Cool that they're releasing Ritz 91 since it's not only a great show but has a very unusual setlist with Mr Brownstone not being the second song, PC being early in the set and Jungle being the closer.
BTW seeing how he sings fast-paced tunes like Shadow & Reckless Life pretty decently nowadays imo (angry Mickey I call it) I think Axl could do a decent job if they played Perfect Crime now. The angry Mickey sounds better than the normal Mickey

Lean and mean stripped down setlist - something not unlike the 1993 gigs. I think trimming the fat would make for a tighter show if the setlist is reconfigured. Axl could probably nail this every night. Use the high voice sparingly, get Melissa to do more backing vocals, and there you have it.
1. Pretty Tied Up
2. Mr. Brownstone
3. It's So Easy
4. Live and Let Die
5. Bad Obsession
6. The Garden (or Chinese Democracy)
7. Welcome to the Jungle
8. Used to Love Her
9. You're Crazy (Lies)
10. Attitude (or So Fine)
11. Double Talkin' Jive
12. Civil War
13. You Ain't The First (or Absurd)
14. Don't Cry
15. Slash Solo/Sweet Child O' Mine
16. November Rain
17. Patience
18. Nightrain
Encore:
19. Knockin' On Heaven's Door
20. Paradise City
Something like that I think. Maybe have a spot in the middle for a rarity or two.
Jungle would be the only song in the first 10 songs of the set that requires the higher voice. Everything else could be sung baritone with Melissa doing the high harmony if needed (like on the Pretty Tied Up chorus). At the same time, I think it's a set that would still appeal to both die hards and casuals alike.

Yeah I gathered that the de-aging stuff was more flashback related than anything.

Yeah I'd really only consider Perfect Crime, 14 Years, and Bad Apples to be the essential rarities. It's nice to have high quality recordings of those performances.
The other four are covers, all of which we already had in pretty high quality so it doesn't really add much appeal or value to the smaller release versus getting the complete shows. 14 Years, Perfect Crime, and Bad Apples over the entirety of Ritz 1991 and Vegas 1992? Not in my book.
Not that that justifies the overpriced box set, but to say the standalone releases offer more interesting tracks is a bit of a stretch.

No, but not sure I agree with rewriting history. Could/should be an ‘alt’ version.
The original is killer too and my problem with the live orchestral version is that it lessens the impact of the core band’s contribution with two dozen other instruments sharing attention.
They aren't rewriting anything. Both versions are on there:
They're labelled accordingly too. As mentioned previously, the 2022 version was uploaded in video form the day it was released to streaming services.

Haven't caught any videos from this show yet but I watched a couple from Perth and I thought Axl sounded pretty good. Nightrain showed a nice balance of him mixing in that baritone voice in more when he can get away with it, and the high parts seemed more effortless and less "marble mouth" than recent months. The man is certainly giving it his all. Even the band felt more refreshed.

Welcome to the Jungle was my big Live Era mystery.
Many articles cite it as Argentina 1992 and it's even listed that way on Spotify, but that always bugged me because it's clearly not the same version. Re-recorded vocals aside, the cadence of it is different and Slash's licks in the second and third verses aren't a match at all. It was also the subject of much fan debate as I recall - was the opening scream from Paris? Were other bits patched in from different versions? Nobody could ever find a straight answer.
Once the Las Vegas version queued up on my first listen to the box set I definitely had a moment of revelation. There it is! It was cool after all these years to finally have an answer to that and, for all intents and purposes, for it to be a version I hadn't heard before.

Would you say he was looking less bloated and cracking jokes?
Thanks for posting your pictures. I don't really keep up with the show threads anymore for the most part but it looks like you had a blast.

I think they should include this remix.
They've got a few others on that channel as well. I know what I'm listening to all day today.

Yeah they posted the video the day they released the orchestral version to streaming. Probably going back many pages now for the bit of discussion on it.
Edit: I should also add just so there's no confusion - the original video wasn't replaced - both versions are on their channel.

