The Youtube video takedown was issued by the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonograph Industry).

In doing some research, this (from their site) sums it up best:

• IFPI’s European office coordinates the industry's advocacy at EU level on the key issues affecting the business environment its members operate in. These include protection of copyright, enforcement, licensing, online regulatory issues and international trade.

It seems Universal Music Group (as well as Sony and Warner Group) have actively started taking action towards what they see as Youtube's unfair use/breach of digital licensing, with no recompense to the artist. I looked for Shadow of Your Love on YouTube and couldn't find anything other than official GN'R videos or old Hollywood Rose/live videos/guitar covers.

Having read more into it, I can appreciate that labels are trying to monetise digital music (through paid sunscription accounts like Spotify/Tidal etc) to replace losses in physical sales. YouTube goes against that, allowing albums/singles to be uploaded in full with little or no royalties being paid to artists (I know, i know; most of us here listen on there and then buy it.. just stating their perspective).

These are key points from the IFPI's 2018 Music Consumer Insight report:

• User upload services continue to dominate consumption: Nearly half of all time spent listening to on-demand music is on YouTube.

• Copyright infringement remains a significant issue: More than one-third (38%) of consumers obtain music through infringing methods – with stream ripping the dominant method (32% of consumers).

This is a statement from IFPI's CEO summarizing that report:

"However, this report also shows the challenges the music community continues to face – both in the form of the evolving threat of digital copyright infringement as well as in the failure to achieve fair compensation from some user-upload services. Policymakers around the globe have been scrutinising these issues and increasingly acting to address them."

You can see where this is going. 

My objection of course, is when this affects an upload like mine, which I consider to fall under fair usage (which my email from YouTube does state I can appeal on this basis, but that I risk being prosecuted  lol).

I uploaded a video of a GN'R Turntable which played 1m 18s of a song, with me turning the volume up a few times whilst filming. Hardly something that would stop someone purchasing Shadow of Your Love and watch my video instead. I would have thought the opposite would be more true, but there you go.

Apologies for the long post. Like @RussTCB said I will soon upload a new video with something that shouldn't have the IFPI on my case..

It took me hours as I'm on crutches at the moment, but after staring at the box for ages I went  for it and set it up. I just played the RSD Shadow of Your Love on it and it sounds amazing! Uploaded my 2nd video in 8 yrs to YouTube (lol), so I could share it on here 🤘

 

Unreal!! I've received a takedown notice and a strike from YouTube regarding my video showing the GN'R Turntable, as I played 1m 18s of the Shadow of Your Love single!! 

Wtf is that?! Seriously. I am looking into their copyright and fair usage policy (out of principle), as it's a complete joke.

Just wanted everyone to know I didn't remove the video, YouTube did.

both of my boxes were opened - i'm assuming customs maybe looked in them both...

anyone that got the turntable - did it just have the cord, black pad, and instruction manual sitting on top when you opened the box? that box was not even re-taped when i received it so i want to make sure nothing is missing. the plastic turntable lid is on top and it is not damaged so i'll assume any other fragile parts are ok at this time.

Totally agree with the praise for both @troccoli and @RussTCB - They're the best! 

Mine was exactly the same in terms of cord, black pad and instruction manual.

There should also be the counterweight in the bottom (under the turntable) in a separate bag, and a white box with the adapter. If you have all this, we got the same contents 😉

The black pad is of fairly poor quality (though the only thing in the whole box that was, so can't complain).

I will either use no mat, which with an acrylic plinth sounds great, or use one of my own felt mats. Will have to see what works best.

Thanks man. It really does sound awesome with the acrylic platter! I had my back to the speakers as well, but in the room the turntable is crystal clear. It has good bass, without it overpowering the mix. I like to be able to hear the vocals at the front (as you would live), and this does that.

I already had a pretty good (but old) Thorens turntable, so I was really hoping it wouldn't be a downgrade, but I couldn't be happier with it. 

Setup is fairly straight forward, but if you need any help just let me know.

I was lucky as the Phono leads are quite short, but my amp is close to where I have my turntable. You should be fine too, as you're using a preamp, so you can position it within reach of the leads, and get the necessary length phono leads to reach from pre amp to your amplifier 👍

I know it is my friend. I made a conscious effort to not mention it on here until now, but It's true.

My friend and I were outside the stadium long after the crowds had gone, both looking for the Jack the Ripper shirt, and we were going to one stall after another as they all closed. All they had were size small, and I was tempted on more than one occasion to buy the litho instead..but didn't 😢

I feel your pain. Had countless opportunities to buy London night 1, but was looking everywhere for the shirt in my size. That litho didn't even sell out as they still had it outside when they were packing up.

My friend went to night 2 and I gave him money to buy me a London 2 shirt, if not a litho. He got the shirt. In hindsight I'm devastated lol.

Now I'm stuck with the ugly (though It's grown on me) Download litho, and the awesome Gothenburg one 😂😭

Wow, that's awesome Russ! So great of them to do that, I respect company's that show real initiative and great customer service. They could easily have said no, and anyone would just say 'well, it was worth a try', but they did a noble thing.

I fear if I try, they may not want to make a habit of it, but what have I got to lose, right?

One of my items is with UK customs, and one has left customs and on its way to me! Not sure which of the L&L box set or Turntable are on their way first.

Can't wait! Shame I didn't get the 20% discount, but still really happy with the deal I got as the Turntable swayed it for me. For anyone in the US/Canada that is able to purchase this, I wouldn't hesitate at this price.

Thanks to troccoli one of my parcels has left San Francisco but one is a stage behind on the tracking. Wonder which item I receive first? I feel sorry for them, travelling all this way on their own lol. 

I've just had knee surgery so I really can't wait for them to arrive and cheer me up.

It's just before 9am in my time zone, so I'm anxiously awaiting the knock on the door!

I just checked and it was the L&L set, so I entered the tracking for the turntable seperately and that says the same time/date, so I think It's both!

WAIT! I checked the tracking number through the FedEx site and it shows as being delivered today by 10:30am!!! I don't have to leave for the airport until after that, so I'll at least get to make sure it arrives safely. Of course, I'll then be gone for two days, but I can wait til Friday to really dig into it!

Still no clue on when the turntable is shipping, but I'm good on that for now anyway.

Now I'm confused. It might actually be the turntable that's out for delivery today. I'll just let you know in a few hours once something shows up

Hope you get them today! But how annoying you're going to be away. I have to have a knee operation around Xmas, so I can't wait to have this to look forward to while I'm stuck at home for weeks.

How did you get the FedEx tracking info? Just using the same codes for Canada Post? They're all I have. Thanks for the updates, I'm all over the place with the different time zone over here, so it really helps lol.

EDIT - I just checked on FedEx and it's due at 10:30am today.. It's 13:37pm here, I need to Google what time it is there and let troccoli know! 😲

The shipping of our items could have been part of the NITL Tour - the name would be apt.

Same here. Ordered 11/25 and not moved. Is it due to Canada Post though? As it seems they are yet to receive the items from the store? My tracking info shows the seller has created a shipping sticker, but Canada Post says there will be further updates once they receive the items.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought it must have been him (or a producer/technician who sounds a lot like him lol). There were just suggestions that Axl wasn't there, earlier in the thread, so thought i'd mention it.

Am I right in thinking you've seen/have footage of the rehearsal?

Is it just me, or does the voice a few seconds in to the CD rehearsal track sound like Axl?

Saying "Alright, here we go now"?

I keep listening to it, and it sounds like his accent and deep speaking tone. Doesn't sound like Tommy or Ron.
