Yeah I heard about that earlier, really surprised me that they got bad reviews when the whole time leading up to this AM were pretty much praised as a headliner. So it makes you think what is in store for Guns after tonight!

Arctic Monkeys have obviously changed direction musically and it caught a lot of casuals out really, lots of slower tempo and lesser known songs which didn’t really land as a headline act. The BBC described their performance as “uneven” which considering their association with the festival its about as close as they can get to saying they flopped, without actually saying it.

The lesson is fairly simple and obvious - stick to the hits and a positive attitude and lots of energy will be enough, as long as Axl doesn’t completely butcher the vocals.

Sadly, and I never thought I'd say this, but I have absolutely zero desire to go back to London to see them again - especially in another large/stadium type setting.

If they put a UK tour on the back of it and play some other venues, I could be tempted, but I'm not dropping about £1k for me and my partner to travel to London to see the same rehashed show. It would appear I'm done - and that makes me sad.

I know what you mean, the cost isn’t as bad for me but the initial excitement of seeing a new UK show was quickly followed by eurgh another expensive trip down to London. At least it’s in the centre and not the arse end of north or east London like the previous times.

Are there any rumours of any other UK shows? I noticed Pink and Bruce Springsteen are both playing Villa Park in Birmingham in June a couple of weeks before they’re also scheduled to play BST Hyde Park… that would be perfect for me but probably unlikely.  I don’t think GNR have played Birmingham for at least a decade now.

Hearing rumours of a Wembley stadium date next summer. Just googled it and there’s a website ‘allevents’ claiming 10th June as a date. they usually announce uk/European dates around this time of year so expect updates soon.

Wembley would be great, but so far with the reunion they’ve only played West Ham / Olympic and Spurs stadium, which are both big stadiums but shit for travelling to (especially from outside London) and in Spurs’ case poor technical set up too. I only assume those two were selected because they’re cheaper to hire than Wembley, which makes me think it’ll be the same story next time too

  4. Just back to my hotel in London now, Spurs is a terrible venue location wise - however the show was epic, incredible vibe and down in the GA section we were all having a great time. Feet haven’t hurt this much for years after that much jumping and bouncing. Best time seeing them for me (3rd time since the reunion). Not even the rain could dampen the mood. Just a shame no rocket queen, YCBM, Coma or November Rain, but then maybe a shorter set makes it all run better.

how long did it take to  hop on the train after  the concert?

looks like there will be an absolute mayhem there tomorrow as northumberland park station will be closed.

is there a place to park within walking distance?

Not there tonight but have been previously and it’s in an awful location, 25 minute walk to seven sisters at least if you’re heading to the city centre. Think there’s an overground a bit closer but not sure which routes you can take from it

Do you think its enough that you show the QR code from your phone? I dont have a printer available.

The email from Ticketmaster says it needs to be printed but if you you log into the website it says “Print your tickets or just display the barcodes below on your mobile device, to be scanned at the door.”

I assume it needs to be direct from the website rather than just a screenshot though

It's just strained. Saying that, 2013 was one of the weakest years of his career. If he can come back from that I think he can come back from this. A break, vocal coach and trying would help greatly. It'll never be peak but I think it Coul come close.

Has he just not had an 18 month break because of Covid cancellations? I think his current ability give or take some minor tweaks is basically as good as we’re going to get

The studio version is terrible and I don't even want to hear it by accident.  It was a fun song live but possibly because due to the mix and my location in the pit it was a little hard to hear Axl clearly on songs with heavy guitar.  Without the childish lyrics it is more enjoyable.

The actual “music” of Absurd isn’t bad and I definitely think Slash has done a great job of turning it into something which sounds like a real track. However the lyrics are just so awful it brings the song down to the same level as My World. I can’t take it seriously and struggle to not turn it off as soon as the first verse starts. I get why it would be more palatable in a mosh pit when you’re not intently listening to the lyrics.

  9. I think Axl sounds better when you’re actually at the gig in the moment rather than listen to a recording of the show. Obviously it’s more about the experience and general feeling rather than the technical quality of the performance.

Anyways, I thought Hard Skool works great as a live track from my first listen. The song had definitely grown on me.

