This really gets me excited about Heaven And Hell...the first of the '09 dates have been announced and they're in the studio right now...it's the reunion album I've always been waiting for.

Enjoy Heaven And Hell, I've seen them 6 times in the last year and a half, and they just get better every time.

ZZ TOP is coming. No favourites for me.

ZZ TOP (US)

Could a band be more legendary? We all remember ZZ Top as the band behind the multi-multi-million selling album "Eliminator" in 1983, featuring mega hits "Gimme All Your Lovin'" and "Sharp Dressed Man". But let's not forget that these are merely the tip of the iceberg. This trio has recorded no less than fourteen albums, each packed with unbelievably grooving music of the highest caliber: the bluesiest hard-rock possible, or the hard-rockiest blues possible - either description applies. And in their native US the band were big even in the 70s thanks to such hits as "La Grange" (1973) and "Tush" (1975) - songs that have since been proclaimed immortal by every European rock lover as well.

In 2009, ZZ Top celebrate their 40th anniversary, as always with the original line-up intact: Billy Gibbons (vocals/guitar), Dusty Hill (vocals/bass) and Frank Beard (drums). How many more bands can live up to that? And the world-famous beards on the faces of the former two gentlemen celebrate their 30th anniversary! To celebrate these events, the band will record their fifteenth album with producer Rick Rubin (Slayer, AC/DC, Johnny Cash et al.), and naturally attend SRF for the first time ever. This is definitely one of the most highly anticipated debuts in the festival's history - not to be missed!

So far it's an equally boring line-up as last year...just boring in a different way. And Springsteen is doing two shows with the E Street Band during the same days so there's not any chance I'll even consider going this year.

Some new bands presented:

FLOGGING MOLLY (US)

Celtic folk music and aggressive punk rock, do they mix? Flogging Molly from Los Angeles have certainly done it, with great success - their record sales so far amount to more than one and a half million copies. Flogging Molly were formed in 1997 by vocalist Dave King (previously best known from British hard rock act Fastway) and consist of seven members, armed with a multitude of acoustic instruments and marked Irish influences, not least as far as lyrics are concerned. There are more than a few similarities to The Pogues, which Flogging Molly themselves happily admit. Their fourth and most recent studio offering "Float" (2008) is also their most successful one by far, so this is your chance to get acquainted with an exciting band at their peak, at their only Swedish performance in 2009.

JON OLIVA'S PAIN (US)

Jon Oliva is arguably best known as the leader of heavy metal legends Savatage, and fans of that band will also rejoice over Jon Oliva's Pain. The latter act was formed in 2003 and have released three albums, the latest of which being "Global Warning" (2008). The music of Jon Oliva's Pain is, like that of Savatage, grandiose and often gloomy, but at the same time more melodic and presented more theatrically, in the veins of "old" Alice Cooper. A new album is on its way, and hopefully we'll get appetizers from that one as well as a Savatage-classic or two at SRF - the band's only concert in Sweden this year. TRACENINE (CAN)

Tracenine is a quartet from Cambridge, Canada - as opposed to the British university town - who have played together since 1999. During that time they have been touring extensively with the likes of Nazareth, Helix, Killer Dwarfs and Meredith Brooks, and today they are a highly regarded live act. Their debut album "Breaking Silence" has been compared to such bands as Metallica, Disturbed and Sevendust, and met with great enthusiasm by a steadily growing fan base on the American continent. The record will see a global release in January, so take this opportunity to discover a potential future major act in time for their debut on Swedish soil!

DEMON (UK)

These heroes from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal of the early 80s caused quite a stir at last fall's Sweden Rock Cruise, and met with even greater fanfare at their previous SRF visits in 2000 and 2003. Demon, with supreme vocalist Dave Hill constantly at the helm, unleashed their debut "Night of the Demon" in 1981 and have since released numerous more stellar albums, quite eclectic but always firmly rooted in classic British hard rock. Songs like "Sign of a Madman", "Night of the Demon", "The Plague" and - lest we forget - "Don't Break the Circle" have guaranteed Demon their place in history as one of NWoBHM's finest bands - a timeless legend to discover or redsicover.

KAMELOT (N)

Only the best bands have survived the downfall of power metal, and Kamelot from Tampa rank among the cream of the crop. So they have numerous and loyal fans among the visitors at SRF, where they played most recently in 2006. For those who don't know, Kamelot's sound is grandiose or even symphonic, and they have released eight studio albums so far, including modern classics like "Epica" (2003), "The Black Halo" (2005) and their newest effort "Ghost Opera" (2007). The main men of the band are guitarist and founder Thomas Youngblood and, since 1998, Norwegian singer Roy Khan (ex-Conception). One of the best song-writing teams in melodic metal, and one that only seems to improve with age - do not miss their only Swedish performance in 2009.

