    To "The Chairman",

Thank you for everything you gave us. If it wasn't you, those "official" releases and what's coming, wouldn't had happen.

It would be funnier if we all just said who The Chairman was.

Also the physical releases of the SINGLE shipping in February and June aren't a release. This digital and streaming rollout with banner ads on social media and billboards in Time Square is the release. The pre-order sales and shipment of a physical product is for hardcore fans. Only hardcore fans are buying a single on CD, 7" or Casette in 2021 - it's more like niche merch for fans than a release of music. The release of music is what's happening right now. Those products not shipping until February & June means nothing.

If an album were to launch in December, you won't be holding a CD until a few weeks later and a vinyl until a few months later. That's how things work for almost all artists these days. Those products end up in the hands of people who want them once the release is over.

Biggest clue for any other song they may release and to be honest the only clue i would trust is if something crops up on a set list as an alt

Which is sort of why I could see something releasing in December. No tour dates were ever planned for then - therefore no need to include it on a setlist as an alt or ever soundcheck it on this leg of the tour. Only songs on the setlist that were new are the ones they released on this leg.

They clearly like to release with little to no notice, no reason they couldn't do that again later this year. Difference is, with no setlists and soundchecks we have no way to see it coming at all.

Just saw this under YouTube comments, one person has written that according to Slash the new album will be out in December.

I guess its just someone writing bullshit without any source

    No interview with Slash recently?

Hope he will talk about GNR also when he get interviewed for new Conspirator record

    It was on this video?

  4. I'm sure it's fun when you're there live. The wall of noise from all the music and the energy of being at a live show paper over weak performances and you can still have a fun time.

Glad to see them try it and to my ears he sounded passable by current standards on the first verse and chorus and then it got really tough for him - which makes sense, the way the vocals are done on the studio version it sounds like it would be tough for Axl to sing live at any point in his life.

THIS BAND, LABEL AND MANAGEMENT ARE A JOKE IN TERMS OF BUSINESS.

    dont expect anything from them.

This is one of the highest grossing tours of all time.

This management (that we all have rightful reasons to criticise) are also the ones that oversaw a Live DVD, a reunion, an AFD rerelease with unheard material, and two new songs being released in the past two months. Is this stellar? No. Is it absolute dogshit like some fans online try to make it out to be? No.

Not every artist has Metallica tier management and promotion. It's sad but true.

  6. Correct, none of us have any inside info. All we have is the evidence and information that is out there to make educated guesses based on. The educated guess is there are probably more songs with vocals that exist in Axl's bunker.

Just an educated guess though, not presenting that as fact like Pele keeps trying to do.

  7. I think it's silly to fixate on a handful of discs that Tom Zutaut had for review during his brief return as AR man in 2001. The project continued after that point with various vocal recording sessions confirmed between 02-07. Those Village discs are a snapshot in time of where recording was at that point and it probably isn't the totality of everything around that time either - just look at the serial numbers on the discs.

After that point it all depends on how reliable you think Fortus is, although we at least know he did step into a studio post 2016 to do that cartoon song so it's not like it's impossible for him to step into a recording booth.

  8. Sorry

    Shacklers Revenge

    Better

Those are three that we know for absolute certain 1) have vocals - becasue we heard them 2) and were recorded after 00. Another song we've actually heard that probably has later vocals is Scraped. There were also late overdubs on CD songs that had "99 vocals". These are the things we actually know.

See no reason to assume other vocals weren't done over the years for songs we haven't heard yet. For example: we know The General has vocals - we heard the phone recording of it.

Pele writing definitive lists like this is just dumb. It's all rooted in pessimism despite there being ample evidence to suggest there have been plenty of vocals recorded after 1999.

The guy on the forum categorically stated he didn't hear vocals on Cuban Skies.

We know Scraped/General/TIL remix/Better/General vocals were recorded later than the Village Sessions - I've never said otherwise.

You say "it seems really really stupid to assume that between 01-Today that he barely recorded any vocals for any songs" and list backing vocals and a cartoon song written by somebody else as evidence.

We are talking 21 years here.  Of course he has done some sporadic recording.

"Why he chooses to use vocals takes from the 98-01 period? No idea, he's the artist maybe he's happy with them and doesn't feel they need redone."

Stockholm Syndrome again.  Are you that utterly gullible to believe he has vocals for Soulmonster, Seven, Zodiac, D-Tune, Leave Me Alone, Quick Song, Berlin, Cuban Skies, PRL, Monstrosirty, The Rebel etc etc.

Serious question - how many years go by of not hearing any of these (whilst maybe hearing reworked Atlas/reworked Perhaps etc) will you start to realize they don't exist?

I presented ample evidence of him being in the studio at various points over the past 20 years where we know he recorded stuff. We have even heard some of that work. It seems fairly apparent he has tracked vocals at various points over the years, on what - ultimately we don't know.

If we're just making guesses based off the information we have though it seems likelier that he has recorded vocals for songs we haven't heard rather than him doing nothing. It's not "stockholm syndrome" - a term you are using incorrectly - it's basic deduction based off what we actually know, not what you think you know.

