we got great music out of New gnr, velvet revolver, solo work, acdc, etc.

If we want ideal situations, people like Tom zutaut have nothing to do with the music of Guns N’ Roses. He is quite literally a beggar and hanger on. I know it’s a business but we are talking ideals here which has nothing to do with money, A&R people etc. ideally music like any art is created by one person or a group and then belongs to everyone collectively. Nothing personal against Tom, but it’s positions like his that complicate the entire thing. all told, it worked out well for everyone the way it happened.

My theory is Axl came in with the name and a lot of the creative direction, carried the flag while the others were burnt out on various substances, thought he was abandoned and/or cornered to take something a certain direction, and did what he did for what he felt he worked for. I don’t really know though because all I have is what everyone has to go off of. You also have to consider Guns wasn’t what it is today in 1999. Obviously they had huge success but in 1999, they were only 10 years off of their initial success. It’s not like they were the Beatles coming back replacing Lennon. I mean Slash is only just now coming into that legendary Hendrix/ Page/ Clapton guitar echelon because he’s been at it so long. Axl was in his mid 30s then and probably didn’t think it was over or nostalgia from then on.

If you started a lemonade stand with your friends that was really successful initially, and you worked hard at it, spoke to the people, ran the numbers, basically were the face of it and people LOVED it. They’ve never had lemonade like this. It reminds them of the raw lemonade they got in the 70s and very unlike the synthetic lemonade they get today. Then, You make new recipes that are different from your initial product but extremely popular. You get more fans because you decided to mix in ice tea and expand your customer base. Your friends go along with it for a bit then come to you after the success and say “I’m not selling that iced tea lemonade shit anymore” and this is the lemonade we are selling, shut up and squeeze. You say, well this lemonade has potential, I’d like to work with it, but it needs something. They say this is the product, period. You watch it flop and feel vindicated in a way and think fuck this shit, I’m taking the brand we created that I piloted and I’m doing this. I’m enhancing our lemonade. That’s basically how I view the gnr saga from 85-99.

    Shut up and squeeze lol

Wow. What a load of bullshit that all turned out to be (those quotes from Matt and Duff I mean). I wonder if any of those twelve “four minute rockers” ended up on Aint Life Grand, VR, SMKC, Beautiful Disease, Loaded, etc.

Do you think Axl would’ve let Duff and Slash take “Guns material” to use on their own projects?

(More) lawsuits probably would have been perused I bet

  6. It really bothers me that some people are giving terrible reviews to this song. It’s a demo!!!! What if the title to this thread had the word “demo” or “rough mix” in it? Would you people still be so harsh?

I highly, highly doubt satisfaction, teenage wasteland, wish you were here, etc. would be legendary songs if the operational demo track was released.

Do people think artists go to a studio, record the vocals, bass, guitar, and drums all in one take? The engineer or producer then click “burn” and magically the world gets a generational song?

This song CLEARLY could be a hit once the final version was released (or leaked).

Every version of IRS uses the exact same vocal tracks as the one released on CD.

The same is true of ALL of the demos.  The actual vocals are identical on every single version, even Oh My God.  Exceptions being the few lines changed at the end of The Blues and of course the This I Love remix which appears to actually have been re-recorded.

There's no difference in the rest of the versions as far as the vocals go.

Either I have a different 99’ version than you, or the vocals have been manipulated. Axl sounds like Axl of 91-94 on the “99’” i got

This has been answered several times; there is no 2 minute leak of The General. There is a file that evader made from a terribly low quality cell phone recording. There are thread dedicated to all of the real leaks that are out there right now, the 2 minute version of The General is not legitimate.

Speaking of Evader, earlier today I was wondering if he planned on doing a “Atlas Shrugged” Evader mix for us new GnR music hungry people!
