  1. I think the new leaks are exciting and that obviously as it’s new and unheard it makes people biased towards the unreleased stuff. Had it actually have been a real album I’m not sure on how well it would have been received.

I don’t think the rough mixes are perfect, a bit more work required, equally the final album felt like it had too much work done in places. I wonder if there’s a middle version from say 2006 which would be perfect?

in terms of individual songs, I like Atlas and especially Perhaps (Hardschool is also decent although I guess that doesn’t count as it wasn’t on “mix 1”), along with the original “The Blues” so it’s a shame those songs aren’t on the final album. I don’t particularly like a couple of CD songs eg Riad, Scraped, Shacklers but it’s seens like they’d have probably have been released any way, either in album 1 or another one, along with Silkworms.

I’d have to lean towards the real 2008 album. In a perfect world Scraped, Shacklers, Riad, Sorry would have been dumped for Atlas, Perhaps and Hardschool with the 2001 Blues version instead of Street of Dreams

  2. I’m by no means a music critic or anything, but on the other demos of Atlas there is a chord progression or something when he sings “what it takes to be a man” which was my favourite part of the song but it’s slightly killed off in the latest mix, overall though it sounds better with the added guitar parts.

On perhaps i can’t quite work out why or what the difference is but I prefer the version I had before

And this is the version of The Blues I always wanted, those (robin finck?) guitar parts are so clear

Thanks for the comment and quotes. If i had to guess, Axl's original plan of a trilogy has been completely upended by the reunion, so i would hope that he includes The General on the first album with Slash and Duff since UYI, especially since it is an alleged sequel to Estranged.

I think the idea of a trilogy had gone well before the reunion. I remember reading that it was supposed to be fully released by 2012.. well 2012 came and went a long time ago without any further mention of a new album let alone 2 so whether Axl has any intention of releasing these songs now or if Slash would want to work on someone else’s song... I am not sure

Till further notice- State of Grace is still the champion of leakfest 2019. Can any other song take out the champ?!

State of grace would be the song I’d most like to hear completed but I think the version that leaked is only a rough initial version - who knows if it was ever developed fully.

Overall I think Perhaps comes out on top for me. Can’t believe they didn’t put it on the album or even played it live once

Yeah, i was thinking that too... But I Was talking about the other CD tracks... Any differences that are worth talking about?

I’m quite new to the leaks so not sure if the CD songs are anything new or not. The quality is very high, probably higher than previously leaked demos. They are virtually fully completed songs. The keyboards / synth sounds are noticeably much louder in the mix

I think there is a different solo on Rhiad to the album but it’s not my favourite song so might just be unfamiliar with it

He would say and do anything for his hoard to maintain it's value. It's the only thing that jobber has that makes him feel important. He says it's such a burden being "the Chinese Democracy guy", but he takes every chance to log onto whatever message board will still have him to lord it over the fans.

    Money in escrow, motherfucker.

To me hoarding is quite a bizarre thing to do although I’ll admit I don’t know much about what goes on “behind closed doors” with this sort of stuff.

If the band or label decided to release any of this, or if it leaks out somehow (for example a master CD appearing on eBay by random like this all has) it’d be worthless to any hoarders.

And if no one knows it exists because it’s been hoarded away then it’s worthless because there’d be no one interested. As soon as you sell it to someone else it loses all value because they could just immediately leak it to every one else.

Surely there’s only a very limited number of super fans prepared to pay any significant money for unreleased material

I wasted about 70 hours 5 years ago cleaning that clip up, altering Eq, stretching it, pulling it this way and that trying to hear the lyrics ( and convinced myself I had lol) never heard tonto mentioned though.

Heard enough to make me want the full tune though

there are a lot of songs from the Chinese democracy era which don’t actually include the title of the song anywhere in the lyrics & its quite an obscure reference for a song so I bet Tonto isn’t even mentioned in the song called Tonto let alone mentioned in The General

When the albums first dropped, I felt the same way. But over a period of a couple years as I played the hell out of them, I discovered that UYI I is the superior album for me.

LALD, Don't Cry (Orig.), Perfect Crime, Garden of Eden and Coma are among my most favorite tracks from both albums and all appear on UYI. I'd also place Civil War, Breakdown, and Locomotive in my tier 1 but that's only 3 songs compared to 5.

