You’re probably not well informed but Slash with SMKC have outsell arenas with a capacity of 14-15 thousand here in Europe. I don’t know how well his current tour is attended but he has pulled arena crowds regularly outside of the US

Im so sorry. I’m obviously the most misinformed person on this site. I’ll just be on my way! Carry on! It’s AWESOME that slash (playing no gnr songs) can pull in 15k people a night.

I don't know about that. Last time he came to the UK he did 3 or 4 theatre sized venues in different cities.....this time nearly all Arenas, which apparently didn't sell too well.

Theatres is his level these days I think.

As for setlists.....well, if people go expecting GNR songs, that's on them really. He hasn't done more than one for a couple of tours, and if they cared enough they could easily find that out before they buy a ticket. It's a SMKC show, and, rightly, that's what the set is.

Slash without GNR pulls in between 1000-3000 a night as an average depending on the size of the market. He also gets a smaller guarantee than most people think and takes the door deal. His VIP programs do well for ancillary income. Anyone who thinks slash can pull an arena crowd solo is completely delusional. The small arenas/amps he plays aren’t expensive shows and have a super low break even point for the promoter/venue so if the deal makes sense, he’ll be booked there.

Duff gets booked at 500-1000 type clubs.

    Your job sounds fucking tedious.

It’s horrendous and not for the weak. It fits my personality of not wanting a desk job and doing the same thing day after day. However I haven’t had a free Thu/Fri/Sat in like 25+ years, Covid shut downs withstanding. When you add in past midnight phone calls and shitty pay, I definitely questioned my life choices about 10yrs in and stuck with it🤣

Cowritten by Myles and Michael Baskette (who also produced it) too. The production is miles ahead of The General and Perhaps.

@IzzysMissy Did you talk to your co-workers about the song? What do they think? Can I send you my song?

Well.. the OPINIONS after the song was played were mostly negative. The FOH Engineer asked immediately if this was what was released because it sounded “unfinished”, and those who are more in tune with audio happenings ripped the mix apart.

This led to an interesting conversation about how fans in general want to think the best of their fave artists and therefore are more comfortable to “accept” lesser quality output. There are quite a few old schoolers here, OG gnr fans who have gone through ALL the motions of being a fan of this band, and many of us have gone to NITL shows together over the past 7 years..

There was 100% agreement that if this was a new band submission our company would never book this band based on this song (and there was also general acknowledgment that Gnr is a bad example of that as Axls voice is so distinctive on any output) -

My particular sample was tiny of course, 47 people aged 20 through 60 - but none of these people like it. About a dozen said “that last release was better” and one of the interns got excited at the mention of GNR at the start (“omg my mom used to love them” which warranted the smart ass response from the head of sponsorship of “but did she have to kill them” which to no one’s shock went COMPLETELY over her head🤣

THATS NOT TO SAY THAT THOSE WHO LIKE THE SONG SHOULDNT. IF YOU LIKE THIS SONG AND WHATEVER ELSE COMES OUT GOOD FOR YOU, PLEASE ENJOY!!!

Nice! Our biggest - 'non opening for someone with a crowd' - is about 150. we did get a song with a record label and they interviewed us and used the tagline ' we dont write songs to please or for you to like', they said we were the only band they'd ever worked with who said that so they were sending it to all their contacts

Yeah it you get a pit going then it's been a great gig.

Rooms with 250 and under are the best and most raw. All independent owned which is GREAT. Pulling 150 people as a headliner is friggin solid, good for you. I once worked a show with 9 or 10 bands on a bill and had tally the patrons to figure out the percentages for payment… always fun nights out. Amen about the pit, but never again… I’m too old. DM a link to your band! Doesn’t hurt to have it out!

You interested in British political punk rock that blends the dead kennedys, the clash, the pistols a nirvana? Not that we give a fuck if you like us.

The most punk thing about being punk is not givin a fuck about opinions, right 🤣

my current company actually has major roots in punk and hardcore- we book bands into rooms of 500-1000 in that genre here in the States. This fan base is my FAVE to deal with, no drama, no complaints. Just music and pit life.

we are currently streaming Shane MacGowans funeral pre get-together.

knowing the difference between opinions and facts is a great skill to have in life. Something you seem to lack. @janrichmond is never shy when it comes to expressing her opinions, but she also never tried to pass her opinion as fact which makes her not annoying.

You seem very… triggered.. in this thread. I read a few of your other responses to people who don’t like this track, no one is spitting facts just opinions. Including myself.. anyway, if you’re that triggered by negative comments about the stuff gnr is releasing maybe getting off social media for the day would be good for you!

it’s just internet strangers talking about rich rockstars, none of this needs to be so emotional. I truly do hope you have a lovely rest of the day though.

again with the team meetings and tales of your wondrful career how impressive. Look... it's not about you, I'm not trying to be a dick here, just trying to explain to you that your opinion is just that, your opinion and nothing more. You do your thing, but it's just subjective shit we're talking about here.

your extensive personal experience in "the biz" doesn't make you less wrong, that's just a fact. I mean no offense.

Not taking it as an offense.. opinions are opinions afterall. Good chat! Have a great day.

