  1. Remember how much it was "100% confirmed that Simon Wright was back" which later became "he rehearsed with the band but was unfit."

Generally bollocks when it comes to their drummer speculation. Matt Laug was never even hinted at.

Yes. Someone on the forum bought the issue and nowhere does it actually provide that quote or proof. The problem with running away with headlines. Slade can barely get through a song post-stroke. Why wouldn't he have been at Power Trip? It just doesn't make sense.

It was a reworking of this:

From a semi-recent interview where he talked about Thunderstruck.

  3. Slade won't be back. From what I saw it was repurposed quotes from an old interview.

Pretty easy for the supposed "insiders" to keep shifting to "no, tomorrow is going to be the day instead" and then claim to have known all along when something eventually does materialize.

I think it's better to just wait for the AC/DC camp at this point. Lots of going in circles on the AC/DC forum. Lots of predictions getting muddled with speculation from local news and so forth.

  4. To be fair, the song was never going to live up to the mythical proportions that have been bestowed upon it for years. However, when I'd hear things like "big guns" it was hard not to expect another There Was A Time or something.

I now firmly believe we did indeed get the best batch of songs we could have on Chinese Democracy.

Everything has just been okay to me so far. Absurd was the highlight because of how, well, absurd it was to be the first "Slash and Duff are back" song. The humor of that wasn't lost on me. Easily the one I enjoy the most.

Hard Skool and Perhaps are enjoyable if not unremarkable. I'd probably give Perhaps the edge.

The General though? Eh. I honestly think it's terrible. I don't think a better mix would have changed anything.

  5. Axl is in his best shape in years and still gives a frontman performance like no other, but his voice failed him many times this year even when he was trying his best. It's just not happening there (in regards to his current voice condition). Let's also not overlook the fact that by the end of 2016 he was already cracking hard on some of the songs like Hells Bells and Thunderstruck. It was clearly difficult then and he's now 7/8 years older and struggling enough with his own songs let alone the Brian material. Sure, we can say he wouldn't want to let Angus down and would bring the goods, but I just don't think he can. He can barely wheeze his way through Welcome to the Jungle currently. Unless AC/DC wants to only do songs like Boogie Man or something.

There is also zero point in AC/DC doing a tour without Brian again, but even as the hypothetical "could Axl do it again" sort of way I just really don't think he could.

Hmmmm. That's difficult. I've seen them in 2009 on the Black Ice tour (still with Malcolm) and again in 2015 on the Rock Or Bust tour (still with Brian, shortly before Axl/DC). They were absolutely amazing both times and I had a really great time. Later on I saw Angus guest on a 2017 GnR show and again he lit an absolute fire under the entire gig. And now I'm just a little bit worried that seeing them again will never be able to live up to those other gigs. So if they tour it'll be a difficult decision for me whether I'd go.

That's where I'm at. I've seen them six times - three with Malcolm/Phil, twice on ROB with Brian, and then AXL/DC. I certainly don't feel like I'd be missing much, but at the same time, it's Angus Young.

  7. AC/DC Portugal's YouTube channel has a fantastic edit of Donington that uses as much of the original audio as possible (from various sources). It's definitely the version I'd recommend these days. As time goes on, I find I really can't stand the overdubs that are all over the concert. I get the things they had to fix (ie. Brian completely missing the second Hells Bells verse or Angus' total botch of the Thunderstruck solo), but the overall DVD just feels so sterile. That tour deserved better. To date I still think the cleanest release is the Stiff Upper Lip Live DVD even though it's far from Brian's best vocals.

    That’s sweet. I have the Orange PPC212ob which is a compact 2x12 cab. Can’t imagine lugging around a full 4x12! Even a full-size 2x12 would be a lot

    4x12s are cool though…

The look is definitely iconic, but for the (mostly) indie gigs and performing arts stuff I do these days I just don't want to be that guy.

Definitely impressed with the DSL so far. I've learned I really like the V-Type speakers. Almost like the voice of a Greenback but with the clarity of a Vintage 30. More than suitable for everything I play.

Is your Second Jubilee long gone?

Traded it for a mint 1990 JCM 900 half stack when I was getting back into gigging after the pandemic. The 900 definitely sounded immense, but man are half stacks overkill for any gig these days. Definitely felt cool to have the Marshall backline again for a while though.

  10. Because I'm never satisfied with amps and my tastes are always changing, I went on the hunt once again. I had been rocking a JCM 900 half stack for a couple years again while I did some more stuff with various local rock bands. Quickly got tired of that. So tired that I even used my Orange Micro Terror at a couple of gigs through a borrowed cab.

Decided it was time for a proper combo again. I tried the newer Marshall DSL40CR against the Studio Classic JCM 800. I liked the idea of a 1x10 combo. Super lightweight amp that could plug into a cab if needed but just as easy to grab and go. The problem? It's double the price since it's made in England (even though the boards and build quality seem identical). Honestly, when I did an A/B in my local music store the DSL40CR on the Crunch channel sounded nearly identical. At half the price and with additional conveniences, it was an easy choice I'm officially back in Marshall land with the DSL40CR. Stock V-Type speaker sounds great, and the Emulated Line Out is actually pretty decent. I'm sure many people would prefer their own IRs for direct stuff, but for a quality "one amp to rule them all" I'd say I'm pretty satisfied. To my ears it has more of what I think of as the "Marshall bite" versus the more compressed sound of the Jubilee.

See you all again next year.

True, but at least there is a pathway to rooting out those responsible and removing them, so that there are not repeated things happening from the same people.

If Kats right then there are no policies in place at all within gnr & that can only be from astounding miss-management

Indeed. It just points to sheer incompetence.

Id argue it’s worse than pathetic, it’s actively disgusting. They are basically ignoring her claims, trying to paint her as a money grabber AND saying she was treated well. specifically saying she was “paid and treated well” comes off as a giant middle finger to the sexual harassment allegations. It’s gonna get bad

Agreed. A very tone deaf statement on the band's behalf - regardless of what PR person wrote or prepared it.

That statement to RS and them filling a suit against her first makes me think they not only knew this was coming but that it would be big time damage.

that RS piece, imo, only makes them look worse.

forget the “album”.. what an utter shitshow.

My thoughts exactly. A new album from this mess couldn't be further from my mind now.

Beyond shameful. Fernando is human garbage.

She did appear at the Hollywood Bowl shows. I was in the back, but I remember introducing her during the show.

    this  was my thought too

I think I missed this. What shows did Melissa miss? I do recall reading she was ill but only checked out the Hollywood Bowl footage and she was there. And did anybody fill in for her at the shows she missed?

  15. I do think there will be a tour, but I expect it to just be a handful of dates in major cities with some final dates in Australia. I can't possibly imagine multiple dates in places even if the demand is there.
