New Rose
So in 2006 I put up a thread to find out what album's MyGnR think belong in the all time top 100. The thread spanned 23 pages and had 334 replies. The rules were: * Every member gets to choose 5 albums that they think deserve to be on the Top 100 Albums of All Time list. * You can choose different albums from the same band, but you can't pick the same album from the same band twice or more. * The order of the list makes no difference. I.e if you have Zeppelin I as number one, it doesnt affect its position on the final list. * If the same user makes two or more posts, the other posts will be disqualified. Only the first post counts. * Compilations, i.e greatest hits albums or live albums do NOT count! * Chinese Democracy doesn't count. If its released before July20th, it does. * Once you've chosen your albums, you can't change them. * The competition ends July 20th when I will count all the votes and make the list. * Discussion is allowed, but please try not to go too off-topic. Anything Goes and UYI are for that.I thought you folks would like to see the list, so:1. Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction2. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon3. arnold layne
Its a good list. If we made a new one though, Chinese Democracy would probably make the cut even though it doesn't deserve it in my opinion.
Shuffle
That is one boring list... (of course, all lists suck).
SpUd_Jr
Yeah, it'd be cool to do this again. Lots of new members since the last one.Hopefully the list would be a little more varied this time.

LightningBolt
Yeah, most of those picks are so cliche, I'd definitely be in favor if the forum were to make another.

Everyone that likes Extreme Metal (not many here probably) love Pantera, as do most "metal heads" in general. I'm just surprised it wasn't Cowboys From Hell that made it on there. Meh, I guess I'm a bit surprised that a Guns N' Roses forum voted them on, as well.

Country and heavy metal are two genres I never particularly enjoyed as much.

Bob Dylan changed the entire paradigm of lyrics in music and the role of the singer, there's just no criticizing his role in the development of popular music. All of the "decent" artists you named adored him and their music could not have had the same platform were it not for Dylan's innovations. That doesn't mean you have to like him either, but claiming that he doesn't deserve to be considered a legend doesn't hold up at all. Extremely powerful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlTtLAEZ3AY The best thing Dylan did was contribute to the Big Lebowski soundtrack. The fact of the matter is, all lyrics that rely on their evocations and poetic qualities above their literal surface meanings stem from Dylan. There's probably almost nothing you listen to that doesn't have a calculable influence from Dylan in it. Also, any singer you may like who isn't "good" or proficient in the conventional way would not have had an audience before Dylan. Once again, I'm not saying you have to like him, but to deny his contributions is erroneous.