@Rovim also i wanted to say that i only provide the inner workings of stuff i know, work wise that is. In the past people have been curious about how things work but honestly, I dont care one way or another. But I’ll certainly stop sharing. Certainly didn’t mean to offend either.

you said something silly....again cause you don't seem to understand that there is no person in the world that is qualified or able to decide objectively on which are the best Gn'R tunes. Hype is not relevant. Music is just expression of emotion, like art.

for example, Rolling Stone magazine was of the opinion that Led Zeppelin was shit at first. Many people disagree. It doesn't mean anything cause the listener and how he perceives the music is also a factor which makes music subjective.

believe it or not, your opinion is just your opinion.

I’ll tell ya what - silly or not - I’ll be in a team meeting with 40+ people who I work with. We all love gnr, work in the music biz, and promote/book/see THOUSANDS of shows a year collectively. We also receive THOUSANDS of band submissions a year of artists trying yj break in.

you may say that’s a small sample, or too specific, or whatever, but that’s a room of 40+ people whose literal job is to promote music. Would you care for the feedback/opinions on this track? We did it for perhaps via Zoom call and I’d say it was like 40/60 of “it’s an ok song” vs “I’ll pass” but a 100% agreement that if this was the submitted work in order to get on a bill, we’d never book that artist. But gnr would get away with it. I mean it’s comical. And no one liked the other songs that were released. Also opinions, but to me that is subjective.

anyway, if you like it and others do as well that’s GREAT. If you want to spend money on it that’s your business. I just think it’s absolutely hysterical that this is the best that gnr could do.. a copy/paste job over a 20+yr project? Meh, good for you I guess.

I agree, except that I find it slightly better than Monsters. I benefit from not really expecting much. I didn't expect it to be fantastic, I never listened to evader's version. It's good, not fantastic and not terrible. Good. It could easily have replaced a few of the weakest songs on CD. I also don't listen to it on some fancy system so I don't notice anything wrong with how it is mixed or mastered.

So in the start of that sentence you seems to accept that personal preferences in music is highly subjective and that whatever we like is all valid, but then in the second half you still feel like shitting on people who think this is one of GN'R's best songs. Classic.

With all the hype this song had, lol, delusional is the perfect word to describe the top 5 reactions, imo of course. For the record, I think/feel that Perhaps is easily the best if their most recent releases. There I said something nice.

  11. I listened to it again on YouTube (prior to reading the.. interesting commentary) and I’m laughing pretty hard at some of the “this is GNRs top 5” and such feedback. No it isn’t the worst song ever released however it’s pretty subpar in terms of production which takes a lot away (imo).

we all know that opinions are like assholes and we’ve all got one, but it’s pretty delusional to call this a top 5 of anything. The layers of pasting everything to form one song release is amateur at best. I expect more from gnr releases, which is why I didn’t spend money on this.

if you like it more power to you of course, but in reality, gnr and their management deserve the heat they get from this.

People posted photos of the physical vinyl of Perhaps too - looks pixelated and low quality. Why they do this? Because they don’t care. Period.

Now, if time is money, I have spent a lot of time on GN'R in the last 8 years and maybe I should feel a bit foolish for that (and for getting to a point of knowing the most obscure facts about them). But I see it basically as a form of harmless and cheap entertainment or a guilty pleasure kind of similar to being addicted to a soap opera. And I feel that if/when it stops being that, I'll just check out completely (as shitposting is not entertaining for me at all).

GNR is a fantastic soap opera in my opinion… I mean, we don’t have baby swaps, a dead twin coming back to life, a weather machine, miraculous cures and so forth in GNR land but we have… well we have this forum 🤣

I can’t speak for the European tour as those dates stayed the same, but the North American tour had refunds offered. I don’t think they can legally not offer refunds in the event of a postponement.

Refunds are a contractural issue. And ALWAYS offered via Ticketmaster if a show gets cancelled OR postponed. Pre Covid it was 60 days after the announcement of a cancellation and/or 60 days after a new date is announced. Post covid I think these are down to 30 days.

That's one show, and a handful of others. The remainder of those shows sold out or sold very well.

To say AC/DC fans don't want to hear it is a stretch. Yes, 100% they want Brian on stage and Phil Rudd. But in their absence if they cannot perform, the fans are pretty happy with Axl in 2016 after they hearing him and after he brought back deep cuts and they were happy with Rudd's replacement in California.

If AC/DC went out on the road with Axl while Brian was capable of singing then almost no AC/DC fan would want to support them... But AC/DC would still sell a lot of tickets regardless. It's a different situation when the singer has to leave the band because he can't physically do it, and in that instance getting a top star to cover is more than acceptable.

Hoping that Brian gets his voice a bit more together and gives a decent show when they hit the road, so ACDC  can go out with a proper roar!

NGL - I went to Axl/DC in nyc at MSG.. it was, and remains, one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. The few refunds that happened saw those seats sell out immediately after Axl was announced and the stand by line was easily 300+ people when we walked in.

Not sure about other markets but nyc was sold out as fuck. He sounded great too, and every last one of us walked out with very positive opinions.
