  2. Here's the thing. There are analog sounds and digital sounds.analog can be captured using a microphone.digital, line in is fine.

the keyboard, unless it is an analog synth, does not make a sound like a piano does,it has to be plugged into something.

So,this is achieved by triggering a sample.

Therefore, there is no acoustic property involved on the part of the person playing.

So, what is the difference between using a keyboard and playing the track over the PA?

  3. The whole of CD is a bit like the soundtrack to a remake of Mutiny on the Bounty.

Madagascar is gagging for a video based on Castaway where a bearded Axl is marooned on an island and builds a raft and paddles to NYC past the statue liberty then helicopters pick him up out of the sea and he flies into do a show at Giants Stadium.

One point on Madagascar I have not seen mentioned.I'm not sure it's valid, but think a moment.Yes, it clearly speaks of desperation, isolation, and despair-no man is an island and all. But, that's also where Darwin cam up with the theory of evolution.Anyone think this may be there in the lyrics a bit also?

  4. Album of the year, agreed.Guys, thing is this.Shooter is not Waylon. Most children of legends live their whole lives trying to measure up.So if you have not heard Black Ribbons, you need to.He's not trying to do a tribute to his dad. He's made a classic rock album. On par with the best Floyd,Zeppelin, and Sabbath.Sounds a lot like them, with a bit of country, some punk aggression,a little soul.Plus, the story is great,Stephen King does a brilliant job.I admit I'm biased as an anti-globalist activist, but I've listened to the album at least once a day since I got it.It's not wearing thin,I find something new with every listen.Go check it out, that's my word for the day.

    Love is the only truth

    Everything else is illusion.

    peace.

  5. if he had a chainsaw attached to his arm, it might be similar to this

    armyofbrazil.jpg

He is looking like a demon slayer these days.

I like the production of CD, it makes it different to AFD, UYI plus it opens up possibilities of it being more epic, this idea that pro tools are bad no matter what is a bit unlikely, it must have it's advantages, I know GNR were like the saviours of raw rock n roll, and purists want it to be that more natural sound, but its not like other bands like Stones/Zepp never tried to be futuristic, its just now it sounds classic, same with CD

Hendrix and Zeppelin would have made albums like CD if they were around in this era. Raw rock n roll has been done to death. There's no future there and Axl knows it.

Hendrix recorded so much material it is absolutely sick, and you are correct he would have loved the digital playground.Remember,Axis was recorded on 4 tracks.Imagine what he would be able to achieve now.Zeppelin, same deal.

I think the characterization raw is inaccurate.Achilles Last Stand has 10 guitars going at one point.Page did all he could with what he had.Sit Jimmy or Jimi in a room, just some guitars and a good pro modern set-up,they would have done something on par with CD production wise, guaranteed.

The only difference is analog vs. digital. There is a difference.I've recorded material both ways, and I swear there is something missing with digital. It's AIR.The sound of the room. You can use all the plug-ins you want, there is not a way to make a digital signal sound like that. But,the problem is,since there are only a handful of us that still use turntables,it doesn't matter,Record on the sweetest analog set-up on earth, digitize and compress to mp3,may as well have used digital to begin with.

  6. I'm not referring to you I'm referring to the fag who said I wanted an American Idol hack. The fact of the matter is Corrigan's voice is very distinct and does not work for a song like this.

I am homosexual because you disagree with me? how fucking childish. My point was absurd. I didn't place those words in your mouth. With your apparent homophobia and complete inability to read a post in full before sending off some little post that is supposed to belittle and humiliate rather than actualize respond to a valid point, I wasting time.

Your ignorance is astounding. I have several gay and lesbian friends and who they sleep with is not a part of our friendship. But people like you that use anti-homosexuals slurs regularly as generic insults really do have a great tendency towards BEING gay.Pot calls the kettle black. What next, are you going to use some racist type of attack? no, that is not acceptable to society now. calling people fags or saying something you find lame is gay creates a subconscious connection between the word and it's actual meaning.

The point was dummy that music is a passion. When you composeta song it is very personal and sacred.bringing in a singer with a better voice technically would suck the life out of them.Is that clear enough asshole?

    >overreacting

    A fag a cigarette, btw

nice try, but you are being disingenous.Granted that is a slang term in England, but when people insult you, they are not calling you a smoke, you know this.cheap cop-out attempt to avoid blowback.still no response to the point either.