I like to point out the fact that Oasis had their entire recording career in the time it took Axl to get his act together between TSI? and CD. And they were a fractious band, with a lot of infighting, walk outs, personnel changes... and a singer who didn't cut it live in the latter years. They managed to release 7 albums, a bunch of EPs, tour abundantly. And they did press. A lot of it. You knew what was going on.
And look at Liam's comeback since 2017. His career is thriving. Selling out Knebworth, new albums selling well with praise from critics and fans alike, lots of press, and so forth. He also regularly adds deep cuts to his set list and rotates them quite frequently.
All that means is that since the time of Slash, Duff, and Axl reuniting Liam Gallagher has released three studio albums, two EPs, and two live albums.
But hey, we got two songs with 1999 vocals and Walk All Over You added to the set list.

Didn't Jeff Beck just get sick or something? Or am I misremembering?

For Live Era - yes, but on the new deluxe tracks - no. They're all in their unaltered form.

I won't argue. It really does sound like one of these "Voice Aah" or "Choir Voice" settings on a Casio.

All of them?
Completely unaltered save for some trimming between tracks (ie. Slash's bum start on Sweet Child at the Ritz has been omitted).
The original post you quoted was a response to someone mentioning they still like Live Era.

Hope mine comes soon. I ordered it from the GNR site.
I didn't think amazon.com had it yet?
It's been on Amazon since pre-release. I think several users bought it from there as opposed to the GNR site.

I'd like to hear Perfect crime live
I think it was on the alternate set list in 2017. I'd say I have my doubts about Axl pulling it off now, but then again Reckless Life and Shadow are consistently two of the songs he sounds best on so who knows. I'd be up for an honest attempt!

Bad Obsession between the two, but I've always loved Bad Apples. Slash's solo is sublime.

Funny to look at back at some of the "former" rare songs. To think Rocket Queen of all songs was only played 36 times and yet these days it's a staple at every show. Coma used to be ultra rare but these days it's almost more rare that they don't play it. How times have changed.

Wasn't it once labelled "the cutest mistake ever" or something like that? I didn't realize it was the Ritz. That's a shame. Cut that out but left in Drum Solo.

I don't find TWAT as a whole to be anything mind blowing, but as a whole I find the lyrics and vocals are some of the best Axl performed. Add in that badass Buckethead solo and we're off to the races.
A song that's (mostly) built around a singular chord progression like that definitely needs strong hooks and melodies to carry it, and on that front I think it delivers. I woudn't call it an "epic" but that's such a hard word to define anyways. I'd put Coma more in that category because of its many parts and changes. TWAT only really has two shifts away from the Bm - A - E progression that carries the bulk of the song.

I was reading the RollingStone article (November 11th 2022)
Guns N’ Roses‘ ’Use Your Illusion’ Box
Set Is an Image of a Band Refusing to
Give Up its Place in the Jungle
"..guitarist Izzy Stradlin slovenly addresses the crowd after a ragged “My Michelle”: “Fuckin’ three years ago, fuckin’ Appetite came out,” he says. “Fuckin’ no one would give the band fuckin’ shit for notoriety or anything."
The video i watched featured Slash speaking the exact same words after My Michelle (GN'R The Ritz 1991)
Has RollingStone confused Slash with Izzy Stradlin ?
Here is the link:
Here is a snapshot:
It's 100% Slash - definitely an error on their part.
It's funny that both full shows from this release feature quite a chatty Slash - more than I can remember from any other shows during the UYI era.

40 minutes ago, Billy Cundy said:must be weird for Axl, Slash, Izzy and Duff to watch. Looking back to a time when their history wasn’t written yet. They were still pure potential at that point. In hindsight, they lost a big part of their sound when Adler left, but at the time, it must’ve been really energising to play with a monster like matt. Nothing boosts your confidence more than playing with a powerhouse professional like Matt onstage. Knowing he was going to nail every fill, tempo and arrangement… probably pretty exciting after years of playing with ropey ol’ Steven.
This release as a whole has just given me so much more appreciation for Matt. I know his personality is off putting to some, but in terms of sheer musicality you're absolutely right that he's the kind of drummer you want behind you.
I think his playing comes across as a little stiff on the albums themselves, but these live performances (especially the Ritz) highlight what an asset he was to holding it all together. His sense of timing is impeccable and he just has such a natural vibe with Slash and Duff. The jams always flow well and end right when they need to.
I actually like Frank, but listening to these performances really makes me miss Matt. He just makes everything sound so much more cohesive.