We haven't heard this shit because it hasn't leaked. It seems quite clear that by mid 00s the list of the songs for the album had narrowed down and surprise surpise - those are the songs that leaked the most and were on the final album. They've clearly run a tighter ship on leaks of songs and information since that mid 00 period.

Stop being so negative all the time.

This thread is for discussing Hard Skool.

Discussions relating to other material can be discussed elsewhere.

    Thanks!

Sorry! Just saw this after my last reply.

    You see, this is wrong.

The guy who claims he heard Cuban Skies only heard an instrumental.  He said so in the post.  He said Axl said it was about cigars buy he only heard instrumental.

Just like Oklahoma.  Axl might say it was about the bombing, and he may have a verse or two, but it's an instrumental.  To this day. (IMO)

Stop saying "Axl said himself".  Axl said himself Chinese was going to be a trilogy of releases about 20 years ago.  About 15 years ago, that had completely been abandoned, the songwriting had completely finished and they cobbled together what they had for Chinese, leaving about 4-5 which we are starting to get now.

    • The guy on that forum who claims he heard Cuban Skies never said one way or another whether it was an instrumental or had vocals.
    • Axl himself discussed the day he recorded some vocals for Soulmonster - it seems sensible to guess that has complete vocals but who knows, maybe it doesn't.
    • We also know The General has full vocals as we heard that cell phone clip.
    • We heard the state Better was in circa 2001 on the Village leaks and later heard it with vocals that sounded more like he did performing live in 2006
    • We have Shackler's Revenge with vocals and we know that in 2000 that was in a state of just being a sketch of an idea
    • We have Sorry with vocals and we know in 2000 that was instrumental
    • We also have Scraped, where all info on that is kind of unknown time wise
    • We also have all the overdubs that were added to the CD songs that weren't on the earlier leaks we now have
    • He recorded parts on Bach's record in 2007
    • We have members on the record as late as 2014 saying Axl was in the studio recording vocals
    • We know he recorded vocals for that Loony Tunes song at some point post reunion
    • People on the record have said he had a big mental block in to overcome in that 97-01 period in terms of singing and so he may have only sung in the studio infrequently. Post 01-02, he's done a bunch of live shows and he did more in 06/07, something which probably got him over the anxiety he felt about singing meaning he may have been more frequently laying down vocals in the studio after the 01/02 tour.

Taking all of that into account... it seems really really stupid to assume that between 01-Today that he barely recorded any vocals for any songs. All signs point to him doing it loads of times.

Why he chooses to use vocals takes from the 98-01 period? No idea, he's the artist maybe he's happy with them and doesn't feel they need redone.

Stop spreading your nonsense. You know nothing exclusive, have no insider information and all your guesses fly in the face of all the above evidence.

I like Hard Skool, im happy it has been oficially released. Listening to Slash in a new GNR tune is awesome! I have no beef with Axl releasing the best songs from the CD era with Slash and Duff as they bring the GNR sound I love.  I would like to forget the 2001-2014 period really, it mostly sucked! I hope they release CD tracks live with Slash and Duff (Sorry, Madagascar, TWAT, CD, Better). After this a proper new record would be awesome but im not sure it will happen. Oh and Absurd is ok, I was baffled as to why they released it first but whatever.  Keep the tracks coming with 99 Axl vocals or not!

The communication and trickles of information during that 97-08 period were more substantial than what happens now.

Nowadays it's just silence - they barely speak at all and they clearly run a tighter ship because no one goes flapping their gums about what they're up to.

I'd assume the middle section is probably shortened and maybe one of the last choruses left off? Radio is weird. Decisions like that get made, but then they still play the long ass Don't Fear the Reaper jam and Stairway haha.

Wrong my friend. It's chopped up across the whole length of the song. Intro, verse, after chorus guitar licks. All cut down. Mix sounds different too.

  13. There is nothing to indicate anything else is on the launchpad. Prior to the tour we knew that Hard Skool was on 2019 setlists and had heard it rehearsed in 2020, so we went into this tour expecting something. Absurd was a pleasant surprise and after that we had heard them still soundchecking Hard Skool so we kept anticipating.

We got all that now, they've still said very little. Until the situation changes I'm not expecting anything more. Most likely at the moment would be a redone version of Oh My God - was on 2018 setlists and the lyrics for it are now on the screen during YCBM for some reason.

For the ones complaining, you can probably expect more of the same if/when a new album comes around.

The band have publicly said nothing about any of these songs and there are currently no tour dates immediately coming up for this to promote. From a marketing point of view it is really weird that this has been released when it has. You'd expect a press release or a band member to say something but nope.

It's not about promoting the single - singles promote things. What the hell is this promoting?

  15. Just now, RussTCB said:

Wasn't Absurd released at midnight eastern?

And my point was regarding promotion. The song was supposed to be tomorrow, not today. So the promotion will start tomorrow.

Absurd was held back in all regions until midnight EST. He dropped the bombshell of it coming during the gig. No one had a clue it was going to come that quick after it was performed at the last show.
