Perhaps Axl was happy with half or more of CD2 as it was before Slash and Duff rejoined, so he gave them the songs that still needed work, or ones he felt they would fit best.

Every chance he just doesn't like some songs anymore, or prefers them as they are for release on a CD box or to be kept back as a nest egg for his TB fam when he's gone.

None of us are in the camp so we don't know

  2. If The World had been mentioned previously and leaked in Summer before album released. Shackler's Revenge only became known as a title when it appeared on the tracklist for Rock Band 2 and then shortly after that it leaked but until then it had never been heard of before. This I Love had been talked about for years.

Scraped was literally the only track on the album where the title hadn't been mentioned before and didn't leak prior to release (apart from the actual leak of the album a week or two before release). Although it's previous title Lies They Tell had been mentioned prior.

I don't think the remix he was referring to is the one that leaked years ago with Bumblefoot on it. Because that track has a similar intro, and no new vocals that I know of compared to the 1999 single.

"OMG2" was listed as a possible contender for CD2, this was in 2008. I believe OMG2 to be the remix, and not the reworked version that leaked.

    Who knows though.

I think that was just a scratch track that Bumble contributed his ideas too. It may have changed after receiving BBFs additions.

Do you recall if the Zodiac info he had mentioned vocals on that track at the time?

Just a description of the music that matches what we heard in the 2019 leak. Ironically, Leeds was sp1at's source for that info and he spoke to Zutaut extensively for his 2005 article about CD... wonder how Leeds got to hear Zodiac ;)

Who is this sp1at guy? I've seen several references to newgnr songs and sp1at but have no idea who or how credible he is

He's had a track on some inside info since the the pre-CD days. On his old websites he spoke to people and got info about songs like Zodiac, info that we later learned with the leaks in 2019 was accurate.

Infact one of the people he spoke to was Jeff Leeds, the writer of the 05 NYT article about CD. He now works for Universal in some job to do with Peacock.

So he's not totally uninformed and has had accurate sources in the past. That all said he's been very vague lately.

Again, I get the scepticism, people get jaded. But to be fair, there were no promises of imminent release prior to cd, it was more like "hopefully soon" from people like 4tus etc. The only broken promise was that Axl's December 06 tentative date for March 07. Anyway, Slash only promised a single (where is it??) and the box set. Yep, they're taking their time, and it's tiring. Worse thing is Axl's going downhill vocally and the tours are still the same, it's basically just variations of NITL. They do act as if they're 30 and the world is holding breath...

What are you talking about. CD's release was promised loads of times.

Song is in mono in right channel with Ron's guitar take in the left or maybe other way round I forget.

He mentioned having a version of Atlas on his laptop that he had done a solo for once in some youtube interview thing. So we know he was doing guitar stuff on these older songs. It's probably a good guess that that mono channel of silkworms was from way before Ron being in the band as the OMG one clearly was.

If we ever hear a mono version of Atlas leak or any other song it would strongly indicate where it may have come from. If I remember right his email was hacked? A lot of years ago, I could be wrong but I had that version of Silkworms in 2013 so it must of happened before that

The Bumble version of Atlas is out there FYI. Some have it.

I'd love to think so but if they had anything else of that quality I'd assume they would have thrown it into the box set. The Ritz film looks amazing though, far better than digital. It would be awesome to see this in a cinema. I can't wait for the full show.

Why assume they'd release it. Releasing things isn't something they have a track record of doing.

This was the most exciting thing on GNR world, don't let it die :nervous::lol:

I searched on Spotify after a long time and Thyme/The General aren't working anymore (USA) still nothing for Se7en, Perhaps, Oklahoma, Zodiac, realdoll.com...

Cuban Sk... brings up Absurd and GNR first instead of actual Cuban stuff:lol:, sometimes I wanna give up and then I see this nonsense...

State of Grace, Atlas, Soul Monster, The General, Thyme still give me results in the UK. Perhaps doesn't anymore but can see how it's easy for other results to start taking precedence on that term, it's a common word and just a one word search term. Still get GN'R results for Perhaps on a Sweden VPN but no longer anything for Zodiac or Se7ven.

I think this spotify thing might be not related just to the actual geo-position but to the account used as well.

I'm italian and I access Spotify through an italian FB account. I'm currently in the UK and I've been here since this Spotify-GNR thing started. I casually searched some of the songs here in the UK with my usual italian Spotify account, but I never got any results. I searched again now, after seeing some Italian users mentioning they started to get results, and I'm finally getting stuff.

    Specifically:

    - atlas sh gives me GNR as the first result in "Artist" plus a GNR playlist, GNR radio and two 80's rock playlist (one of them using GNR as the cover image). If i type any other letters after "sh", no more GNR.

I just tried tried all the other songs mentioned in the first page of this thread, but nothing else came up for me.

It's been tested with VPN + visiting open.spotify.com in incognito tabs as a not signed in user. GN'R turning up in the search results for these terms isn't related to the currently signed in user.

  11. Frank has never spoken about his experience working with the CD material as much as Ron did but there's a half decent chance it was similar. Basically, here's all the songs, record your interpretations and parts for all of these and we'll pick and choose between what you've provided and what was there before.

It's why I'd hazard a guess he's taken a pass at almost all the songs in the vault.

The question for me is…have actual songs been submitted to Spotify (or any associated distribution platforms), or is it just the metadata/song information that’s been handed over?

If actual songs have been submitted, I really can’t see us having to wait for next year for the tracks to be officially released. And, even if it’s just metadata that’s been handed over, why so far in advance if the plan is to release them next year.

I still think we’re looking at new songs (dare I say an album?) before the end of 2022.

If the songs have been submitted I think that means the plan is OR WAS to have something out before the end of 2022. It's GN'R though... "plans change"... keep hope low and just be pleasantly surprised if something does happen.

Thank God he's out of GNR. What the heck was Axl thinking bring this guy into GNR???

That the dude was unreal at playing guitar and writing guitar parts. Considering that at the time Axl also had this vision about the band's sound changing and he didn't think some of Robin's solo contributions were good enough, it made a lot of sense to bring in someone who could do the things Buckethead could do.

How weird. I’m in the UK too and Ghost doesn’t come up. Yet searching for Atlas Shrugged etc still brings up G n’ R. I do wonder what would happen if we all agreed on a made up song title and search for it several times a day.

I think nothing happens. Don't think it's (strongly) driven by that. Would require a much large scale of people doing it

There has to be metadata placed somewhere. And is not coming from probably 23 users around the whole world that have Thyme in their local Spotify playlists.

Yeah that's what I don't get. I don't get why these search terms have become associated with GN'R in Spotify's system. I really really doubt it's user searches. It could be scraped from various web sources but again... why only now? I can't think of a good answer for that at all.

I have a rule of thumb for lots of things in life, the simplest explanation is usually (but not always) the correct one. It makes the most sense if information for these tracks has been entered into Spotify's system or another music industry system that they integrate with. That doesn't mean the music is necessarily uploaded to Spotify's system and is primed for release, just means that at a minimum somewhere the basic information about these tracks has. That information has been ingested into their database and associatiosn between those terms and GN'R has been made.

That is a simpler explanation than trying to figure out how their search results have been influenced by user sessions and scraping websites, and why it's only happening now.
