  1. Only managed to find a short clip of Pretty Tied Up but I'm glad Axl sang the chorus in his natural register. Sounds terrific that way instead of swapping to the Mickey voice for the chorus.

Anything Goes has never been a favourite of mine but that sounded pretty darn good.

Bad Obsession sounded absolutely mint. Love it.

  2. I really do think his poor website layout and awkward ordering process deters everyone from casual to hardcore fans from buying more. A half decent website and a proper storefront would do wonders. He could easily use sites like Teespring or whatever to sell custom tailored merch and he wouldn't even have to do anything. Likewise, set up Shopify or something similar to handle the vinyls and physical music releases. Lots of tools at his disposal these days, and while those sites also come with fees it would be offset by how much more things he'd be likely to sell. Then he also wouldn't have to worry about packing/shipping orders himself.

  3. Didn't a Bucket fan end up getting another one of his guitars decently cheap (like $1000ish if I remember correctly) because it just so happened that it was one of the only offers on it? I feel like I recall a YouTube video on it. It wasn't NatterNet who got it but he spoke about it.

Bucket should really list on Reverb instead of through his site. Maybe he doesn't want to deal with the Reverb fees but he could probably counter that with how much more money/attention it would receive. People pay big money just for the signature models on Reverb. This is somewhat of a holy grail among Bucket fans and collector's alike.

  4. Relatively light year thus far:

May 5th - Billy Idol (Niagara Falls)

June 29th - Tears For Fears (Toronto)

    August 8th - Guns N' Roses (Montreal)

September 19th - Duran Duran (Toronto)

Probably most looking forward to Tears For Fears because I've yet to see them live and the new album is fantastic. Also excited to see Duran Duran again because last summer they nearly got rained out and cut the song I was most excited to hear (incidentally, Hold Back The Rain). Fortunately, it's indoors this time!

Would have liked to have seen Queen + Adam Lambert again but I couldn't be bothered with the Ticketmaster battle and extortionist prices. Going to see a local Queen tribute in May instead.

  5. An event like this is the perfect gig for Brian at this stage in my opinion. Co-headlining is a good excuse to trim the set down. Instead of the two hours that they would generally do with Brian they can do 90 minutes. Brian was winded at Hawkins but he'll know that going in this time. The preparation will be completely different than a little one off like that.

I fully expect that the band will tune a full step down as was done for the Hawkins gig, and he'll sound as good as a nearly deaf Brian Johnson at 75/76 is bound to sound.

Side note - I also giggle at the idea of Angus Young playing in D Standard.

Tool will be excellent but will probably be missing a little bit without their incredible arena show layout.

Despite their age, Iron Maiden and Metallica will probably provide all- around respectable sets

GNR, AC/DC, and Ozzy Osbourne will have solid music with lackluster vocals

Im guessing $500 tickets but for all of that, I think it’s reasonable

Ozzy may use playback like he did for a couple of those other one-off performances, so hey, his vocals might be outstanding!

  7. Sounded good overall. He seemed to lose a bit of control on the third verse but quickly recovered. Easily one of the better performances of Jungle from Axl recently, although I suppose it helps that he had the higher bits (mostly) covered by Carrie.

His losing control is what worries me about his vocal longevity than his actual tonality. His approach on the first verse sounded way cool, but I'm not sure how sustainable that is. If they could restructure the songs to have the vocal melodies fit more into that range then I think that'd be a cool approach.

Still, good to see him out and about.

  8. I borrowed a 1982 Hiwatt Custom 50 SA112 for some gigs I had over the weekend.

Never played a Hiwatt before but I know this particular iteration of it is somewhat maligned because it's a post-Reeves variation and gets away from the expected Hiwatt soundof loud cleans and tons of headroom. Generally not my preference - I like amps that drive sooner.

But... god damn. This might be the best sounding amp I've ever heard. It's definitely more "boosted JCM 800" than the traditional Hiwatt sound (even has a stock Celestion instead of the usual Fane speakers). It feels like what I expected of the Jubilee amps. It's in that ballpark but warmer, smoother, and yet still enough midrange bite to cut through.

I always thought AC30's were loud but this thing was next level. Master on about 2 was more than enough for these clubs and even then I probably could have turned down. Fortunately, it sounded great at a more respectful volume.

    Super cool old amp.

SOYL would be a pretty bad opener imo. It's a deep cut, no band opens up with a deep cut.

They used to open with Illusions songs before the albums were even out. I totally see your point, but I think with such a minimal discography almost any song is fair game for Guns to open with. To me Shadow wouldn't be amy different than if they decided to open with Pefect Crime or Pretty Tied Up again.

  10. 1. It's So Easy

    2. Mr. Brownstone

    3. Live and Let Die

    4. Double Talkin' Jive

    5. Used to Love Her

    6. Patience

    7. Welcome to the Jungle

    8. Slither

    9. You're Crazy

    10. Slash Solo / Sweet Child O' Mine

    11. November Rain

    12. Knockin On' Heaven's Door

    13. Shadow of Your Love

    14. Don't Cry

    15. You Ain't The First

    16. Estranged

    17. Civil War

    18. Nightrain

    19. Absurd or Hard Skool

    20. Paradise City

Something like that (not necessarily in that order) I think would make for a pretty decent "play it safe for the broadcast" set regardless of how Axl sounds on this run. Nearly all of that he could get away with singing in his baritone voice, and songs like Shadow and Nightrain generally sound pretty passable anyways even on the worst of nights.

I'm sure that is a point. People always go, "Oh, there's so many seats left, they must have lost money.", which really isn't the case. Especially if all the tickets are so overpriced. They don't make as much money, as they wish they would, but still enough to make it worthwhile. And I guess it also depends on how much it actually costs to rent a stadium. If they have good deals, it probably isn't really all that much more expensive than an arena or a smaller stadium. Either way, they know so much more than we do.

Good points. For all we know there's more money to be made selling 25 000 out of 50 000 stadium tickets than selling out an arena that only holds 12 000 in a concert configuration despite the stadium only being "half full" or not sold out or whatever. Still doubles the arena capacity in terms of foot traffic.
