  1. Commercially (which was the point of the thread) "new GN'R" are more successful than modern day Iron Maiden, without a doubt.

CD outsold in it's first week, the last THREE maiden album releases, put together.

Live, GN'R play to approximately the same numbers, in the same markets, as Maiden.

    Facts are facts.

Uh, no. Not even close, as a matter of fact. When is the last time GN'R played a stadium show in South America, let alone sold it out? Or Europe for that matter? How about the last time they sold out 11 straight UK arena gigs? In the US this Summer Maiden had 1 gig with attendance below 50% and a vast majority above 80% with about a dozen shows sold out - can Guns do that? No.

You should get a job over at the Iron Maiden forum, because you know very little about GN'R's recent history, and you seem to know a bunch about Maidens.

GN'R toured SA as recently as 2010 and played a bunch of sold out shows, if my memory is correct, three of them were in stadiums. They sold out ALL of their UK shows in 2010 (they didn't play 11 shows), and sold out 10 European arena gigs in a row.

We get it dude, Maiden are your favourite band, you wont have a bad word said about them.

he has said bad things about maiden ask him about virtual XI :tongue2:

You quack like a freshwater duck! quack, quack, quack!

  2. DJ looks tiny as fuck. I have a seriously hard time believing he beat up that fan.

    What a rookie statement

How so? Just an observation. A small dude who doesn't seem to be in top physical condition, doesn't quite gel with his story about him beating up some big dude. Then again I think he said Axl was fighting with him too, so maybe I was off base. The Axl thing isn't a big deal, we already knew he beat up a fan before why not again?

Dont be a blind aquatic cave-dwelling European salamander all your life mate, get with the program, no ones going to hold your hand.

There's always a caveat with someone who has a bias.

That album was built up by the media and public to a mythical status, because GN'R are a big deal, people were interested in it, obviously. GN'R are a far more successful band; they've sold more records, had far more chart success than Iron Maiden, despite releasing a lot less records and been on album hiatus for 17 years.

Please put this into context for us...

Iron Maiden have 6.8 million fans on FB.

    GN'R have 17 million.

iron maiden is a heavy metal band. metal is not the most appealing music to everyone. where as gnr has wayyyyyy more oppurtunity to have a crossover appeal from classic rock fans, hard rock fans, metal fans, pop fans, hip hop fans, country fans etc.

it is similar to metallica you put on fight fire with fire or disposable heroes to some country or pop fan they will instantly hate it. put on nothing else matters, mama said a much better chance they would like it.

Yeah I know, did you miss point the point of the thread? Some loonies were claiming that Maiden are a far more successful band, that just isn't true.

i know what the point of the thread is/was it has gone way of course from where it began. it depends on what you see as a success. if it is first week album sales gnr will win, due to their crossover appeal.

if it a total body of work of a bands discography i will take maiden due to the amount they have put out in the last 30 years as a band

You keep moving the goal posts... are you talking about sales figures or musical quality now? One is fact based, one is opinion based and subjective.

  6. In terms of a worldwide phenomenon, Iron Maiden are the biggest band in the world right now. You can argue with me all you want but the facts stand; there is nothing Iron Maiden can't do right now. 6 years ago it would've been absolutely unthinkable for any band to tour out of a 757 as Maiden do on their "Around the World" legs of a tour - let alone with a member of the band piloting the aircraft. In Europe, South America, and Asia, Maiden are guaranteed to sell out any venue of any size. In North America, they're well on their way to achieving that as well - many shows on this Summer's North American tour were sold out and it was their most extensive North American tour since 1992 at that. There is nowhere Maiden can't play (Within reason of course) - they were the first metal band to play India, and have since visited the UAE, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, and every country in South America as well (And they're working on China!). Not to mention The Final Frontier, which went to number one in 35 countries as well - how many bands can put that on their resume 35 years into their career? It amazes me that they've bounced back from total obscurity less than 15 years ago to where they are now - even the early tours after Bruce and Adrian rejoined in 1999 were only moderate successes. I got into Maiden right at the turning point, when they really started to build up their fanbase again so for me its been a really amazing ride these past 7 years, just seeing things get bigger and bigger every tour.

biggest band in the world is metallica

U2 is bigger than metallica. Metallica would not even try a Stadium tour in America. AC/DC did a couple of years ago in select markets only and they did not sell out those venues.

U2 also do far less US tours than Metallica or Maiden also, which is why they can play stadiums - more demand. U2 has done 5 US tours in the past 20 years, all 30 or less shows. Metallica has done 9 US tours in 20 years, many of which had much more than 30 shows. Maiden has done 12 US tours since, usually with about 30 shows.

Dude, Im not trying to shit on Maiden or your love for that band. But what you do mean when you say U2 has done 30 shows a tour? I know U2 have done mor than 30 shows per US tour. U2 do not tour less than any other major band. You are taking your love for maiden and usng it to distorts realties about U2 in particular. U2 are a stadium band wherever they play and sell out. No other band on earth does that period. there is no arguement at all. Maiden is a B action movie at best. And more importantly U2 has never broken up or suffered a line up hange. that is utterly amazing for may reasons.

To be honest, I'm much more interested to hear how you think GN'R and Maiden stack up against each other today, since that was the original point of this thread...

The Final Frontier sold 63,000 in it's first week of release in the US.

Chinese Democracy sold 261,000 in it's first week of release in the US.

AMAZING that some of you consider Maiden to be more "relevant" than GN'R. The sales figures speak for themselves.

One was announced 5 months before it's release.

One was built up by the media and public to a mythic status over a decade.

    Context is everything.

  8. First of all the Iron Maiden guys are still in their 50's.

I guess IM is more popular than GNR because they have all their original members ( I know there was another singer, but Bruce is better) and these guys are still putting out awesome cds.

I think GNR shows are just as amazing as IM's shows, but like I said, IM has been around longer than GNR and since Guns has gone through many member changes, IM has not lost their loyal fan base.

Iron Maiden has ONE origanal member.

  9. $87 for a signature? He certainly does not do much for me to change my opinion about him.

However good for the fans if they like paying that amount, even though I question the ethical meaning behind this idea.

    Ethical meaning! :nervous:

  10. Kanye West and Axl Rose. Clash of the gigantic egos.

Big difference though. Kanye releases alot of music and every time I saw hiim perform live he was on time.

    You are SO original!

I'm sorry, I must have missed the other 100 topics about the differences between Kanye West and Axl Rose. Still if I'm not the only one to have stated this, then the point I made remains valid.

    Slow too!

Let me turn your argument against you, you have to remain consequent when you're being sarcastic. It would have been more suitable to note: "Very bright too!", however that all boils down to how bright I perceive you to be :)

Are you crying right now? Or did you drop a big brown onion in your pants? Either way, you need a tissue!!

Notice the smiley in my post? ;)

These little back-and-forths amuse me quite a bit actually. The only tissue I might need is from wanking too hard.

    Fixed