Choosing between the two albums is akin to choosing a favorite child. You really can't do it! But I cannot deny that if forced to choose between the two while stranded on a island -- I'd have to go with UYI I..

I think UYI II possibly has some better individual songs; Estranged and You Could Be Mine in particular, but definitely also has the majority of the worst songs; My World, Shotgun Blues, Get in the Ring, so fine, (also not a fan of alt don’t cry) and for me these songs just bring the album down a bit too far

UYI is better as a listen from start to finish. Although there is filler like you ain’t the first, back off, bad apples it’s not so bad you want to turn it off

  9. I think it shows that actually there are some great songs on Chinese Democracy... but there are all buried under the mix!

It seems like the album was ready in the early 00’s but axl spent 6 or 7 years endless tweaking parts here and there and the songs lost their edge in the process.

It’s a shame. If the album had been released at that time it might have been received better by the fansIn the end by 2008 it had become a bit of a joke that it took so long and the album was never going to be good enough to make up for the time it took.

I would not be surprised if maybe they add some covers or some songs that they don’t normally play from illusions or other albums. I would bet if we hear anything new it would be towards the end of the tour

I’m really tired of the covers though. And the same set list

People would lose their shit if they played any of this material live but instead they’ll play 20 minutes of covers that no one cares about each night

Oh, and theres a talk PRL is actually Perhaps, so theres probably way more complete versions of the song on the discs.

Only was to find out is if some one leaks the PRL track...

the PRL version is stated as no guitars so it would kind of make sense for there to be a version with guitars from around the same time, maybe this is it?

I can't say I was expecting to hear Atlas Shrugged, a song treated as a legendary 'holy grail' by fans and people who'd claimed to hear it before it leaked, and think it was sort of shit in comparison to the several other songs that got leaked.

2019's already a more interesting year for GNR than 2018 was, and it's nothing to do with the band's actions!

I think this is just an early version, unfinished. I read apparently Atlas was cut from CD quite late in the day so there’s a version somewhere which is 100% complete and probably sounds very different and probably much better

Apparently Thyme was just an instrumental track

Think of how "Sirius" by Alan Parsons Project was really just an intro for "Eye in the Sky":

There is a track called “PRL w/out Thyme” and another called “Thyme (PRL)” which is significantly shorter  than the first one which makes me think Thyme is some sort of extended (maybe instrumental only) intro style track and that PRL and Thyme are separate despite some people suggesting they are one and the same

  14. At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but it builds up and actually thought it was pretty good.

Maybe it’s just because of the excitement of “new” material though, I wonder how a song like this would have been received if it had been released on CD?

Anyway all I can say is I’m loving these leaks. I just wish we could hear more completed or final versions (in particular this and Atlas - hard school already seems 99% to me) but I’m guessing at this point in time it’s unlikely unless Slash and Duff redo them, I’d assume though they’d rather record their own songs than someone else’s though

  15. I can’t believe there is much demand outside hardcore GNR fan circles for these leaks. I don’t really get the effort from the management team to get these removed from the internet or attempt to bring legal cases against anyone. Unless they are planning to release these officially at some point as part of a new album there’s no way they can monetise this any serious way, they should just let them out and see if any of them gain any buzz online

  16. The first version I heard was slightly bland and boring, second version I heard seemed a bit beefed up on the drums which ties in with some of the comments that there are a couple of different versions floating around. The heavier drums was more interesting IMO although clearly missing the final guitar parts so I imagine the end version would sound a bit different.

It makes sense based on the title that it would be paired with Catcher and have a similar sound and style

  17. I think there is a difference between acknowledging that something is offensive, and being personally offended.

Am I personally offended by the alternative cover for AFD.. not really, I am not a woman who has or has been in danger of being raped. Do I think the cover is offensive... yes - of course it will be to some people, it is a dishevelled woman being / recently been raped.

My question would be, would you be comfortable wearing a t shirt with that picture of a raped woman  to work for female colleagues to see, or wear it to pick up your kids from school with it for all the little children and other parents to see?

maybe some would be fine with it as it is just showing appreciation for an particular album.. I would imagine others might not be ok with it