Regardless, don't be trollin' up this thread with arguments. Just drop it, please.

You started the argument and derailed the thread yourself .Does your yearlong posting career reserve the right to insult Billy Corgan, then refuse to respond to someone that defends him?Let that sink in.

Now, I never fucking post some anti-noob type of shit, but you are a noob to the core and the very definition of a cupcake.i don't own any stock on this site.may I see your shares? no-oh really?so what was that you said about this being YOUR thread. This a GN'R board and I have been here a fucking while kiddo.you won't be able to control what i choose to post.if i see a thread of interest, i'll read it and post what the fuck I wish.

I was a senior in high when Gish came out. Were you even fucking born then you cretin? if so, you were damn sure still shitting your pants and cutting teeth.Don't post an attack and tell no one they can respond.if you want to do that, register a domain, make a message board, and just post all your uncannily intuitive musical insights.then, refuse to let anyone disagree.

    So fucking high school.

you STILL haven't resonded to my argument, but i have things to do, so unless you have an original thought, I'll just ignore you.

YOU'RE RESPONDING TO THE WRONG GUY, THX

  10. this will be killer. only thing that bugs me is imagining them overdubbing parts now.you don't spray paint the Mona Lisa, you know?

That's pretty minor considering the excitement of hearing Stones stuff fom my favorite era.

If Mick Taylor came in, I say it's high time Ron Wood move out of the way and bring Mick Back in on lead.

  11. Billy's voice just doesn't work for it.

Got to agree. Its a nice song though. Give me an instrumental version or someone else singing though. I think the music is fantastic but the voice kind of makes an amazing song into an "Ok" song.

His voice works fine for it. I don't know what you expect to hear... it's a Smashing Pumpkins track and he's the singer. :shrugs:

Billy Corgan is a solid vocalist, but more than that he wrote the damn song. What do you want, some American Idol hack butchering his baby?

    Damn.

  12. Waaaaaaaaay too many to list.... :tongue2:

I believe the sheer awesomeness of your list would rip a hole in the space time continuum.

at the risk of appearing to be a mod-suck-up, I wholeheartedly agree. I think Zint61's list would actually create a wormhole which would allow passage from this dimensional reality-tunnel to wherever the Dead pass their time between incarnations. It is our best chance at bringing my dream band together-Otis,Hendix, Jaco, and John Motherfucking Bonham!

  13. An end of the world "Fuck It" type album is what I'm hearing in my head. Black Bond starring in If the World Wasn't Enough.

Yep. Axl knows the score. I am pretty confident there will be a late 2012 release for cd 2. If we are incredibly lucky and the stars align correctly, there an outside chance for cd 2 in 2011, the cd3 in 2012.

Whatever the case, if Axl times it right and the popular interpretation of the end of the Mayan calender is accurate-which I personally doubt honestly, I don't see an apocalyptic end, I see an ascension of one segment of the human race to a higher plane and a falling away of the rest-then GN'R WILL provide the soundtrack to Armageddon down here in the Bunker.

  14. It is definitely my favorite track on the album. There is a practical concern though. It's pretty fucking hard to hit some of those notes, and after a 3 hour gig, you don't want to leave the venue remembering Axl struggling on this song. No disrespect, but Axl's vocals are fucking violent. It's a damn tough gig pulling those songs off nightly.

  15. It doesn't influence whether i will listen to it, but a great cover catches the eye, pretty basic marketing. I rarely go to record stores-they never have want I want and I'd rather order from Amazon than make the trip only to face inevitable disappointment. When I do venture to the store though the only way I'll even consider buying something I have not previewed or that doesn't come recommended by someone whose taste I respect is if the cover catches my eye first.

  16. Fake. Someone lazily took the original and overdubbed some synth fx. IF they were to redo the track-probably have several times over-they certainly wouldn't use the original track and just overdub synths because then they would have to pay royalties to Adler, Slash, Izzy and Duff for performance rights as well as what they are due for songwriting already.

  17. Better Man by Pearl Jam

Farewell and Goodnight by Smashing Pumpkins

    Mayonaise by Smashing Pumpkins

    Mayo.-my favorite Pumpkins song.

Anyone heard the 2 new tracks? awesome stuff, free download on official site.