VOIVOD (CAN)

This is something doubly historical: Voivod's first visit to SRF and Sweden will also be their last. This Canadian ensemble, known to many as "the band Jason Newsted went to after Metallica", but who also since their debut in 1984 have become legendary to fans of both thrash- and alternative metal, have announced their intention to split up after the release of their twelfth studio album and the following tour. Voivod do not wish to continue without guitarist Denis "Piggy" L'Amour, who succumbed to cancer in 2005 and whose remaining recordings are the basis of the new album.

This June, the band's three surviving original members Snake (vocals), Blacky (bass) and Away (drums), plus guitarist Dan Mongrain take the stage at SRF: literally a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Voivod in Sweden.

THOR (CAN)

Thor, the band centered around front-man Jon Mikl Thor, debuted with "Keep the Dogs Away" in 1978, not to resurface again until 1983 and the EP "Unchained", followed by the LP "Only the Strong" in 1985. These three releases, with songs like "Thunder On the Tundra", "Let the Blood Run Red" and "Knock'em Down", are today heavy metal classics, and Mr. Thor himself somewhat legendary as a front-man. The prize-winning bodybuilder used to, among other things, break bricks over his head and burst hot-water bottles by blowing them up - an admittedly tough act to imitate. What tricks he has in store for the audience at SRF remains to be seen, but a spectacular show and plenty of genuine, old school-heavy metal is guaranteed.

IMPELLITTERI (US)

Sweden Rock now gets a visit from another true guitar hero - Chris Impellitteri. He has been branded one of the fastest guitarist's in the world, (Officially voted 2nd fastest guitarist in the world by "Guitar One" magazine; and "Guitar World" magazine recently listed Chris Impellitteri within their top 50 fastest guitarists of all time). In 1987 he made his self-titled debut, the year after followed by what became something of his break through. On this album singer Rob Rock had been temporarily replaced by Graham Bonnet. With Rock back in the ranks the band released "Grin And Bear It" in 1992 and Impellitteri has since released a number of albums such as "Crunch", "Pedal To The Metal", "System X" and "Faster Than The Speed Of Light". Today he again has singer Rob Rock fronting the band. James Pulli (Geezer Butler) is handling the bass and the drummer is Brandon Wild. Good news is that soon the band's new album "Wicked Maiden" will be released. The album is described as Impellitteri's metal masterpiece, an intense guitar driven metal album that will satisfy the appetite of any true metal fan. Check out his MySpace for tasters!

GRAND MAGUS (S)

Stockholm's very own Grand Magus previously played at SRF 2004, when they were still rather new to the crowd. Since then the band has grown considerably, and their latest album "Iron Will" became one of the great Swedish sensations of 2008, so this time it should be quite different! Grand Magus is a power trio that debuted in 2001, as always under the leadership of singer/guitarist Janne "JB" Christoffersson who is also recognized from Spiritual Beggars. The band's rootsy, grooving and doom-laden heavy metal has since been refined with each new release, leading to their well-deserved break with the aforementioned fourth album "Iron Will". If you're still unacquainted with Grand Magus: listen, discover, get stunned!

TWISTED SISTER TO SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL

Twisted Sister’s image, a mixture of glam rockers and drag queens, combined with the rebellious lyrics over thunderous metal riffs, struck a chord with virtually every young person in Sweden in 1984. The band’s third album “Stay Hungry” certainly sold millions world-wide, but nowhere were they bigger than in Sweden, where the album sold way over 100 000 copies. So when the band returned to the stage after more than fifteen years, there was no question that they would come to SRF 2003. With their live-show, of course.

This year, to coincide with the 25th Anniversary of the release of “Stay Hungry”, Twisted Sister will return to SRF – FOR THE LAST TIME IN THEIR COSTUMES. After this year, Dee Snider & Co will look like… a rock band, quite simply. Fair enough. Nevertheless, no one should refrain from taking this last farewell to a live-show that, without exaggeration, helped shaping an entire generation of Swedish youth. To celebrate the jubilee, “Stay Hungry” will be performed in its entirety – “I Wanna Rock” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” included, of course. And need we mention that this will be the band’s only Swedish performance this year?

Not a favourite, but they are coming.

KEBNEKAJSE TO SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL

Kebnekajse - named after Sweden's highest mountain - debuted in 1971, pioneering the concept of traditional folk music on electric instruments. Since they also sang in Swedish, they were generally considered a part of the progressive music movement in Sweden of the time, with the difference that Kebnekajse didn't think of themselves as a political band. Until 1978, the band released six albums before calling it a day. In 2002 Kenny Håkansson & co got back together mostly for fun, but now, in 2009, their eponymous comeback album is here (release date: February 25th) and their SRF debut is coming up. Sweden's hardest, most legendary troubadours are officially back!