Maybe the only disappointment is that they’ve had this stashed away and have never given it a chance previously with this line up or the others. I hope they start kicking out some more ones like this now. Although they can put Silkworms back in the vault.

  10. First listen I thought it was Ok but not the rip-roaring “second debut” I had hoped for (we’ll just ignore absurd for now). Felt to me that the vocals were a bit too detached from the music, sounded like they had been copy and pasted over a separate track. I guess all music is done that way but just sounded like it didn’t match particularly well. Will definitely listen again when I can access it without messing around with a VPN

I'm not saying Hard School is equal to YCBM, Don't Cry, or November Rain. I'm saying it's a million times better than two very shitty songs that made it onto Chinese Democracy. I'm also saying that YCBM, Don't Cry, and November Rain are a hell of a lot better than Anything Goes & Out Ta Get Me. You disagree with this??

I disagree with the notion that Hard School was considered so good it was held back specifically for it to be a highlight track for next album, it’s not that good, unfortunately.

It’s easy to see why NR or Don’t Cry weren’t on Appetite, they didn’t fit stylistically despite being better songs than some on that album. I can’t see why Hard School was left off Chinese if it was considered good enough. Maybe Axl did view it in the same mould as YCBM, after all he thinks Absurd is a good pick for a comeback single so who knows what his plan was.

Hard School is a million miles better than Scraped & Riad. I don’t think it was a case of Hard School missing the cut. They were holding it back for a later album, similar to songs like You Could Be Mine, Don’t Cry, and November Rain. Those 3 songs were a lot better than the likes of Anything Goes & Out Ta Get Me.

Hard School is Ok but to put it alongside the likes of You Could Be Mine, Don’t Cry or November Rain is silly IMO. Maybe it was pencilled in to be on a later album but I have to agree with the previous post, it wouldn’t be a main song regardless. I would put it in the same category as IRS - decent album song but nothing special.

That said I would love to hear a completed version of it, with Slash.

Which begs the question….why would this be used to promote any UYI reissue as surely nothing of this has its roots in that era? I see a lot of people saying it’s UYI italics but it’s actually italics which go back to AFD too….so it’s just ‘their’ italics.

I know Fortus referenced working on something from the slash era but I think we all thought that was Hardschool?! And Axl already said it was a Dizzy/Pitman thing….

    Its all so confusing 🤣🤣

But it has been stated that Slash and Duff weren’t really on board with the industrial techno sound Axl wanted to bring in so maybe it does date back to that time just before Slash left

But I don’t buy that this has anything to do with UYI at all. They’d have released ain’t going down or something known explicitly from that era if that was the case

Very happy there's some movement towards a new release. But the song no matter how I twist it in my sick gnr brain, I can't like it.

With a completely new vocal line and lyrics there might be a good song here.

Not only are the lyrics completely shit but then they are are repeatedly over and over just to rub it in further just how shite they are

    “PUSSY FULL OF MAGGOTS!”

  15. Just logged in for the first time in years to say… silkworms? Really?

Man they must really be out of ideas if this is what they’re bringing to the table as “new” material.

Put it back where it came from and maybe in 20 more years of tinkering it might be ok as a GnR song

  16. They probably need to streamline the show to 2 hours and just focus on nailing the hits rather than playing all the deep cuts and crucially the covers which no one wants to hear. No one is going to a GNR show to hear Wichita Lineman or Black Hole Sun. The 3 hour shows were fucking great when they first reunited but that time has now passed and it’s time to focus on putting on a great show rather than a long show

  17. Would be great if they released something, anything, even an unfinished demo of one song. With most of the world in bored and depressed in lockdown it would be a great way to repay fans and would get a lot of people talking about the band. We all know there’s a hell of a lot of stuff locked away which would be ready to go

  18. Last time in London it was around £95 for GA, think it was around £120 for the golden area (what a rip off) and that was at peak reunion hype so I’m hoping it will either stay roughly the same or actually come down. From memory last time didn’t they create a 2nd date as soon as tickets went on sale due to the immediate demand? It will be interesting to see if that happens this time and if the hype for tickets is anywhere near as much (I doubt it will be).

I saw them in London in 2017 and then at Download in 2018 so for me the reunion has lost the original excitement but I guess for people who only saw them in London 3 years is quite a long time. First show at Spurs shiny new stadium might also pull in a few extra sales.
